Purpose - In the context of economic globalization and the continuous development of international trade, as countries around the sea peninsula, port construction is particularly important. Based on the research on the influencing factors of port logistics development based on the allocation analysis, QCA (Qualitative Comparative Analysis) provides the basis for the planning and policy of port logistics development and has important theoretical value and practical significance for improving the level of port logistics management, reducing logistics operating costs and increasing economic benefits. In the tide of global integration for the development of port logistics, promote the growth of foreign trade economy of the city. It is also of great significance to the development and progress of commerce and trade. Design/methodology - Based on the relevant data samples of various ports in South Korea, this paper uses fsQCA (fuzzy set Qualitative Comparative Analysis) to integrate and analyze the influence mechanism of port logistics development and extracts five influencing factors of port logistics development, including the port's scale and infrastructure in the hard environment, port-neighboring enterprises in the soft environment, hinterland economy and government support. Findings - The five factors are unable to separately constitute the necessary and sufficient conditions of port logistics development, only a combined model can influence lake port logistics development. The scale and infrastructure of the port itself and port-neighboring ring enterprises are the main core conditions, which work together on the port, affect the throughput capacity of the port, and promote the development of port logistics. When the port-neighboring enterprises are not complete and the scale is low, the growth of port throughput will be restrained and the development of port logistics will be affected, whether the hinterland economic benefits are general, the development of port-neighboring enterprises is insufficient, or the government supports are limited. Originality/value - Through the research on the development of port logistics in South Korea from the perspective of configuration, this paper finds the configuration influence of hard environment and soft environment on the development of port logistics, which has important theoretical and practical significance for better promoting the development of port logistics in South Korea.
Moving toward an aged society, traffic accidents involving elderly drivers have also attracted broader public attention. A rapid increase of senior involvement in crashes calls for developing appropriate crash-severity prediction models specific to senior drivers. In that regard, this study leverages machine learning (ML) algorithms so as to predict the severity of vehicle-pedestrian collisions induced by elderly drivers. Specifically, four ML algorithms (i.e., Logistic model, K-nearest Neighbor (KNN), Random Forest (RF), and Support Vector Machine (SVM)) have been developed and compared. Our results show that Logistic model and SVM have outperformed their rivals in terms of the overall prediction accuracy, while precision measure exhibits in favor of RF. We also clarify that driver education and technology development would be effective countermeasures against severity risks of senior driver-induced collisions. These allow us to support informed decision making for policymakers to enhance public safety.

Public spaces in the cities are social and economic resources to maintain sustainable urban revitalization. As an importance of public spaces is getting increased, many cities focus on public space management and introduce their own management system. NYC Plaza Program is one of the public space management systems in USA and it was designed in order to transform underused roads and streets into pedestrian public spaces throughout the New York City. Plaza management system works with private organizations' participation as NYC Department of Transportation empowers selected private organizations to the right of management and assists their efforts. In this study, we focused on how the plazas are managed by private sectors and seek to find out characteristics of types of management methods based on landuse(residential, commercial and openspace) status around plazas. We analyzed 61 plazas that generated by NYC Plaza Program with three major conditions of management system including organization, fund and activities. There are three major findings from the analysis. 1)In most residential surrounded plazas, resident-initiative organizations manage small scaled fund and activities meanwhile public agencies support their management. 2)BID is a dominant tool in the commercial surrounded plazas. BID provides with secured fund, mid-sized activities and a broad network with commercial facilities. 3)Openspace-surrounded types are usually using supports of exiting organizations and fund system.

This study analyzed the physical characteristics and change characteristics of urban detached residential area. In the reality of South Korea in which the history of modern urbanization is not long, the densification that progressed together with sudden population growth without any consideration of city plans became to reveal many problems. Thereafter, apartment-centered large scaled development plans have been implemented until now as an alternative for the foregoing. As the residential environments of old downtown areas that were excluded from the development have been gradually deteriorated, large scaled re-development and reconstruction projects have been adopted as ways to solve the problems of the old downtown areas. On one hand, the development methods that damage the history of the detached housing areas have been resisted. With such a background, this study attempted the analysis of the change characteristics of the Kookmin Housing Complex in Suyu 1-dong, Seoul with a view to playing the role of evidentiary materials for the disappearing urban detached housing areas or those urban detached housing areas that may be revived. This author hopes and the results of this study will lead to careful development that presents measures to maintain and develop modern urban residential areas where the history of past residential areas and culture are disappearing due to full-scale redevelopment.

In the past, the rooftop was a place where a water tank was to be installed, and a space of secretion and concealment such as a warehouse exposed in the air. It was because it was judged to hinder the beauty of a city as a whole without having any functional value per se. However, the roof portion is increasingly being utilized for a space such as a cafe, a pub, and a lounge as the rooftop is highly recognized as a place for leisure activities other than an idle space in modern times. Nonetheless, there are no detailed ordinances and criteria corresponding to such circumstances. For example, in case of the rooftop space, the building code applied to the rooftop space is a legal system when the rooftop was an idle space in the past though people have now accessed more increasingly to the rooftop than in the past. This study investigated the definition on the rooftop space evolved in accordance with the change of the rooftop space and the related legal system in Korea, and conducted a survey for the purpose of performing the field investigation for the analysis of physical status in 117 spaces that form the rooftop space in the rooftop of small-scale commercial facilities with 2 stories through 4 stories in Korea and analyze the recognition of users and analyzing the recognition of users. We analyzed the problems in the rooftop space through analysis of derived data, and suggested improvement plans.

The purpose of this study is to examine the condition of the architectural location and the history of Yeongbojeong and investigate the motivation which formed the YuSik space and the poetical circles of it. And another purpose of the study is to discover how Yeongbojeong, located in a military camp in Western coast, displayed the poetic scenery so to be the poetic summer house among so many Nujeongs in Joseon. Yeongbojeong is currently located in Soseong-ri, Ocheon-myeon, Boryeong City, Chungnam. Yeongbojeong has the biggest size among all the summer houses in the country with 24 architectural rooms. And Yeongbojeong is not only the summer house in which people could simply see its scenery, but beyond the poetic space of Joseon, it was the unique poetic summer house which enables poets and calligraphers to enjoy imaginary freedom. The time range of the study was from the building of Yeongbojeong in 1504 to its demolish in 1901, and its space range was taken focused on the particular scenery which was seen from around Yeongbojeong. To investigate the architectural aspect of Yeongbojeong, the existing records about the summer houses, "OcheonGoonJi" and the landscape paintings etc. were referred. The travel records and poems in the work collection of the famous poets who explored Yeongbojeong were referred to examine the formation of the Yeongbojeong poetical circles. The result of the study shows the process that Yeongbojeong had become the famous national place with scenery and how it became the most visited YuSik space. And this study figured out the full account of Yeongbojeong poetical circles which had been formed by so many poets of the country for 4 hundred years.

In modern architecture, the concept is the central axis of the design process, but it is not yet a building. The concept is modified in the process of realization because it captures only a part of reality. However, in the works of some Japanese architects, the concept seems to have become almost a building. In this study, I tried to find the cause of such a contradictory situation centering on House N of Fujimoto Sou, which is a representative architect of such tendency. Specifically, I analyzed the concept of House N by dividing it into aspects of function and representation. The reason for this was to see if the functional aspects of the concept were not modified in the first place, or if the representational aspects of the concept covered the functional aspects. For this purpose, I used WLVAE, which is a visual analysis tool, to analyze the functions of design concepts, along with the analysis of photographs, drawings, and diagrams. As a result of the analysis, House N was also modified to conditions of reality in the process of building, but the initial purity was emphasized in the representation of the concept, so that the building seemed to be very conceptual. This fact suggests that the architect has divided the functional and representational aspects of the concept and has focused on the latter. In conclusion this can be seen as an expression of the architect's interpretation of the relationship between the house and the city through the building.

Low-rise residential community is the most popular type (51%) of residential neighborhoods in Seoul. Currently, there is a shortage of public facilities needed for living conditions and the quality of life in low-rise residential areas. This study defines 'public facility' as infrastructure to improve the living environment and used by residents jointly in low-rise residential areas. In this regard, this study analyzes current legal and institutional standards, latest trends in public facility of apartments, and residents' demand and satisfaction level in order to find out the criteria for installation of priority public facilities. As a result, the essential facility basically conforms to the number of household which is the standard of the facility supply in apartment. However, considering the limitations on the accessibility due to low density, it should consider two standards at the same time: the number of household and distance (radius of neighborhood). In conclusion, it is necessary to install legally prescribed facilities according to the number of household and distance: 500 households facilities in 250m radius neighborhood and 1,000 households facilities in 400m radius neighborhood. Also, considering the reality of low-rise residential area, it is necessary to integrate some facilities that can be functionally linked to improve level of utility and efficiency of operation and management. It is expected that the output of this study can be applied to institutionalize of the legal basis for the public facility of low-rise residential community.

The purpose of this study is to introduce a town management system that utilizes private sectors and public space resources in urban management area. In this study, we are studying 7 town management districts in Japan which have been establishing diverse management systems that are propelled by the private sectors and private fund. We analyzed qualitative characteristics of 7 town management districts by surveying the operating status of organization, financial management and activities. Through the analysis, we clarified their characteristics that are related to establishing background. Also, we suggested conclusions of the study as follows: First of all, it is important to develop a town management method that takes into account the characteristics of the target district in order to overcome the limitation of applying uniform method and increase sustainability and efficiency of privately-led urban management. Second, marketing and promotion are critical strategies in town management since they are satisfying both private and public benefits. The high rate of reinvestment in marketing and promotions shows efforts to maintain the asset value of the private sector and continue to revitalize the city. Finally, in order to carry out urban management with private initiative, it is necessary to establish a working organization capable of realizing the operational direction of the steering committee to secure the executive power.

The purpose of this research is to identify the characteristics of the positive and negative expressions about residential common life between the elderly and the young and present the direction on Homeshare. In-depth interviews were conducted from Feb. to May 2016 to identify the experiences of residential common life with 10 elderly and 11 young. The result is as follows. First, Homeshare dwelling was classified into five themes of human being, residential environment, life, management and emotion. Homeshare unlike ordinary dwelling centered on blood relatives, is characteristic to involve the management that connects between the elderly and young. Second, both the elderly and young were analyzed to be positive about the residential common life. It was shown that the elderly are most positive about human being, whereas young are positive about management and residential environment. The elderly is positive to mutual exchange with the young and young's independent life but the young is positive to factors that support comfortable personal life. Third, negative expression was shown a generation gap between the elderly and the young. The elderly recognized to be negative that young people has lived freely without consideration for the elderly. In order to solve these factors, it is necessary to make improvements through arranging rules for living. Fourth, three themes, human being, residential environment and life, analyzed to be the most important factors to sustain residential common life of Homeshare. The link between management and 3 themes leads to an expansion of positive emotion, which is structurally stable and is expected to increase the sustainability of the residential common life on Homeshare.
