  • This study introduces the new role of science museums. The practitioners from seven domestic science museums and four overseas ones participated in this study and responded the questionnaires. I identified what kind of science culture programs there are, if those programs were successful or not, and if unsuccessful, what kind of improvements can be made to be successful. The participating practitioners in science museums also developed an ideal and realistic community cooperation-based science culture programs and I explored the role of a new science museum for this purpose. In the case of current science culture programs, the most successful or not was the participation of visitors according to public relations, and the importance of public relations were mentioned as improvements. For a successful community cooperation-based science and culture program, active promotion, pre-operation team, dedicated personnel, open mind, and same purpose of other institutions, the will of both institutions, and economic support sponsors are important variables. In the case of the domestic science museums, the actual development and operation of the program showed that a successful community based program must have cooperation with other institutions in the same region, win-win connections, the dedicated human resources, and that each science museum's strengths were maximized. The science culture programs in the 21st century will enhance the innovative role of science museums making the use of local human and physical infrastructure, reflecting the needs of citizens, taking the initiative in the community, fostering cooperation-based professional human resources, and communicating smoothly with the government or local governments.

  • It is said that we live in an age of technology. And indeed, science and technology do play key roles to our life of happiness, but they are equally central in all events that threaten it. Science and technology are the means we often turn to in seeking solutions to our problems, and in turn are often the apparent sources of new problems. Thus it is not surprising that they have two aspects at the same time. CCTV has been presented to us as a technical solution to security problems. With the help of CCTV, we can more effectively prevent, detect, and prosecute crimes. With the help of CCTV, both public and private spaces can be made more secure. But of course, CCTV also has a down side. The down side most prominently anticipated has been loss of privacy and proliferation of surveillance. It is largely this potential problem with CCTV that has been regulated against. It is said that one reason for imposing a limitation on individual privacy is the societal interest in the prevention of crime. Accordingly a balance between the need to prevent crime through the use of CCTV and the duty to respect the privacy interests of individual citizens is in need of redress. In other hand, two theories of socio-political philosophy may have provided useful ways of understanding the role of CCTV in contemporary society. Firstly, neo-Marxist frameworks, for instance, stress the use of CCTV to police existing unequal socioeconomic divisions within society and the dominance of particular forms of order based upon materialist agendas. Secondly, Foucauldian frameworks contend that Foucault's notion of panoptic surveillance underpinning (self) disciplinary society is an appropriate template for understanding CCTV in late-modern society. In order to find a new point of valance between security and privacy in the use of CCTV, the participation of each citizen in the discourse to make the new norm is necessary. And to prevent its political misuse, their surveillance, or check for the potential surveillance-power is required.

  • This study examines the concepts and policy factors regarding gender-mainstreaming strategies and urban areas that have been discussed in the fields of international norms and development cooperation from the perspective of the Mexican government. It analyzes how gender-mainstreaming strategy is integrated and realized through Mexican law and key programs carried out by Mexico City. Through a literature review, this study builds upon previous research and theoretical discussions. In fact, Mexican federal government is considered to have successfully achieved "gender institutionalization." Within the framework of the law and institutions, the programs promoted by Mexico City aim to realize women's rights and meet their needs in the metropolis, while emphasizing a wider participation by citizens to realize these urban rights. In particular, the government of Mexico City is expanding on policies and programs that focus on strengthening the financial autonomy of women by understanding women's vulnerabilities as inequalities arising in the areas of the economy, space, and time.

  • This study shared with community mapping participants spatial analysis information, collected using smart devices, to give them an opportunity to objectively review their opinions. The study examined the impact of sharing such spatial information on residents' decision-making and perceptions. Yeongju-dong in Jung-gu district of Busan Metropolitan City, South Korea was selected for the case study; community mapping was carried out in Yeongju-dong to identify hazardous areas to improve pedestrian safety of primary school students. The community mapping participants drew a preliminary hazard map based on their experience and perception. Then, they drew a second hazard map after being given spatial information on pedestrian safety installations and pedestrian flow collected with smart devices including drones and sensors. Numerous changes in ranking across various sections occurred when the two maps were compared. There was a climb in the ranking of areas where the pedestrian flow was higher and lacked safety installations based on objective measurements over the perceptions of the participating people. Furthermore, according to a survey conducted among the participants, the provision of spatial analysis information using smart devices during community mapping process not only helped them recognize local community problems, but also raised their expectations that their submitted opinions would be reflected in policies. Moreover, the participants demonstrated increased self-confidence and faith in themselves as they were able to have more trust in the outcome they created.

While the elderly were participating in the Wholeness Program relevant to dementia behavior, they were measured two times in total, before and after the participation in dementia behavior. Based on SPSS-PC (version 21.0), firstly, independent t-test was carried out to understand the homogeneity between the experimental group and the control group. Secondly, matched-pair t-test was carried out between preliminary test and post-test to inquire into the effects of MMSE-K, K-MBI and GDS-K. Thirdly, ANOVA was conducted to confirm the variation (change amount) between preliminary test and post-test. According to the survey results, the Wholeness Program relevant to dementia behavior of the elderly shows overall effects in all spheres of changes of cognitive ability (MMSE-K), changes of physical capacity (K-MBI) and changes of depression level (GDS-K).

  • In this paper, the problems and betterment plan in operating district units plan are studied by selecting typal case locations based on the types of district units plan of the city of Busan. According to the types, 4 locations of 'type of maintaining preexisting district' and 3 of 'type of managing preexisting district' are selected as case locations, based on a scale and characteristics of each location. In systematical aspects of the case locations, indiscreet upward adjustment of the locations, insignificant participation of the citizens and patternization were recognized as problems. And setting accurate standards for target and range of alteration in line with usage plan of the locations would be necessarily urgent. So through the analysing process of the problems arisen from the case locations I would suggests necessary solutions to improve the effectiveness of the district units plan. And In planning aspects, the similarity between the basic directions and the object, batch-application of the density plan, inadequacy of the usage plan, allocations and patterns of structures, and color planning were recognized to have problematic points. Consequently distinguished specific operating-guidelines would be necessary to achieve the basic directions and the object of district units plan. Furthermore, the building-to-land ratio and floor space index are needed to be exactly calculated through providing accurate and logical standards for appropriate development density of structures.
