  • This paper is relative to the electroless deposition of nickel or copper films on polyimide and polytetrafluoroethylene substrates. First, it is presented an original approach of the electroless process which consists in grafting nitrogenated functionalities on the polymer surfaces via plasma or VUV-assisted treatments operating in a nitrogen-based atmosphere ($NH_3$, $N_2$), and then in catalysing the grafted surfaces in an aqueous tin-free, Pd(+2)-based solution. Adhesion of the Pd(+2) catalytic species on polymer surfaces is explained by the formation of strong covalent bonds between these species and the grafted nitrogenated groups. Second, it is show how a fragmentation test performed in conjunction with electrical measurements can be used to characterize the practical adhesion of the electroless coatings deposited on flexible polymer substrates, and to evidence the influence of some experimental parameters (plasma treatment time and nature of the gas phase).

  • This article deals with the reconstruction of an impact force. This requires to take measurements from the impacted structures and then to deconvolve those signals from the impulse response function. More precisely, the purpose of the work described here is to analyse the method of deconvolution and the problems that it implies. Thus, it is highlighted that the associated deconvolution problem depends on the location of the measurement points: it is possible or not to reconstruct the force of impact in function of the location of this point. Then, the role of the antiresonances is linked up with this problem. The singular value decomposition is used to understand these difficulties. Numerical predictions are compared and validated with experiments.

  • This paper deals with the asymptotic analysis of Mohr-Coulomb and Drucker-Prager soft thin layers bonded with elastic solids. In the first part, a mathematical analysis shows how to obtain an interface law that replaces mechanically and geometrically the thin layer. This law is strongly non-linear and couples microscopic and macroscopic scales. In the second part of the paper, the microscopic terms are quantified numerically, and it is shown that they can be neglected.

  • Objective: We describe the case of an 84-year-old man with a midbrain infarction causing pupil sparing oculomotor nerve palsy, with ipsilateral cerebellar ataxia diagnosed as Claude's syndrome. Methods: The patient was treated with Korean medicine, including herbal medicine, acupuncture, and electro-acupuncture, during 45 days of hospitalization. Improvements in the patient's symptoms and changes in ptosis were evaluated using the Korean version of the Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA). Results: After 45 days of treatment with the Korean medicine, the patient's symptoms, including ataxia and ptosis, improved. Conclusions: This study suggests that the treatment with Korean medicine was effective in aiding the patient's recovery.

  • Claude Debussy's is a solo piano piece written in 1894. However, for unknown reasons, the entire piece was not published until 1977, despite clear evidence that Debussy intended to publish it during his lifetime. Interestingly, the second movement of the three pieces comprised in the work was published independently in February 1896 through the Parisian periodical Le Grand Journal. Partly because the work was recently published, it remains relatively more unknown to pianists and music lovers than other piano solo pieces by Debussy. Thus, this article addresses in detail the compositional background of this work, focusing on why the work was not published during Debussy's lifetime. Furthermore, by analyzing this piece in detail, this article intends to discuss the stylistic characteristics of the work regarding its melody, phrase structure, harmony, and form. This survey, which would help understand the musical style embodied in this piece, aims to contribute to improving the awareness of the work.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to develop an AI-based CPX (Clinical Performance Examination) practicing chatbot for Korean medicine education, implementing automated quantitative scoring and qualitative feedback systems to enhance individualized learning experiences. Methods: Building upon a previously developed CPX practicing chatbot, we integrated a quantitative scoring system and a qualitative text feedback system using Large Language Models (LLMs). Scoring prompts and feedback prompts were designed based on standardized CPX scenarios. We compared the performance of OpenAI's GPT-4 and Anthropic's Claude-3.5-Sonnet models in terms of scoring accuracy, feedback quality, consistency, latency, and fluency. Three sample chat histories representing varying levels of student performance were created for evaluation. Results: Claude-3.5-Sonnet demonstrated perfect accuracy in quantitative scoring across all samples and faster execution times (average 43.2 seconds) compared to GPT-4. In qualitative feedback generation, GPT-4 provided more specific and actionable feedback, while Claude-3.5-Sonnet produced more natural and supportive language. By combining the strengths of both models, we implemented an optimized system that first uses GPT-4 for detailed feedback generation and then refines the language with Claude-3.5-Sonnet, resulting in accurate scoring and high-quality feedback. Conclusions: The study successfully developed an LLM-based CPX practicing chatbot that offers automated scoring and individualized feedback for Korean medicine education. The optimized system enhances the learning experience by providing accurate assessments and specific, supportive feedback, addressing limitations in current CPX education practices and resource constraints.

  • RNA helicases DDX5 and DDX17 are multitasking proteins that regulate gene expression in different biological contexts through diverse activities. Special attention has long been paid to their function as coregulators of transcription factors, providing insight about their functional association with a number of chromatin modifiers and remodelers. However, to date, the variety of described mechanisms has made it difficult to understand precisely how these proteins work at the molecular level, and the contribution of their ATPase domain to these mechanisms remains unclear as well. In light of their association with long noncoding RNAs that are key epigenetic regulators, an emerging view is that DDX5 and DDX17 may act through modulating the activity of various ribonucleoprotein complexes that could ensure their targeting to specific chromatin loci. This review will comprehensively describe the current knowledge on these different mechanisms. We will also discuss the potential roles of DDX5 and DDX17 on the 3D chromatin organization and how these could impact gene expression at the transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels.
