A Study on the Database Structure for Utilizing Classical Literature Knowledge (고문헌 지식활용을 위한 DB구조에 관한 고찰)

  • The purpose of this research is to build a database structure that can be useful for evidence-based medical practices by constructing the knowledge related to oriental medicine in the classical literature knowledge in a form that can utilize new forms of information technology. As a method, "database" is used as a keyword to search published studies in the field of oriental medicine, research is conducted on classic literature knowledge, and studies describing the contents of the data structure are found and analyzed. In conclusion, the original text DB for the preservation of the original texts and the presentation of the supporting texts should include 'Contents Text', 'Tree Structure', 'Herbal Structure', 'Medicine Manufacture', and 'Disease Structure' tables. In order to search, calculate, and automatically extract expressions written in the original text of the old literature, the tool DB should include 'Unit List', 'Capacity Notation List', 'CUI', 'LUI', and 'SUI' tables. In addition, In order to manage integrated knowledge such as herbal, medicine, acupuncture, disease, and literature, and to implement a search function such as comparison of similarity of control composition, the knowledge DB must contain 'dose-controlled medicine name', 'dose-controlled medicine composition', 'relational knowledge', 'knowledge structure', and 'computational knowledge' tables.

  • The database for the oriental medicine had been existed in documentation in past times and it has been developed to the database type for random accesses in the information society. However, the aspects of the database are not so diversified and the database for the bio herbal material exists in widened type dictionary style. It is a situation that the database which handles the in-depth raw herbal medicines is not sufficient in its quantity and quality. Korean wild grape is a deciduous plant categorized into the Vitaceae and it was found experimentally that it has various medical effects. It is one of the medical materials with higher potentiality of academic study and commercialization recently because it has a bigger possibility to be applied into diverse industrial fields including the medical product for health, food and beauty. We constituted the cooperative system among the Muju cluster business group for Korean mountain wild grapes, Physiology Laboratory in Kyung Hee University Oriental Medicine and Medical Classics Laboratory in Kyung Hee University Oriental Medicine with a view to focusing on such potentiality and a database for Korean wild grapes was made a touchstone for establishing the in-depth database for the single bio medical materials. First of all, the literatures based on the North East Asia in ancient times had been categorized into the classical literature (Korean literature published by government organization, Korean classical literature, Chinese classical literature and classical literature fro Korean and Chinese oriental medicine) and modern literature (Modern literature for oriental medicine, modern literature for domestic and foreign herbal medicine) to cover the eastern and western research records and writings related to Korean wild grapes and the text-mining work has been performed through the cooperation system with the Medical Classics Laboratory in Kyung Hee University Oriental Medicine. First of all, the data for the experiment and theory for Korean wild grape were collected for the Medline database controlled by the Parliament Library of USA to arrange the domestic and foreign theses with topic for Korean wild grapes and the network hyperlink function and down load function were mounted for self-thesis searching function and active view based on the collected data. The thesis searching function provides various auxiliary functions and the searching is available according to the diverse searching/queries such as the name of sub species of Korean wild grape, the logical intersection index for the active ingredients, efficacy and elements. It was constituted for the researchers who design the Korean wild grape study to design of easier experiment. In addition, the data related to the patents for Korean wild grape which were collected from European Patent Office in response to the commercialization possibility and the system available for searching and view was established in the same viewpoint. Perl was used for the query programming and MS-SQL for database establishment and management in the designing of this database. An Extended Dynamic Schema for Storing Semi-structured Data

  • Recently, database technologies have been used commonly. But, ordinary technologies aren't suitable to construct a complicated database such as a classical literature database or an archaeological relic's database. Because this kinds of data are semi-structured data that doesn't have regular structures, database schema can't be defined before databases. We have proposed DREAM model for semi-structured databases. In this model, a database consists of five elements and the model has operations similar to operation of set theory. And further we have introduced dynamic schema "shape" showing structure of each element. We have already realized a prototype of DBMS adopting DREAM model (DREAM DBMS) and constructing function of shapes. However, shape is imperfect to describe database structures because it can't explain nested structures of elements. In this paper, we will profuse a "shape graph"that is dynamic schema showing database structures more exactly and extend the DREAM DBMS. Further we will evaluate the performance of constructing function of shapes and shape graphs.

Performance of tuned mass dampers against near-field earthquakes

  • Passive tuned mass dampers (TMDs) efficiently suppress vibrations induced by quasi-stationary dynamic inputs, such as winds, sea waves or traffic loads, but may prove of little use against pulse-like excitations, such as near-field (NF) ground motions. The extent of such impairment is however controversial, partly due to the different evaluation criteria adopted within the literature, partly to the limited number of seismic records used in most investigations. In this study, three classical techniques and two new variants for designing a TMD on an SDOF structure are tested under 338 NF records from the PEER NGA database, including 156 records with forward-directivity features. Percentile response reduction spectra are introduced to statistically assess TMD performance, and TMD robustness is verified through Monte Carlo simulations. The methodology is extended to a variety of MDOF bending-type and shear-type frames, and simulated on a case study building structure recently constructed in Central Italy.Results offer an interesting insight into the performance of TMDs against NF earthquakes, ultimately showing that, if properly designed and sufficiently massive, TMDs are effective and robust even in the face of pulse-like ground motions. The two newly proposed design techniques are shown to generally outperform the classical ones.

A Study on the printing houses and the printers of Print-Edited Classical Novels (활자본 고전소설의 인쇄소와 인쇄인)

  • This study aimed to survey the basic research on the printing houses and the printers of Print-Edited Classical Novels. To this end, I looked at the copyright papers of Print-Edited Classical Novels. Followings had been found as the result of this study. First, there were 67 printing houses and the Print-Edited Classical Novels were printed 1,360 times. The most of printing houses were located in Seoul, and a few big printing houses took the lead of in Print-Edited Classical Novel printings. Second, there were 83 printers who were identified by copyright papers. Most of printers were representatives of printing houses or person in charge of printings. And some printers who were high ranked in printings tended to change jobs within the same field.

Discussion on Classical Text-based Evidence in Guidelines for the Traditional Chinese Medical Treatment of COVID-19 (COVID-19의 중의(中醫) 진료방안에 반영된 문헌 근거에 대한 고찰)

  • Objectives : This study reviews whether the traditional medical thought process reflected in the Traditional Chinese Medical Treatment Plan for COVID-19 is based on existing classical texts, and examine concerns over the quality of evidence that the plan is based on. Methods : First, terminology and basic formulas composing the compound formulas in the COVID-19 TCM Treatment Plan were collected. Next, their usage in existing classical texts were searched in the medical classics database. Results : Infectious diseases similar to COVID-19 were understood as external disease due to Six Qi in the texts. Basic formulas used for treatment were those applied in Shanghan and Wenbing, among which cases where such formulas were applied in infectious diseases could be found in the classics. Conclusions : The level of evidence of the Treatment Plan suggested by various specialists could be evaluated as insufficient if we consider the literature. However, if application of such a plan could be supported institutionally, it could become a starting point for evidence generation.

Hybrid Fuzzy Adaptive Control of LEGO Robots

  • The main drawback of “classical”fuzzy systems is the inability to design and maintain their database. To overcome this disadvantage many types of extensions adding the adaptivity property to those systems were designed. This paper deals with one of them a new hybrid adaptation structure, called gradient-incremental adaptive fuzzy controller connecting gradient-descent methods with the so-called self-organizing fuzzy logic controller designed by Procyk and Mamdani. The aim is to incorporate the advantages of both Principles. This controller was implemented and tested on the system of LEGO robots. The results and comparison to a ‘classical’(non-adaptive) fuzzy controller designed by a human operator are also shown here.

  • This paper aims to present some ideas for implementation of Uncertain Relational Databases (URD) which are extensions of classical relational databases. Our system firstly is based on possibility distribution and probability theory to represent and manipulate fuzzy and probabilistic information, secondly adopts flexible mechanisms that allow the management of uncertain data through the resources provided by both available relational database management systems and front-end interfaces, and lastly chooses dynamic SQL to enhance versatility and adjustability of systems.

Study on Costumes of Greek Mythology Gods in Films (영화에 나타난 그리스 신화의 신들의 의상 연구)

  • This research is to analyze costumes of Greek Mythology Gods in films using Morris' semiotics. In film "Clash of The Titans", Zeus' costume of shining gold armored body suit and long manteaux expressed the limitless sublime. The definite form contouring body shape of his costume also demonstrated classical beauty. Hades' costume of dark colored armor, long manteaux, and transformation via smoke also described the limitless sublime. The unbalanced and irregular shaped armor showed ugliness. In "Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightening Thief", the armor and long manteaux of Zeus showed the limitless sublime. The beauty of his body and his sophisticated business wear indicated classical beauty. These features were also present in Poseidon's costume as well. The limitless sublime and ugliness are implied in Hades' look by portraying him as having a monster body with horns and wings, and his costume of punk look. In "Immortals", gods of Olympus wore clothing that was reminiscent of Egyptian times, which represented a time of strong royal authority, in order to expose the limitless sublime. Classical beauty was shown in the beauty of their body. Titans' costumes and look of non-human being were composed of black and red to present ugliness. The inherent meanings of Gods' costumes are death of god, patriarchy, and the good triumphing over the evil. The Greek gods are not held in the same reverence in the contemporary society. However mythology inspires lots of visual creations. The results help to accumulate a creative design database for fashion.

Classical, Non-Clinical, and Clinical Evidence of Yokukansan for Alleviating Aggression: Scoping Review (치매 환자의 공격성 관리에 활용가능한 억간산(抑肝散)의 고전적, 비임상적, 임상적 근거현황)

  • Objectives: To review and analyze clinical and preclinical evidence of effectiveness, safety, and underlying mechanisms of yokukansan (YKS), a herbal medicine, in alleviating aggression. Methods: Classical records on YKS were searched in the Korean Traditional Medicine Knowledge Database (KTMKD). By searching five electronic databases, prospective clinical studies and preclinical studies of YKS for alleviating aggression/agitation published up to March 30, 2021 were included. Results: Only two classical records on YKS were found from the KTMKD. A total of 11 clinical studies and 15 preclinical studies were found from the five electronic databases. Among 11 clinical studies, seven enrolled patients with dementia and four enrolled patients with other neuropsychiatric disorders. Most clinical studies reported significant improvement in one or more outcomes related to aggression in the YKS group after treatment. Among 15 preclinical studies, all studies except two reported a significant decrease in aggression/agitation-related behavior of YKS or yokukansankachimpihange. Suggested underlying mechanisms of YKS or yokukansankachimpihange for aggression/agitation in these studies included regulation of serotonin receptor, amelioration of abnormal glucocorticoid level related to the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, regulation of orexin secretion, amelioration of degeneration in brain cells including glia cells, and suppression of excessive glutamatergic or dopaminergic activity. Conclusions: There were some clinical and preclinical evidence supporting the effectiveness and safety of YKS for alleviating aggression. Given that aggression is the most frequent and destructive symptoms of behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia, applicability of YKS as a herbal medicine should be further investigated in future high-quality research.
