  • Combustion experiments are carried out to obtain the fundamental data for application of a internally circulating fluidized bed combustor to the combustion of paper sludge wastes. Experimental parameters are identified as secondary air ratio, sludge weight and water contents. The secondary air ratio was varied from 0 to 20% and water content was 14%, 25%, 35%, 45%, 62% and sludge weight was 30g, 60g, 90g. As a result, carbon conversion ratio was higher than injection of primary air. Emission of CO and NOx reduced with an increase of secondary air injection.

  • A new technology for refused derive fuel(RDF) utilization in circulating fluidized bed is under development. The RDF is tested in a bench scale circulating fluidized bed(CFB) combustor and its burning characteristics were investigated and collected as design parameters. The combustions were controllable and the HCl emission which is most important toxic emission were below 150 ppm at the exit of the combustor. The differences between conventional coal homing circulating fluidized bed boiler and the exclusive RDF boiler were studied and commercial scale co-generation CFB for RDF was designed.

  • In this study, the characteristics of the cement mortar replaced with fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag generated during circulating fluidized bed combustion method and pulverized coal combustion process were investigated. As a result of the study, when mixed with circulating fluidized bed combustor fly ash and pulverized coal combustion fly ash, it is advantageous not only in terms of strength development but also in terms of durability. The circulating fluidized bed combustor fly ash contributes to the improvement of initial reactivity, and the pulverized coal combustion fly ash is involved in long-term strength development through pozzolanic reaction. Therefore, it can be seen that the mixed use of circulating fluidized bed combustor fly ash and pulverized coal combustion fly ash acts as a complementary factor for cement mortar substituted with ground granulated blast furnace slag.

  • Combustion performance of an internally cycloned circulating fluidized bed for paper sludge was discussed through a series of batch type experiments. Operation parameters such as water content, feeding mass of sludge and secondary air injection rate were varied to find out the effect on the combustion performance, which was examined with carbon conversion rate and pollutant emission such as CO and NOx. A conventional solid fuel reaction was observed in the experiments of varying water content and feeding mass of the sludge, which is characterized with kinetic limited reaction zone, diffusion limited reaction zone and transition zone. Secondary air injection with swirl enhances the mixing of the gas phase as well as the solid phase, and improves combustion efficiency accompanied with higher carbon conversion rate and lower pollutant emission rate.

  • Co-incineration of coal and wastewater sludge was r;erfonn:rl in a O.lMWth bench scale circulating fluidized bed combustor(CFBC) Sludge was received from a wastewater treatment plant in a dye industrial complex in Busan. Metropolis. Moisture content of received sludge was 80%. Coal and sludge mixture was prepared with weight ratio of 90/10, 85/15 and 80/20. Co-combustion characteristics of the coal and sludge mixture demonstrated stable combustion conditions. Component analysis, incineration characteristics, boiler performance was measured before and after the test and application for commercial 59MWth CFBC boiler. The release of hazardous components such as $SO_2$ and Cl was suppressed by the presence of inherent minerals of Ca, Na, K in coal and sludge mixture. Pre-drying was not essential but it was recommended for the benefits of manageability of sludge.

  • The circulating fluidized bed boiler has an advantage that can burn a variety of fuels from low-grade fuel to coal. In this study, for the design of a circulating fluidized bed boiler using wood pellets, a circulating fluidized bed combustion test device using no external heater was manufactured and used. According to the increase of co-combustion rate with wood pellet, combustion fraction and heat flux by combustor height were measured and pollutant emission characteristics were analyzed. In terms of combustibility, the effect on primary and secondary air ratio were also studied. In addition, as a result of analysis of the effect of corrosive nanoparticles on the combustion of coal with wood pellets, it was confirmed that coal is mostly composed of Ca and S, whereas wood pellets are mostly composed of K, Cl, and Na.

  • A Circulating Fluidized-Bed (CFB) with an internal nozzle and a partition wall was proposed. The technique of fluidization is related to operations first used commercially in the fields of metallurgical and mechanical engineering such as the heat treatment of metals and power station combustors. In the modified CFB, an internal nozzle and a partition wall were additionally set in the main bed. This cold mode CFB apparatus made of acrylic resin; the main bed is 1,500mm high and 100mm in the inner diameter, the internal nozzle is 130mm high and 10mm in the inner diameter, and the partition wall is 7mm thick and 100mm in the diameter. Glass beads of $89{\mu}m$ in the mean diameter were employed as bed materials.

  • For the development of combustion technology of RDF(refuse derived fuel), combustion characteristics are examined in bubbling fluidized bed, circulating fluidized bed, continuos combustor and batch type combustor. The characteristics of combustion and exhaust gas has been compared and analyzed in many type of combustion facilities, which has been utilized as basic data for the advanced research of specified RDF combustion facility. Stable combustion has been observed in bubbling and circulating fluidized bed from controled operating condition like the proper feeding rate and superficial gas velocity. In circulating fluidized bed, concentration of NOx has been increased with the operating condition by the fuel-NO and oxygen reaction and $SO_2$ can be considered not to be produced in RDF fluidized bed from very low concentration in flue gas. HCl concentration is 36.4 ppm as average value and lower than standard emission value, but the counter plan is needed. Shaped RDF and fluff RDF have been compared in continuos combustor and batch type combustor and shaped RDF shows benefit for the stable heat recovery and gas emission shows similar value and characteristics.
