Insulation Properties of Unaged Stator Winding Bars for Turbine Generators (터빈 발전기용 비열화 고정자 권선 바의 절연 특성)

  • Class-F and class-B insulating materials based on the resin rich type mica-epoxy composites for the stator windings in large turbine generators have been developed by DHIC. In recent, stator winding bars applied with prototype insulation tapes and commercially available resin rich groundwall tapes were produced through the same manufacturing processes as the real bars. Comparative tests to obtain the insulation properties of both bars were carried out such as IR/PI. dissipation factor and partial discharge at room temperature. In this paper, the manufacturing processes and the insulation properties of the bars which were not aged are presented.

  • In this paper, the numerical analysis of the model without air-guide was carried out in wind power generator. From numerical results, the temperature rise was not satisfied for the class F insulation and the non-uniformity of temperature distribution was a wide difference in heating elements. To improve these problems, the air-guide was installed in front of the coil head of non-drive end(NDE). The short distance between coil head and air-guide was more effective than long distance in cooling performance. Compared to that of the preliminary design, it was found that the cooling performance of the modification design was improved about 12%.

  • From the discovery of Alago's disk, a number of trials and efforts have been concentrated on a small-sized and light-weighted induction motor. They have devoted themseleves, however, mainly to a improvement of cooling effect, a proper weight-distribution of copper and iron and desirable number of slots. In consequence, such an effort restricted only to the field of design, has resulted in unsatisfactory developments in the insulating materials consisting of the main parts of an induction motor. The quality of fibre and paper which are used as class-A insulation materials with their "compound" and "varnish" has been increased to some extent. Similarly Class-B insulation materials like asbest mica has been almost a combination of inorganic and binding materials. But nowadays synthesic chemistry is making a remarkable progress. So it comes possible for us to have silicon resin and other good ones of similar charateristics. And even a thin silicon resin insures us to get excellent heat-pro f and insulation, so a better space factor and cost-down in motor design have come possible in most advanced nations of the world, but not in our country. Furthermore, a consideration of productivity and economy in manufacturing process has been neglected by a majority of engineers. This is more unpleasant und more undesirable. I think this rational method of induction motor design using new synthesic resin will devote in making your productivity and economy better. Characteristic of Current and Temperature according to Normal and Abnormal Operations at Induction Motor of 2.2 kW and 3.7 kW (2.2 kW와 3.7 kW 유도전동기의 정상과 구속운전에 따른 전류 및 온도 특성)

  • This study analyzed the current and temperature characteristics of major components of an induction motor during normal and abnormal operations as functions of the difference in the rated capacities of medium and large-sized motors widely used in industrial settings. The temperature rise equation of the induction motor winding was derived through locked-rotor operation experiments and linear regression analysis. When the ambient temperature is 40 ℃, the time to reach 155 ℃, the temperature limit of the insulation class (F class) of the winding of the induction motor, was confirmed to be 48 seconds for the 2.2 kW induction motor and 39 seconds for the 3.7 kW induction motor. This means that when the rated capacity is large or the installation environment is high temperature, the time to reach the temperature limit of the insulation class during locked-rotor operation is short, and the risk of insulation deterioration and fire is high. In addition, even if the EOCR (Electronic Over Current Relay) is installed, if the setting time is excessively set, the EOCR does not operate even if the normal and locked-rotor operation of the induction motor is repeated, and the temperature limit of the insulation grade of the winding of the induction motor is exceeded. The results of this study can be used for preventive measures such as the promotion of electrical and mechanical measures for the failure of induction motors and fire prevention in industrial sites, or the installation of fire alarm systems.

Electrical characteristics of class-F groundwall insulation tapes for stator windings (고정자 권선용 F종 주절연 테이프의 전기적 특성)

  • Class-F and B resin-rich type insulating tapes are generally used for the ground wall insulations of respective air-cooled and water-cooled stator windings in larger turbine generators. In this paper, their electrical properties coupled with aging times in higher temperature than designed one in normal condition were experimentally investigated and the results of two comparative tests were presented on the existing class-F resin-rich type tape and a developed one after curing. The resin-rich tapes currently used arc composed of six and a half 3-layer sheets that arc structured with mica paper, the top and bottom supports of it respectively, and the epoxy resin to bind them tightly. The results for breakdown voltage and strength on the cured specimens were presented, which were composed of the unaged, the aged accelerated for one, two, and three thousand hours at 180 $^{\circ}C$. The surface and volume resistivities on them were measured and the results are also presented to make a comparative test for the initial electrical characteristics.

  • Class-F resin-rich type insulating tapes are generally used for the groundwall insulations of the large turbine generators with air-cooled and hydrogen-cooled stator windings. In this paper, mechanical strength properties degraded over aging time in higher temperature than designed one in normal condition were experimentally investigated and the results of comparative tests were presented on the existing class-F resin-rich type tape and a developed one after curing. The resin-rich insulating tapes with composite material of Mica/Epoxy/support currently were used in this test. The tests for tensile and flexural strength properties were conducted with the specimens which were composed of unaged and the aged specimens accelerated for one, two, and three thousand hours at 180 $^{\circ}C$. The tensional strength was only measured for the unaged specimens and the results are also presented to make a comparative test for their initial mechanical characteristics.

  • This paper presents mechanical analysis of gas turbine generator (113MVA, $3{\phi}$, 2P, 0.9PF, F class, 3600rpm, 60Hz, 13.8kV, 4.72kA, Air-Cooling) field coil deformation. Rotor end coil deformation is only appeared on turbine end but collector end coil is normal. Expansion direction of end coil is tangential not axial. Deformation appears more severe at top turn. Retaining ling is expanded by centrifugal force of coil and itself. In case friction coefficient between coil top surface and retaining ring insulation inner surface is small, coil end length ${\ell}$ does not change. However, in case friction coefficient big condition, coil end is expanded ${\Delta}{\ell}$ due to start and stop. Deformation is assumed about 30mm by watching photograph inner surface of retaining ring is coated by Teflon at manufacturing condition. Usually Teflon coating insulation surface is small friction coefficient. It's value 0.08${\sim}$0.15. However it's value exceeds more than 0.297. Since top turn deformation appears. The distortion and subsequent failure have occurred because of the lack of a sufficient slip-plane between the top field coil conductors and the inside surface of the retaining ring insulation on the turbine end of the field-winding.

Measurement and evaluation of speech privacy in university office rooms (대학 내 사무실의 스피치 프라이버시 측정 및 평가)

  • The speech privacy of closed office rooms located in a university campus was measured and assessed in terms of SPC (Speech Privacy Class) values. The measurements of two quantities, the LD (Level Difference) between a source and a receiving room, and the background noise level ($L_b$) at the receiving room were carried out in 5 rooms located in 3 different buildings in the university campus. Each of the 5 rooms was adjacent to both offices and corridors through walls. The TL (Transmission Loss) between the source and the receiver room was also measured to compare the difference of two standard methods, ASTM E2836-10 and KS F 2809. The present results show that the speech privacy of the 5 office rooms is not met the requirement for a minimum SPC values of 70. A minimum LD value of 41 dB between the source and the receiver room should be achieved for having a SPC value of 70 when the mean measured value of $L_b$ at the receiving room is 29.2 dB. That is, the TL(avg) value averaged over the octave bands from 160 Hz to 5000 Hz between the source and the receiver room should be or greater than 40 dB. The most important architectural factor influencing the LD value is the presence of openings, such as doors, and windows, on the adjacent walls between the source and receiving room. Therefore, if the opening of the adjacent wall is replaced by an opening with high sound insulation, the appropriate SPC value of the research and office rooms can be achieved.

Failure Analysis and Heat-resistant Evaluation of Electric Fuel Pump for Combat Vehicle (전투차량용 전기식 연료펌프의 고장분석 및 내열성능 평가)

  • Failure analysis and heat-resistant were performed for an electric fuel pump that is installed in the fuel tank to transfer fuel to the engine of combat vehicles. The fuel pump with a DC motor was disassembled and inspected to determine the cause of failure. The failure phenomenon was classified into three categories based on observations of the inside of the housing: burnt winding, quick brush abrasion, and fuel leak into the pump. Based on the inspection results, it was estimated that overheating was the main cause of failure. The thermal test was conducted under the no-load condition in 24 hours, and the thermal sensor was installed on the stator surface and the brush holder to check the possibility of damage to the winding due to overheating. When the ambient temperature of the fuel pump was set to 68 ℃, the stator temperature increased to 135.9 ℃, and the winding of the motor was almost damaged. The test results confirmed the lack of heat resistance of fuel pump windings, and suggested that the type F of insulation class (below 155 ℃) of the windings and varnish should be replaced with type C or higher that can be used above 180 ℃.
