Reading Korean Classical Narrative in Digital Era (디지털 시대의 고전 서사 읽기)

  • This Study aims to research how we read Korean classical narrative in the digital era and the culture digital made. The meaning of reading Korean classical narrative in digital culture can be divided in four category; first, reading the old narrative text that made and enjoyed a long time ago in digital era, second, reading the old narrative text that made in the old times not as th book but by the media environment that the digital technology made up, third, reading the extended and modified media text by the digital technology from the original old narrative text, fourth, reading the text by the digital technology seeking for the original narrative text as archetype. And it is inspected that the characteristic of the digital era and how to read the four type of Korean classical narrative through the example. So we can consider about the characteristic of enjoying Korean classical narrative and method of reading the diversified Korean classical narrative by the digital. Finally, it is conclusion that we must think over the original text of Korean classical narrative and adhere classicality. And we learned we should research more abundant Korean classical narrative text.

  • The essay explores the narrative structure of the classical Chinese feature animation, (a.k.a. Da Nao Tian Gong, 1964). The film is presented with a modular structure which is quite unique compared with the storytelling in feature animated films from other cultures, but could be connected with the tradition narrative structure in Chinese Zhanghui style novels in Ming and Qing Dynasty. By relating the original text of the story, the 16th century novel Journey to the West (a.k.a. Xi You Ji), with the film , the essay addresses the question of how the narrative tradition in Chinese classical literature influenced the Uproar in Heave for its segment narrative structure, character driven storytelling strategy and mirrored repetitive 2 plot lines.   • This paper investigates how narrative folk songs have been transmitted and enjoyed through literature data and field research, and discusses their educational significance. Narrative folk songs have changed from songs that were enjoyed by common women to songs enjoyed by upper class men according to the times. They have ranged from tragic songs lamenting hardships to comic songs that relieve oppression, depending on the performance situation. Moreover, narrative folk songs have been enjoyed through media transmission beyond traditional custom. Narrative folk songs have not been enjoyed in one fixed way, but rather in various ways depending on the situation, so they have functioned to enable common women, who are their main singers, to share emotions, communicate, and maintain their community. Therefore, in literature education, narrative folk songs can be used as very appropriate materials for learners to reflect on themselves, communicate with others and contribute to desirable community life. By experiencing the various ways of enjoying narrative folk songs, learners will be able to grow into subjects who actively solve their own problems and those of their communities.

  • The development of digital technology constructs meaning through the narrative by digitalized story. Including mobile whole aspect movie, visual contents have the narrative structure and signification based on the digital technology. This study planned to explore the possibility that mobile movie can expand the classical narrative structure and bring up the method of signification. For this purpose, this paper proved the process to cohere narrative through redundancy and a double across of space-time structure according to the principle of causality in mobile movies such as and . According to the findings, mobile movies appeared to construct a consolidated structure through cohesion of meaning and to move the space-time doubly across at a subjective point of view of the characters for continuity of story. Such a result means the narrative structure and the method of signification of mobile movie are modifying or expanding the unique formation of classical films in accordance with mobile devices as digital media.

  • There are different variations in folktales. Sometimes folkltales are combined with another folktales. This is probably done to make it an object-oriented narrative in which an epic attempt is made to strengthen an issue that was not resolved earlier, or a context that was not completed. The wood cutter and the heavenly maiden and Snail bride, are commonly noted for their gender relationship. These tales represent issue of continuing relationships between men and women. Particulary, how in the process of doing so, they succumb to their desires. This striving for lasting relationships does not end happily because "the man" in each case was immature and not able to think clearly. Other folktales were combined with these tales to resolve this problem. The man was transformed into a mature person and the wrongdoer's excessive greed was punished. The narrative of the folktales was changed to bring out the epic of growth, or the epic of punishment. This can be understood through the concept of narrative scheme. Folktale combinations in narrative schemes can be used effectively in narrative education.

  • In the [Samguk sagi], is the origin story of , a Pansori novel from the late Joseon period. is derived from an Indian folktale. This article examines the narrative changes from the Indian folktale. Through this, I attempt to examine how the short fable developed into a fascinating story with numerous variants like . The five kinds of stories that I have observed all indicate the development of a common narrative. They also have a common character: terrestrial animals, deputy, and aquatic animals. However, in the original story, the more the character is brought up, the greater the persuasiveness of the action. In addition, the scale of the conflict expands due to the reorganization of the incident. Moreover, the theme of the narrative has diversified by utilizing the space as a contrast. Discussions reveal that a single story or storyteller does not create a fascinating story. The implication being that several narratives and numerous people together make the narrative changes.

  • In this paper, we present that Virtual Reality (VR) is a type of media that has attracted interest in storytelling and media utilization. VR was first discussed as a specific narrative medium with traditional story medium. Via this discussion, The innate difference of VR is that the role of the media users in which the narrative is communicated were active in the development of the narrative unlike that of most classical narrative media. We also discussed specific features related to VR based on the theories of traditional literary criticism, movie reviews, and plays. Through these discussions, we aruged two directions of VR storytelling production as an narrative medium, its specificity, and its expressiveness for VR producers. First, story processing and characters can be introduced as part of continuing a new narrative by altering the interaction history that appears in VR stories to user interest ratings. Second, VR interaction responds intuitively to the idea that it represents a trajectory across the story surface of all possible interactions. More specific theories and controvercials are discussed.

  • This study attempted literary therapy approach to establish a healthy identity of Korean married immigrant women by using . The research suggests the difficulties of forming a healthy identity in the process of adaptation of Korean marriage imm6igrants to international marriage, and suggests a literary therapeutic alternative using the narrative structure of Ondal tales. In this study, we used the proven narrative, classical literature, to help the marriage migrant women to develop healthy self - narration, and furthermore, the possibility of reestablishing a healthy identity is centered on their human relations. The research suggests that self-narratives can provide a confidence that a happy life can be managed by providing a literary therapeutic alternative to establish a healthy identity. Through this study, it was positively pointed out that married immigrant women can utilize classical literature in their programs for establishing a healthy identity and that they can have an expected effect on their understanding of Korean culture and Korean language ability.

  • The purpose of this paper is to explain the operation and meaning of the narrative, which is one of the main principles for the contents construction, especially focusing on the concepts 'difference' and 'desire'. The classical aesthetic taught us that the differences between diverse characters and reality models are the effective strategy for the reading the story. But this paper focuses on the structural difference of the event (story) and performance (discourse) of narrative, which are regarded as the basic condition of narrative. This difference is to describe in terms of the media theory and psychoanalysis. This paper also seeks to interpret the recent korean film to exemplify that the creation of difference for the fulfillment of desire is the basic element of the narrative constitution.

  • The branded contents include various advertisements showing brand storytelling. A new mobile application service market for food delivery uses branded contents to become familiar with consumer in the beginning and built unique brand image in comparison with a rival company in the time of elaboration. This study analyzed the narrative type and structure of brand storytelling in branded contents of the three representative applications, 'Baedal Tong', 'The ethnic of Baedal', and 'Yogiyo'. Still a few study has researched the narrative type and structure of brand storytelling though different effects as narrative type. This paper divided four types of brand storytelling as the roll of brand through typology of Northrop Frye, romance, comedy, tragedy, and irony & satire. And it analyzed the narrative type and structure of branded contents of the three applications using these types and researched strategy in each time. The various narrative types beyond classical romance type are effective for brand positioning though market enter moment. This study will be helpful for the research about narrative strategy of branded contents.
