Microprocessor-based software DDA interpolator is developed and applied to two axis contouring control of X-Y table. Developed assembly program is composed of feedrate, linear and circular DDA interpolation routines. Reference-pulse type of open-loop stepping motor control system in which the micro-computer produces a sequence of reference pulses for each axis of motion is adopted. To test performance of the developed program, X-Y table drive system based on stepping motor and shaft encoder is designed. Conturing error of the system in linear and circular path is within .+-. 0.2mm under start stop pulse rate of stepping motor.
Small water leak experiment was carried out in liquid sodium atmosphere using a specimen of ferrite steel, which will be expected to be a material of the heat transfer tube of liquid metal fast breeder reactor. Self-plugging phenomena of leak path could be explained by the products of reaction and corrosion by sodium-water reaction. Also, re-opening mechanism of self-plugged path could be explained by the thermal transient and vibration of heat transfer tube. As a result, perfect re-opening time of self-plugged leak path was observed to be 129 minutes after water leak initiation. Re-opening shape of a specimen was appeared with double layer of circular type, and re-opening size of this specimen surface was about 2 mm diameter on sodium side.

In this paper, double ball-bar is used to estimate the geometric errors of a rotary table, which includes one-axial motion, two-radial motions and two-tilt motions, except the angular positioning error. To simplify the measurement procedures, three measurement steps have been designed and developed. At each measurement step, one end of the double ball-bar is fixed at the nose of spindle and the other end is located on the rotary table. And specific circular test path is planned to keep the distance between two balls as constant at ideal case. The relationship including the geometric errors of a rotary table and the measured distance between two balls which is distorted by the geometric errors is defined by using ball-bar equation. Each geometric error is modeled as $4^{th}$ order polynomial considering $C^1$-continuity. Finally the coefficients of polynomial are calculated by least-square method. Simulation is done to check the validation of the suggested method considering set-up errors and measurement noise. Suggested method is applied to estimate geometric errors of a rotary table of a 5-axis machine tool.

This paper presents the procedure of drag prediction for EAV-1, based on a numerical analysis correlated to an in-flight test. EAV-1, developed by Korea Aerospace Research Institute, is a small-sized UAV to test a hydrogen-fuel cell power system. The long-endurance test flight of 4.5 hours provides numerous in-flight data. The thrust and drag of EAV-1 during the flight test are estimated based on the wind-tunnel test results for EAV-1's propeller performance. In addition, the CFD analysis using a commercial Navier-Stokes code is carried out for the full-scale EAV-1. The computational result suggests that the initial CFD analysis substantially under-predicts the in-flight drag in that the discrepancy is up to 27.6%. Therefore, additional investigation for more accurate drag prediction is performed; the effect of propeller slipstream is included in the CFD analysis through "fan disk" modelling. Also, the additional drag from airplane trim and load factor that actually exists during the flight test in a circular path is considered. These supplemental analyses for drag prediction turn out to be effective since the drag discrepancy reduces to 2.3%.

This paper presents an algorithm for autonomous landing approach of a unmanned aerial vehicle. The main purpose of the autonomous landing approach in this study is to help a safe landing at night. From any initial position of the aircraft when this function is engaged, a flight path command is generated from the initial position. The shortest combination of an initial circular arc, a straight line segment, and a final circular arc is chosen for the flight path that will lead the aircraft to one end of runway for a landing. The algorithm is initially validated through numerous simulations with various initial conditions of aircraft. Then it is successfully validated through a number of flight tests.

The shell and tube heat exchanger is an essential part of a power plant for recovering transfer heat between the feed water of a boiler and the wasted heat. The baffles are also an important element inside the heat exchanger. Internal materials influence the flow pattern in the bed. The influence of baffles in the velocity profiles was observed using a three-dimensional PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) around baffles in a horizontal circular tube. The velocity of the particles was measured before the baffle and between them in the test tube. Results show that the velocity vectors near the front baffle flow along the vertical wall, and then concentrate on the upper opening of the front baffle. The velocity profiles circulate in the front and rear baffle. These profiles are related to the Reynolds number (Re) or the flow intensity. Velocity profiles at lower Re number showed complicated mixing to obtain the velocities and concentrate on the lower opening of the rear baffle as front wall. Numerical simulations were performed to investigate the effects of the baffle and obtain the velocity profiles between the two baffles. In this study, a commercial CFD package, Fluent 6.3.21 with the turbulent flow modeling, k-${\epsilon}$ are adopted. The path line and local axial velocities are calculated between two baffles using this program.
In this study, road transportation tests were conducted with surrogate fuel assemblies under normal conditions of transport to evaluate the vibration and shock load characteristics of spent nuclear fuel (SNF). The overall test data analysis was conducted based on the measured acceleration and strain data obtained from the speed bump, lane-change, deceleration, obstacle avoidance, and circular tests. Furthermore, representative shock response spectrums and power spectral densities of each test mode were acquired. Amplification or attenuation characteristics were investigated according to the load transfer path. The load attenuated significantly as it transferred from the trailer to the cask. By contrast, the load amplified as it transferred from the cask to the surrogate SNF assembly. The fuel loading location on the cask disk assembly did not exhibit a significant influence on the strain measured from the fuel rods. The principal strain was in the vertical direction, and relatively large strain values were obtained in spans with large spacing between spacer grids. The influence of the lateral location of fuel rods was also investigated. The fuel rods located at the side exhibited relatively large strain values than those located at the center. Based on the strain data obtained from the test results, a hypothetical road transportation scenario was established. A fatigue evaluation of the SNF rod was performed based on this scenario. The evaluation results indicate that no fatigue damage occurred on the fuel rods.

Contouring errors are important especially for high speed and precision machining. In this study, contouring errors along contours having inflection points are studied. When a table of a machine tool moves along a circular path, acceleration acts toward the center of the circle. Thus, at inflection points, acceleration as well as inertia force changes its direction abruptly. The effect of inertia force on the contouring error is investigated in this study. It is found that the contouring error at an inflection point is proportional to the acceleration. This result can be useful in determining contouring errors along general paths.

In this study, we developed for processing complex features using CAM software that satisfies precision for example practice and related qualification tests suiTable for CNC training purposes. In addition, functions such as location control, speed control, and processing path generation, which are the main functions of CNC machining machines, were constructed using small equipment parts, servo motors, inverters, general purpose PCs, and commercial NC software and researched with the goal of developing low-cost education equipment. In the static accuracy inspection, the degree of machine when measuring the parallelism of the X, Y and Z axes and the vibration of the main shaft did not reach the allowable value. However, we have obtained a finished product that satisfies the CNC machine book sample shape machining, detailed functions of the position control function of the CNC machine tool, linear interpolation function, circular interpolation function, and tool offset function. In the qualification test shape processing, a shape with a degree of 1/100 mm was processed to obtain position accuracy that satisfied the tolerance.

KITECH and ODS performed a study of internal and external noise prediction of the Korean high speed prototype test train(HSR 350X). The object of this study was 3 kinds of cars, trailer car(TT2), motorized car(TMI ) and power car(TPI) and the predicted noise was for the two different driving speeds in free field and tunnel conditions. Data of carbody design and noise sources were delivered from manufactures. Some of noise sources which were not available in the project team, were chosen by experiences of ODS. Internal noise level of each car was predicted for two cases i.e, at 300 km/h and 350 km/h. In addition sound transmission path and dominant noise sources were also investigated for each section of the car, which is circular shell typed part of whole carbody. In case of TT2, the dominating sound transmission path is the (floor in terms of structure-borne noise and air-borne noise. The main noise sources are structure-borne noise from the yaw-damper and air-borne noise from the wheel/rail contact, whereas the dominating sound transmission path of TMI are floor and sidewall below the window in terms of structure-borne noise. The main noise sources of TMI are structure-borne noise from motor/gear unit and the yaw-damper in the free field, and air-borne noise from the wheel/rail contact and structure-borne noise from motor/gear unit in the tunnel. Through the external noise prediction for the KHST test train formation, the noise form the wheel/rail contact is estimated as one of the major sources. In addition, the noise specification of sub-component was proposed for managing each sub-surpplier to reach the KHST noise requirement. The specification provide the sound power of machinery part and transmission loss of component of carbody structure. The predicted noise level in each case exceeded the required limit. Through this study, the noise characteristics of the test train were investigated by simulation, and then the actual test will be performed in near future. Both measured and calculated data will be compared and further work for noise reduction will be continued.
