  • The existing measurement system to ground-surface displacement survey of the slope has been including the hazard for the measure in site and the difficulty for install, maintenance and control of expensive instruments, which are impossible of whole survey on the slope surface. To overcome of those defects, Softcopy Photogrammertry method is used, which can measure displacement of ground-surface on the slope and structure deformation vectors. Recently, the survey methods applying the advantages of Photogrammetry and Digital Photogrammetry Survey are widely used. In this study, therefore, the development and application of the new instrument mechanism on the the site example are studied. Through the application of Softcopy Photogrammetry, the 3-D data of ground surface on the dangerous slope could be effectively obtained at the long distance, which are obtained through the reform process of contour line. Those are different to the results of the Close-Range Photogrammetry analysis. In ground instrumentation parts, the new practical system shall be the technical base to improve of the instrument machine as well as can be widely applied in civil engineering and others branch.

  • A fish-bone type bridge is vulnerable to the torsional behavior due to the single girder system with planar zigzag conformation. The fixed connecting area between the girder and pier is the special weak point because the torsional load creates excessive stress concentration. Therefore, the method to reduce the stress concentration is required. In this study, the reduction efficiency of various reinforcing types to reduce the excessive stress occurring at the connecting area is evaluated by using numerical analyses.

  • This paper presents the slope wall technique using soil improvement material for reinforced soil slope through laboratory scale model tests, and verifies the experimental results comparing with numerical analysis. In additional, case study in field has performed to investigate the deformation of reinforced soil slope for 6 months. As a result of laboratory scale model test, numerical analysis, and case study, the reinforcement effect of the slope wall technique using soil improvement material is sufficient to be constructed as reinforced soil slope. The technique shows the stable ratio (0.4%) of horizontal to vertical deformation in the surface loading.

  • This paper reviews the current seismic design code and research for dynamic earth pressure on retaining structures. Domestic design codes do not clearly define the estimation of dynamic earth pressure and give different comments for seismic coefficient, wall inertia and distribution of dynamic earth pressure using Mononobe-Okabe method. AASHTO has been revised reflecting current research and aims for effective seismic design. Various design codes are analyzed to compare their performance and economic efficiency. The results are used to make improvement of current domestic seismic design code. Further, it is concluded that the experimental investigation is also needed to verify and improve domestic seismic code for dynamic earth pressure.

  • This paper investigates experimentally the confinement effect on concrete. For this purpose, outside lateral reinforcement members made of stainless steel and GFRP were employed. Then, uniaxial compressive tests on concrete cylinders incorporating the members were conducted. A total of 30 cylinder specimens, specifically, 6 unconfined specimens, 12 specimens confined by stainless steel and 12 specimens confined by GFRP, were fabricated. The failure patterns of both unconfined and confined specimens were assessed and discussed based on experimental results. The results proved that the maximum stress and corresponding strains of the cylinders confined using the proposed hoops are increased in comparison with those of the unconfined. This supports that the current work can be used for retrofitting concrete members and structures and thus may lead to increased stability of such structures.

  • In this paper the development and implementation of an artificial intelligence (AI)-based Tunnelling Impact prediction and assessment program (SKKU-iTunnel) is presented. Program predicts tunnelling induced surface settlement and groundwater drawdown by utilizing well trained ANNs and uses these predicted values to perform the damage assessment likely to occur in nearby structures and pipelines/utilities for a given tunnel problem. Generalised artificial neural networks (ANNs) were trained, to predict the induced parameters, through databases generated by combining real field data and numerical analysis for cases that represented real field conditions. It is shown that program equipped with carefully trained ANN can predict tunnel impact assessments and perform damage assessments quiet efficiently and comparable accuracy to that of numerical analysis. This paper describes the idea and implementation details of the SKKU-iTunnel with an example for demonstration.

  • In recent years, coastal dune erosion has accelerated as various structures have been developed around the coastal dunes. A land cover map should be developed to identify the characteristics of sand dunes and to monitor the condition of sand dunes. The Korean Ministry of Environment's land cover maps suffer from problems, such as limited classes, target areas, and durations. Thus, this study conducted experiments using RGB and multispectral images based on UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) over an approximately one-year cycle to create a land cover map of coastal dunes. RF (Random Forest) classifier was used for the analysis in accordance with the experimental region's characteristics. The pixel- and object-based classification results obtained by using RGB and multispectral cameras were evaluated, respectively. The study results showed that object-based classification using multispectral images had the highest accuracy. Our results suggest that constant monitoring of coastal dunes can be performed effectively.

  • This study is to estimate COMS (Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite) daily land surface temperature (LST) of Korea Peninsula from 15 minutes interval COMS LST (COMS LST-15) satellite data. Using daily observed LST data of Automated Agriculture Observing System (AAOS) 11 stations from January 2013 to May 2015, the COMS daily LST was compared and validated. For the representative time for daily mean LST value from COMS LST-15, the time of 23 : 45 and 0:00 showed minimum deviations with AAOS daily LST. The time zone from 23 : 45 to 1:15 and from 7 : 30 to 9 : 45 showed high determination coefficient (R2) of 0.88 and 0.90 respectively. The daily COMS LST by averaging COMS LST-15 of the day showed R2 of 0.83. From the 5 cases of results, the COMS daily LST could be extracted from the average LST by using 15 minutes data from 7 : 30 to 9 : 45.

  • To analyze the landslide susceptibility in Baekdu mountain area in china, we get two susceptibility maps using AcrView software through weighted overlay GIS (Geographic Information System) method in this paper. To assess the landslide susceptibility, five factors which affect the landslide occurrence were selected as: slope, aspect, soil type, geological type, and land use. The weight value and rating value of each factor were calculated by the two different methods of AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) and ANN (Artificial Neural Network). Then, the weight and rating value was used to obtain the susceptibility maps. Finally, the susceptibility map shows that the very dangerous areas (0.9 or higher) were mainly distributed in the mountainous areas around JiAnShi, LinJiangShi, and HeLongShi near the china-north Korea border and in the mountainous area between the WangQingXian and AnTuXian. From the contrast two susceptibility map, we also Knew that The accuracy of landslide susceptibility map drew by ANN method was better than AHP method.
