  • The literature has reported that hierarchical classification methods generally outperform the flat classification methods for a multi-class document classification problem. Unlike the literature that has constructed a class hierarchy, this paper evaluates the performance of hierarchical and flat classification methods under a situation where the class hierarchy is predefined. We conducted numerical evaluations for two data sets; research papers on climate change adaptation technologies in water sector and 20NewsGroup open data set. The evaluation results show that the hierarchical classification method outperforms the flat classification methods under a certain condition, which differs from the literature. The performance of hierarchical classification method over flat classification method depends on class similarities at levels in the class structure. More importantly, the hierarchical classification method works better when the upper level similarity is less that the lower level similarity.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to provide background information on nursing interventions to further enhance the quality of nursing practice and related professions, based on those performed for stroke patients. Methods: The analysis was performed in light of 84 researches papers on nursing intervention published between 1990 and 2010, and based on NIC(Nursing Interventions Classification) and NOC(Nursing Outcomes Classification). Results: 1. The quasi-experimental design was used as the most primary form of research design across 69 papers that constitute 82% of the total. 2. The number of nursing intervention methods identified throughout 84 research papers was 144. Based on the NIC that 90(62.5%) of those interventions fell into the physiological basic domain while 53(36.8%) belonged to the behavioral domain. 2) Interventions on activity and exercise management, physical comfort promotion, patient education conducted by class level of NIC were 40(27.78%), 34(23.61%), and 31(21.53%) respectively. 3) Outcomes of mobility, psychological well-being, energy maintenance, health & life quality measured by class of NOC among 317 dependent variables 79(24.92%), 64(20.19%), and 63(19.87%) respectively. Conclusion: Most interventions were classified as belonging to few particular domain types, which triggers needs for the development and application of multidisciplinary intervention methods through a more collective approach.

  • Background: Although the zygomatic arch is an important structure determining facial prominence and width, no consensus exists regarding the classification of isolated zygomatic arch fractures, and the literature on this topic is scarce. To date, five papers have subdivided zygomatic arch fractures; however, only one of those proposed classifications includes the injury vector, although the injury vector is one of the most important factors to consider in fracture cases. Furthermore, the only classification that does include the injury vector is too complicated to be suitable for daily practice. In addition, the existing classifications are clinically limited because they do not consider greenstick fractures, nondisplaced fractures, or coronoid impingement. In the present study, we present a rearrangement of the previously published classifications and propose a modified classification of isolated zygomatic arch fractures that maximizes the advantages and overcomes the disadvantages of previous classification systems. Methods: The classification criteria for isolated zygomatic arch fractures described in five previous studies were analyzed, rearranged, and supplemented to generate a modified classification. The medical records, radiographs, and facial bone computed tomography findings of 134 patients with isolated zygomatic arch fractures who visited our hospital between January 2010 and December 2019 were also retrospectively analyzed. Results: We analyzed major classification criteria (displacement, the force vector of the injury, V-shaped fracture, and coronoid impingement) for isolated zygomatic arch fracture from the five previous studies and developed a modified classification by subdividing zygomatic arch fractures. We applied the modified classification to cases of isolated zygomatic arch fracture at our hospital. The surgery rate and injury severity differed significantly from fracture types I to VI. Conclusion: Using our modified classification, we could determine that both the injury force and the injury vector meaningfully influenced the surgery rate and the severity of the injuries.

  • Whereas a vast amount of new information on bioinformatics is made available to the public through patents, only a small set of patents are cited in academic papers. A detailed analysis of registered bioinformatics patents, using the existing patent search system, can provide valuable information links between science and technology. However, it is extremely difficult to select keywords to capture bioinformatics patents, reflecting the convergence of several underlying technologies. No single word or even several words are sufficient to identify such patents. The analysis of patent subclasses can provide valuable information. In this paper, I did a preliminary study of the current status of bioinformatics patents and their International Patent Classification (IPC) groups registered in the Korea Intellectual Property Rights Information Service (KIPRIS) database.

  • Abstract MOCIE(Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy) handles 6 Projects for Intelligent Robot, whose budget is around 40 Million dollars per year. In this paper we have tried to analyze the state of robot technology of the projects. Each sub-projects has been divided according to the technological classification. Two major projects of Next Generation Growth Engine and 21C Frontier show different state each other. The former is focused on the product while the latter on the technology. Output of 21C Frontier should be linked to the Next Generation Growth Engine, otherwise, it will fail to advance. The project management handles only the quantitative performance such as business results, number of prototype, and number of patents and papers. Technological Capability is essential and it should be managed. This paper proposes efficient classification of robot technology and technology index.
