This study was intended to identify the distribution and characteristics of plants such as native plants, rare plants, and endemic plants through a flora survey in Sangwangsan Mt. (644m), Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do, a group habitat of warm temperate forests in Korea, and use the data for the conservation of plant species diversity and the study of climate and distribution changes in warm-temperate forests. A total of 32 field surveys were conducted from 2018 to 2022. The survey identified 785 taxa, including 8 forms, 53 varieties, 16 subspecies, 708 species, 473 genera, and 132 families. The endangered wild plants designated by the Ministry of Environment included 6 taxa: Woodwardia japonica, Metanarthecium luteoviride, Bulbophyllum inconspicuum, Dendrobium moniliforme, Pelatantheria scolopendrifolia, and Cymbidium macrorhizon. Rare plants designated by the Korea Forest Service were identified as 26 taxa. The red list designated by the Korea National Arboretum was identified as 7 taxa, the red list designated by the Ministry of Environment was identified as 29 taxa, and endemic plants in Korea were identified as 17 taxa. Floristic target species in Korea were identified as 200 taxa, specifically 6 taxa of grade V, 13 taxa of grade IV, 73 taxa of grade III, 29 taxa of grade II, and 79 taxa of grade I. Naturalized plants were identified as 73 taxa, and invasive alien plants were identified as 6 taxa. Target plants adaptable to climate change in Korea were identified as 55 taxa, specifically 8 taxa of endemic plants, 46 taxa of southern plants, and 1 taxon of northern plants.
Altitude is a factor that plays an important role in the diversity, richness and composition of species. Recently, much attention has been paid to the distribution of butterflies and insects according to altitude. The purpose of this article is to propose a method to preserve and manage species efficiently by reviewing the distribution of butterflies according to different altitudes in Mt. Gyeryong National Park. This study found that the number of species and individuals decreased as the altitude increased, possibly due to the increased amount of shade caused by the crown density. When analyzing the factors influencing the distribution of species other than altitude, it was found that the slope, vegetative colonies and hydrosphere distance were correlated with the change in species distribution. As these species are closely related to food plants, it may save time and reduce the cost as well as allow an efficient evaluation of the bio-diversity if these species are selected as biological indicator species suitable for detecting the changes in the forest. It is judged to be a more efficient means of species preservation to accumulate and quantify the materials regarding environmental elements such as the climate, microclimate and food plants, as this would allow the butterfly distribution to be estimated.
The yellow poplar is an appropriate species for the age of low carbon green growth, because its absorption rates of ozone is greatly excellent, and also the absorption rates of carbon dioxide causing climate changes is very remarkable. The yellow poplar, which is a kind of rapid growth tree, shows a lack of performance as a structural member, however, it is suitable to use a variety of purposes like furniture materials, interior materials, plywood materials, and so on. In this study, the structural size skin-timbers were made by using the yellow poplar, and the compressive capacity was evaluated, also the numerical model was developed for the various uses. The rectangular shape skin-timber presented a good performance by showing 56.3% residual strength about the solid material. In case of the cylinder shape skin-timber showed a possibility to use diversely as a furniture material, as well as a structural uses, because almost 50% compressive capacity of material even though its residual area rates was 25%. Both rectangular shape and the cylinder shape represented that 'Brooming or end rolling' were the major failure mode, and partly splitting failure mode. The compressive capacity of the rectangular shape which residual area rates was large was higher than the cylinder shape, but it did not show statistical significance about the compressive capacity between them. Thus, it will be possible to use them mixed for a convenience of users. The result of the numerical analysis model was quite similar to actual test of the compressive capacity. Therefore, the yellow poplar can be utilized in the development of various uses by applying numerical analysis model about a variety of shapes and dimensions.
An approach method for the greenhouse gas inventory in land-use change and forestry in Korea based on the 1996 revised IPCC(Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) guideline was developed and carbon budget of the year 1998 in this sector was estimated using the developed method as follow. For the category of changes in forests and other woody biomass stocks, carbon removal from the atmosphere by growth was 11,911 thousands TC(tons of carbon), carbon emissions to the atmosphere by harvests was 824 thousands TC, and net carbon removals was, therefore, 11,087 thousands TC, Emissions from decay of biomass remained after conversion of forest land to other land uses was estimated to 82 thousands TC For the category of land-use change and management, carbon emissions in mineral soils from land-use change was 1,025 thousands TC, that from liming of agricultural soils was 32 thousands TC, and total emissions was, therefore, 1,057 thousands TC. In summary, the carbon budget of land-use change and forestry of the year 1988 was as follows; the removal of 11,911 thousands TC, the emissions of 1,963 thousands TC, and the net removal of 9,948 thousands TC which was 9.6% of the emissions of 103,601 thousands TC from energy sector of the same year.

Issues on climate change we are facing, such as global warming, are very important as it affects our lives directly. To overcome this, efforts to reduce greenhouse gases emissions (e.g., carbon dioxide) are necessary and these efforts should be based on our integrated understanding of carbon cycle. The purpose of this study is to examine the research trend on carbon cycle education and to suggest the value and direction of carbon cycle education for students who will be citizens of the future. We analyzed 52 carbon cycle education related studies collected from academic research databases (RISS, KCI, ERIC, Google Scholar, and others). As a result, we conclude that resources are still limited and more researches on verification and utilization of developed program, development of accurate and comprehensive tools for students' recognition and level assessment, developing educational model or teacher professional development, providing more appropriate curriculum resources, and the use of various topics or materials for carbon cycle education are necessary. Students' comprehensive understanding of the carbon cycle is important to actively react to the changes in the global environment. Therefore, to support such learning opportunities, resources that can be connected to students' daily experiences to improve students' understanding of carbon cycle and replace misconceptions based on the verification of existing programs should be provided in the classroom as well as the curriculum. In addition, sufficient exemplary cases in carbon cycle education including various materials and topics should be provided through professional development to support teachers teaching strategies with carbon cycle.

The coastal wave environment is a very important factor that directly affects the change of coastal topography, the habitat of marine life, and the design of offshore structures. In recent years, changes in the wave environment due to climate change are expected, and a trend analysis of the wave environment using available data sets is required. In this paper, significant wave heights which are measured at six ocean buoys (Deokjeokdo, Oeyeondo, Chibaldo, Marado, Pohang, Ullengdo) have been used to analyze long-term trend of normal waves. In advance, the outlier of measured data by Korea Meteorological Administration have been removed using Rosner test. And Pearson correlation analysis between the measured data and ECMWF reanalysis data has been conducted. As a results, correlation coefficient between two data were 0.849~0.938. Meanwhile, Mann-Kendall test has been used to analyze the long-term trend of normal waves. As a results, it was found that there were no trend at Deokjeokdo, Oeyeondo and Chibaldo. However, Marado, Pohang and Ullengdo showed an increasing tendency.

Multitemporal MODIS vegetation index (VI) data are widely used in vegetation monitoring research into environmental and climate change, since they provide a profile of vegetation activity. However, MODIS data inevitably contain disturbances caused by the presence of clouds, atmospheric variability, and instrument problems, which impede the analysis of the NDVI time series data and limit its application utility. For this reason, preprocessing to reduce the noise and reconstruct high-quality temporal data streams is required for VI analysis. In this study, a data reconstruction method for MODIS NDVI is proposed to restore bad or missing data based on the statistical properties of the oscillations in the NDVI temporal dynamics. The first derivatives enable us to examine the monotonic properties of a function in the data stream and to detect anomalous changes, such as sudden spikes and drops. In this approach, only noisy data are corrected, while the other data are left intact to preserve the detailed temporal dynamics for further VI analysis. The proposed method was successfully tested and evaluated with simulated data and NDVI time series data covering Baekdu Mountain, located in the northern part of North Korea, over the period of interest from 2006 to 2012. The results show that it can be effectively employed as a preprocessing method for data reconstruction in MODIS NDVI analysis.
Background: As the habitat changes in Korea due to climate change, the emergence of disease-mediated vectors is increasing rapidly. Thus for the surveillance of mosquito- and chigger mite-borne disease, their seasonal prevalence and species composition were investigated at seven locations in Daegu, Gunwi and Sangju. Methods: Mosquitoes were collected twice every month from five collection sites using a black light and BG sentinel traps in Daegu and Gunwi from April through November. Chigger mites were investigated twice per month from wild rodents caught with Sherman live traps in Gunwi and Sangju from April through May and September through November. Results: A total of 2,361 female mosquitoes were collected. Cowshed (626 individuals, Trap index (TI) 44.7) and Kyungpook National University campus (846 individuals, TI 60.4) in Daegu had the highest number of mosquitoes in the black light and BG sentinel trap, respectively. The mosquitoes were collected more by BG sentinel trap than the black light trap. Nine mosquito species were trapped, and the Culex pipiens complex was the most commonly mosquito (1,397 individuals, 59.2%), followed by Anopheles sinensis (554 individuals, 23.5%). Anopheles sinensis (531 individuals, 51.9%) and Culex pipiens complex (1,142 individuals, 85.4%) were the most mosquitoes from black light and BG sentinel trap, respectively. In terms of seasonal prevalence, the highest abundance was in July, with 824 individuals collected. In chigger mites, eighty-one wild rodents of five species that are hosts of chigger mites were collected; among them, 53 and 25 individuals of Apodemus agrarius and Crocidura suaveolens, respectively were trapped. Leptotrombidium pallidum was a dominant species, with 2,467 individuals collected (67.8%). Conclusions: The mosquito was the dominant species in Culex pipiens complex and the highest in July and August. Apodemus agrarius was most abundant in wild rats and Leptotrombidium pallidum was dominant in the collected chigger mites.

Recently, the event of slope failure has been occurring frequently due to rapid climate changes and broad development of infrastructures, and the research for establishment of monitoring and prevention system has been an attentive issue. The major influence factors of slope failure mechanism can be considered moisture and temperature in soil, and the slope failure can be monitored and predicted through the trend of moisture-temperature change. Therefore, the combined sensing technology for the continuous measurement of moisture-temperature with different soil depths is needed for the slope monitoring system. The various independent sensors for each item (i.e. temperature and moisture respectively) have been developed, however, the research for development of combined sensing system has been hardly carried out. In this study, the high-fidelity sensor combing temperature-moisture measurement by using the minimized current consuming temperature circuit and the microwave emission moisture sensor is developed and applied on the slope failure monitoring system. The feasibility of developed monitoring system is verified by various experimental approaches such as standard performance test, mockup test and long-term field test. As a result, the developed temperature-moisture combined measurement system is verified to be measuring and monitoring the temperature and moisture in soil accurately.

This study was performed to understand wood durability to climate deterioration of planted Indonesian wood specie such as Albizia, Gmelina, Mangium and Mindi. Wood samples were exposed to indoor and outdoor condition. $L^*a^*b^*$ and Color changes (${\Delta}E*ab$) were determined by a spectrophotometer. As a result, color of all samples was changed more markedly by ultraviolet radiation. In indoor test with UV, brightness of wood specimens from four species was not changed and all samples were changed into more reddish and yellowish. In accelerated weathering test, all samples were bleached and changed into more greenish and blueish. In outdoor test, brightness of wood specimens decreased in Albizia and Gmelina and increased in Mangium and Mindi. All wood specimens in outdoor test were changed into more greenish and blueish. Albizia and Gmleina woods showed greater color change than those of Mangium and Mindi. Especially, color change of wood samples might be influenced greatly by moisture. In conclusion, wood color changed into more clearly by UV radiation. Therefore, exposing woods to UV radiation could be one of reasonable methods to improve wood quality on visual characteristic.
