  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the current status of claim management process of general contractors in South Korea. As the claim management becomes more important nowadays, maintaining the process for claim management systematically and consistently becomes more important as well. To improve the claim management process, it is necessary to diagnose the current status of claim management process so companies establish their targets for improvement. This study develops a survey to identify the current status of claim management process that major general contractors in South Korea have. Questions in the survey are classified into four categories including entitlement check, potential claim event check, time bar check, and tasks for substantiation. By conducting a series of statistical analyses with 94 survey data collected from employees working in the general contractor companies in South Korea, this study examines and analyzes their claim management process in terms of the several categories. It is expected that the results contribute to diagnosing how practitioners maintain their claim management, which will help them establish the direction of management enhancement.

  • In this article, the organizational structures of check- in and claim function are examined. The procedure and function of serials control system(CLASSMATE, EBSCONET, LINX, NOTIS, INNOVACQ) are analyzed, particularly in check- in and claim system. A check-in and claim system is suggested through analysis of above serials control systems.

  • Many studies on cause and prevention of claim have been carried out but they were mostly intended to come up with the improvement measures, improvement system or the measures to deal with the claim, which consequently lacked the substantial ways to identify the details of claim for prevention purpose. That is, there's in fact no tool, in preparation for potential claims, to identify and review the major potential causes at design stage to mitigate the claim and thus, it's necessary to develop the tool such as checklist needed to prepare the claim-supporting documents, check the relevant laws as well as to identify the cause of claim. Hence the study, given the fact that cause of claim is mostly generated at the design stage though the claim itself tends to occur at the construction stage, was aimed at developing the checklist based on contract document such as design documents at design stage for public construction projects in a bid to prevent the potential claim occurred at the design stage.

  • Kim et al.(2003) studied a prediction model for students likely to transfer. In their study they claim that a training data construction scheme is better than other schemes, which trains neural network on the data from the year right before prediction year. One problem with their claim is that it is based on rather high prediction error rate. In this paper we establish a more sound comparison for various training data construction schemes and check validity of their claim. It turns out that the favored scheme has sufficient advantages over other schemes.

  • Because a procedure is complicated and various related parties participate in the redevelopment and reconstruction project, it can be extended to diverse disputes when the relation with the related parties is smoothly adjusted. In particular, when the dispute occurs in a phase of occupancy after the complete construction, the regional residents-centric association must give up many rights of invisible parts caused by the construction company's profit maximization because they are short of professionalism about the business. Accordingly, this study is aimed at providing the construction project manager's dispute and claim process for responding to the dispute or claim reasonably and for obtaining the client's (association) rights for the reconstruction project, and at developing the checklist for obtaining the necessary documents by each phase, when the dispute or claim is made by the association against the construction company after the completion of construction. Through this study, the association can obtain the related documents in advance and can implement the reasonable response data when the dispute or claim occurs due to it. Also, it will enable the construction manager to analyze the project costs reasonably and will reduce the estimated wastes. That is, the work efficiency is expected to be improved.

  • Changes in business environment caused by globalization of the world economy and the beginning of the knowledge society forced hospitals to equip with tools for the enhanced competitiveness. In other words, hospitals must aim three targets such as acquisition of advanced medical skills and equipments, improvement of service level for patients, and achievement of superior managerial performance simultaneously. This study has been done to suggest a way to reduce the possibility of hospital bill claim reduction as an alternative for the achievement of superior managerial performance. If the reduction rate of hospital bill claim is high, it will put negative impact on the hospital's revenue stream and hospital's reliability. Thus, if they want to stay competitive, hospitals need to device ways to cut the reduction rate as much as possible. In this study, a prototype system has been developed and implemented to check the possibility to cut the reduction rate through deep analysis of causes of reduction. The prototype first developed utilizing data mining techniques and the relation rules algorithm. Then the prototype was tested its performance using the D hospital's live data.

  • Iran's relations with the Far East date back to the Parthian Period. Despite this, the collapse of the Sasanian Empire and the escape of Yazdgird's survivors is currently being re-evaluated as the beginning of a new chapter in bilateral ties, especially between Iran and China and Iran and Silla. In a chapter of $Ku{\check{s}}-n{\bar{a}}meh$ (KN), the text describes Silla (an individual's name) as the father of the people of Silla (toponym). In this paper, I have tried to give a reasonable interpretation for this narration by KN. Also I have frequently referred to other texts to present a comparative study that supports my claim.

  • There are various views in the boundary of deflationism of truth in regarding the nature and role of truth. This paper surveys the issue on how the core thesis uniting the deflationism is characterized. First, I will examine some comments on what is the central thesis supported or rejected by the deflationists and inflationists, mainly discussing Armour-Garb and Beall's work, and will show on which aspects they are unsatisfying. From this, I will suggest these statements: first, the central cores of deflationism are conceptual fundamentality and explanatory exhausting. Second, the particularity thesis, understood in an alternative way, cannot be a central claim of deflationism. Third, another important claim from deflationists, the expression thesis, can be derived from the two main thesis above. But it is still not clear enough what the non-expressive explanatory role of truth, which is denied by the expression thesis. So I will check some possible clarifications on it and discuss why they should be rejected. And I will introduce Dummett's view on the role of truth condition in truth conditional explanation of meaning, and I will claim that if Dummett is right why the role must be a inflated one. Finally, I will suggest a further implication that the understanding on the both sides can be widened by connecting considerations on both views.

  • Korea has a long history in astronomy, which is proved by many observational records written in Korean chronicles. There are 43 sunspot records in Goryeo dynasty (高麗 918-1392) and 13 records in Joseon dynasty (朝鮮 1392-1910). According to analysis of Korean historical records, it is known that sunspot records in Goryeo dynasty show well in match with the well-known solar activity of 11.3 years. It means that Korean historical sunspot records show real solar phenomena. Korean sunspot records also show that solar activity decrease in Joseon dynasty compared with the previous ~500 years. In order to know the change of solar activity in detail, we examine Korean historical atmospheric records which can indicate climate change. We first analyze historical frost records. Korean chronicles have around 600 frost records during the last millennium. We find that the climate change shows sign of cooling down when check the variation of epoch that the first and last frost events in each year are written. This result is well in accord with that of historical sunspot records. Therefore, we claim that solar activity decrease during the last thousand years.
