Comparison of Total Protein, DNA, and RNA Contents by Corpus Luteum in Various Stages of Estrous Cycle and Pregnancy

  • This study was conducted to measure the total protein, DNA, and RNA contents of corpus luteum(CL) in various stages of estrous cycle and pregnancy. CLs were collected from a local slaughterhouse and stages of the estrous cycle of CL were classified as CL1~2, days 1 to 10; CL3(with/without central cavity), days 11 to 17; CL4, days 18 to 20 by method of Ireland et. al(1980) and stages of the pregnancy of CL were classified as P1~3, months 11~3: P4~6, months 4~6; P7~9, months 7~9 of pregnancy. CL3 with/without central cavity(CC) was identified as described by Kastelic et. al.(1990)-CL with CC, more than 2mm in diameter; CL without CC, less than 2mm in diameter. In total protein content, CL3 with CC was significantly lower than P7~9(p<.05). The total DNA content was lower in CL3 with CC than CL3 without CC and CL4(p<.05). In protein : DNA ratio, CL3 with CC was significantly lower than CL4(p<.05), CL3 without CC was significantly lower than P7~9(p<.05), CL4 was significantly lower than CL3 with CC, P1~3 and P7~9(p<.05). No differences were observed in RNA content, protein:RNA ratio, RNA/DNA of CLs in stages of estrous cycle and pregnancy.

  • It has been found that both of the iridium (Ⅰ) complexes, Ir$(ClO_4$)(AN)(CO)$(Ph_3P)_2$(AN = $CH_2$CHCN, $Ph_3P = (C_6H_5)_3$P) and [Ir(AN)(CO)$(Ph_3P)_2]ClO_4$, react with $Cl^-$ to give IrCl(AN)(CO)$(Ph_3P)_2$, and [Ir(AN)(CO)$(Ph_3P)_2]ClO_4$ dissociates AN to yield Ir$(ClO_4)(CO)(Ph_3P)_2$ in the absence of excess AN added, and Ir$(ClO_4)(CO)(Ph_3P)_2$ reacts with $Cl^-$ to produce IrCl(CO)$(Ph_3P)_2$. It is suggested that the catalytic polymerization of AN with Ir$(ClO_4)(AN)(CO)(Ph_3P)_2$ proceeds through the formation of [(CO)(Ph_3P)_2$Ir(-CH=CHCN)(H)($CH_2$=CHCN)]Cl$O_4$ followed by the formation of iridium(alkyl)(alkenyl) type complex which undergoes a reductive elimination to produce the polymer of acrylonitrile.

A Direct Kinetic Study of Cl Atom Reactions (염소원자의 반응속도 연구)

  • A non-Boltzman equilibrium population of $Cl(^2P_{1/2})$ atoms has been observed in a flow discharge-atomic absorpion experiment. The rates of reactions of $Cl(^2P_{3/2})$ atoms with various substrates are in reasonable agreement with reported values determined by competition methods. The similar reactivities of both $Cl(^2P_{1/2})$ and $Cl(^2P_{3/2})$ atoms indicate that the contribution of $Cl(^2P_{1/2})$ atoms to the rate measurements in the competition experiment is small, and this negligible contribution may be the reason why the rate constants obtained by assuming single reactive species (in competition method) agree well with our direct measurement.

  • In order to simulate the leaching solution of copper sulfide ore in $FeCl_3$ solutions, synthetic solutions with composition of $FeCl_3$-$FeCl_2$-$CuCl_2$-CuCl-NaCl-HCl-$H_2O$ were prepared. The concentration of iron and copper chloride was varied from 0.1 to 1 m in synthetic solutions. The effect of composition on the mixed solution pH and potential at $25^{\circ}C$ was measured. When HCl concentration was constant, the increase of CuCl concentration increased solution pH. The increase of other solutes excluding HCl and CuCl decreased solution pH owing to the increase of the activity coefficient of hydrogen ion. A high CuCl concentration favored the redox equilibrium in the direction of Cu(I), while $FeCl_3$ had the opposite effect.

Optimization of TiCl4 Concentration and Initial pH for Phosphorus Removal in Synthetic Wastewater (합성폐수 내 인을 제거하기 위한 TiCl4 농도 및 초기 pH 최적조건 도출)

  • This study experimentally determined the effect of titanium tetrachloride (TiCl4) concentration ([TiCl4]) (0.25-0.55 mM) and initial pH (3-11) on phosphorus (P) removal in synthetic wastewater (2 mg P/L). The P removal efficiency increased when [TiCl4] increased. The P removal efficiency showed a parabolic trend with an inflection point at pH 7. At the molar ratio of TiCl4 and P>6.2, the P removal efficiency was over 90% and the residual P concentration was less than 0.2 mg/L. Within the design boundaries, the complete P removal could be achieved at 7.0≤initial pH≤8.5 and 0.43≤[TiCl4]≤0.55 mM. The final pH was over 5.8 at initial pH≥7.7 and [TiCl4]≥0.35 mM. The results showed that TiCl4 was effective in P removal in water so that it could be an alternative chemical for P removal.

Effects of NaCl Concentration on Physicochemical Properties of Pork Emulsion (NaCl 첨가량에 따른 돈육 유화물의 이화학적 특성)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of NaCl concentration on the physicochemical properties of pork emulsion. Pork emulsion was produced containing 0% (control), 0.3%, 0.6%, 0.9%, 1.2%, and 1.5% NaCl. Proximate composition of pork emulsion containing 1.5% NaCl showed the highest moisture content (P<0.05). The ash contents of pork emulsion increased with an increase in NaCl, and protein contents decreased with increasing NaCl concentration. The pH levels of uncooked pork emulsion containing 0.9%, 1.2%, and 1.5% NaCl were lower than those of other treatments (P<0.05), and the pH level of cooked pork emulsion containing NaCl was lower than that of the control (P<0.05). The CIE $L^*$ value of the uncooked pork emulsion samples containing NaCl was higher than that of the control (P<0.05), whereas CIE $a^*$ and CIE $b^*$ values of samples with NaCl were lower than the control (P<0.05). CIE $L^*$ and CIE $b^*$ values of cooked pork emulsion decreased with an increase in NaCl level, and CIE $a^*$ value increased with increasing NaCl concentration (P<0.05). Viscosity of the pork emulsion increased with an increase in NaCl. Texture profile analysis of pork emulsion containing NaCl showed no significant difference in springiness or cohesiveness (P>0.05). Pork emulsion containing 1.5% NaCl showed the highest hardness, gumminess, and chewiness (P<0.05). These results suggest that pork emulsion containing 0.9% and 1.2% NaCl can be used as a low-salt meat product.

Chlorination Kinetics of Synthetic Rutile with Cl2+CO Gas (Cl2+CO 혼합가스에 의한 합성루타일 염화반응의 속도론적 연구)

  • The chlorination kinetics of synthetic rutile prepared by selective chlorination of ilmenite with Cl2 and CO gas mixture were studied in a fluidized bed. Th e effects of reaction temperature, reaction time, and the ratio of Cl2 and CO partial pressure ($p_{Cl_2}/p_{CO}$) on the conversion rate of TiCl4 were investigated. The conversion rate of TiC4 was low under the high $p_{Cl_2}/p_{CO}$ conditions. Moreover, it was considered that the partial pressure of CO gas was more effective than that of Cl2 gas when comparing the stoichiometric conversion rate and experimental results of high CO partial pressure. Considering the porous structure of particles, the rate controlling step of the chlorination of synthetic rutile was determined to be chemical reaction and the activation energy was calculated as 53.77 kJ/mol.

Physicochemical Properties of Chicken Thigh Meat Batter Containing Various Concentrations of NaCl (닭다리살 유화물의 염화나트륨(NaCl) 첨가수준에 따른 이화학적 특성)

  • Physicochemical characteristics of chicken-thigh emulsion manufactured with different concentrations of NaCl (0, 0.3, 0.6, 0.9, 1.2, and 1.5%) were examined. Moisture and ash contents of samples containing 1.2% and 1.5% NaCl were significantly higher than those of the other samples (p<0.05). Protein contents decreased with increasing NaCl concentration. The pH values of batters significantly decreased with increasing NaCl concentration (p<0.05). The lightness values of uncooked and cooked samples showed an upward trend with increasing concentration of NaCl. Redness and yellowness values of uncooked batters containing 1.2% and 1.5% NaCl were significantly lower than other samples (p<0.05). The cooking yield and viscosity of the samples increased with increasing NaCl concentration. Samples containing 1.2% and 1.5% NaCl showed higher viscosities than the controls and samples containing 0.3-0.9% NaCl. Therefore, it can be concluded that addition 1.2% NaCl in chicken thigh products is beneficial.

  • This study was carried out 19 investigate the characteristics of pectinesterase (PE), polygalacturonase (PG), lipoxygenase(LOX) and peroxidase (POD) in hot pepper to know the effect of hot pepper on food quality during food processing and storage. The results were as follows : 1. The optimum pH of PE was pH 7.5 and the activity of PE below pH 5.5 was revealed scarcely, The concentration of NaCl and $CaCl_2$ that showed the highest activity of PE were 0.2M and 0.05M, respectively. 2. The optimum pH of PG was pH 6.0 and the activity of PG in acidity was higher than that in alkalinity. The activity of PG was maximum at 0.3M NaCl and 0.2mM $CaCl_2$. Above the concentration of 0.5M NaCl and 0.5M $CaCl_2$, the activity of PG was lower than that of PG not adding these salts 3. The optimum pH of LOX was pH 7.0 and pH 8.5. 4. The optimum pH of POD was pH 6.0 and the activity of POD was higher in weak acidity and neutrality than in alkalinity. POD activity was slightly decreased by the increase of NaCl and $CaCl_2$ concentration.

Genetic Analysis of TGFA, MTHFR, and IFR6 in Korean Patients Affected by Nonsyndromic Cleft Lip with or without Cleft Palate (CL/P)

  • Nonsyndromic cleft lip with or without cleft palate (CL/P) is a common craniofacial birth defect that is the result of a mixture of genetic and environmental factors. While studies have identified a number of different candidate genes and loci for the etiology of CL/P, the results have not been consistent among different ethnic groups. To study the genetic association of the candidate genes in Korean patients affected by CL/P, we genotyped 97 nonsyndromic CL/P patients and 100 control individuals using single nucleotide polymorphic markers at the MTHFR, TGFA, and IRF6 genes. We report that the T3827C marker at TGFA showed significant association with nonsyndromic CL/P, but all the other markers tested were not significantly associated with nonsyndromic CL/P in Korean patients.
