Hemolytic reaction of normal fresh chicken serum on sheep erythrocytes was studied and the following experimental results were obtained and summarized. 1. Chicken sera, 258 (78%) out of 344 samples showed hemolytic activity on sheep erythrocytes. 2. Distribution of a different hemolytic titer of chicken sera was not dependent to sex and age difference of test chicken. 3. Hemolytic activity of serum component obtained from normal fresh chicken was heat inactivated at $56^{\circ}C$. 30 minutes heating. 4. The most enhanced hemolytic activity of chicken serum on sheep erythrocytes was observed at the incubation temperature of $46^{\circ}C$. 5. The most effective pH for the hemolytic reaction of chicken serum on sheep erythrocytes was observed at 7.0, and pH 6.0 or 8.5 resulted less or no hemolysis. 6. Hemolytic reaction of chicken serum and sheep erythrocytes required Mg⧻ and Ca⧻ ions as, co-factor, and the former was required more compared to the latter. 7. Hemolytic activity of chicken serum was observed in ChC 2, 4 fraction but not in ChC 1, 3, ChC 3, 4, ChC 1, 2, 4 and ChC 1, 2, 3 fractions. 8. In electron micrography, morphological changes of sheep erythrocyte membrane by normal chicken serum was similar to that of immune hemolysis: that was, the hemolytic hole was circular and it was surrounded with a white ring. 9. Electron micrography of morphological changes on sheep erythrocyte membrane indicated that the size of hemolytic hole and white ring were functional to the chicken serum concentration used and reaction time.

Inherent damage zone model is presented to explain the fatigue properties near the fatigue limit and the crack growth threshold consistently Inherent damage zone model assumes that the stress at a point which is located at a small distance, $r_0$, an inherent length of the material that represents the size of effective damage zone, from the crack initiation position governs the fatigue characteristics regardless of the geometric configuration of the specimen; smooth specimen, notched specimen or cracked specimens with short and long crack length. A special feature of the paper is using the exact stress distributions of notched and cracked specimens at the strength evaluations. Analytical elastic solutions by Neuber and Westergaard are employed for this purpose Relationship between fatigue limit of smooth specimen and threshold stress of cracked specimen, occurrence condition of non-propagating crack at the root of elliptic notch and circular hole and relationship between stress concentration factor and fatigue notch factor are discussed quantitatively based on the proposed model.

The evaluation process of rock mass properties intrinsically contains some uncertainty due to the inhomogeneity of rock mass and the measurement error. Although various empirical methods for the determination of rock mass properties were suggested, there is no way of integrating various information on rock mass properties except averaging. For these reasons, this research introduces evidence theory which can model epistemic uncertainty and yield reasonable rock mass properties through combining various information such as empirical equations, in-situ test results, and so on. Through the application of evidence theory to the real site investigation and in situ experiment results, an interval of deformation modulus, cohesion and friction angle of rock mass were obtained. The ratios between lower and upper bound of those properties ranges from 1.6 to 3.6. Numerical analyses of circular hole using the properties for TYPE-2 rock mass were carried out. The magnitude or size of plastic region and radial displacement in case of lower bound properties is about 4 times larger than that of upper bound properties.
In this paper, a finite element analysis based on the local approach concept to fracture in the continuum damage mechanics is performed to analyze ductile fracture in two dimensional quasi-static state. First an isotropic damage model based on the generalized concept of effective stress is proposed for structural materials in the context of large deformation. In this model, the stiffness degradation is taken as a measure of damage and so, the fracture phenomenon can be explained as the critical deterioration of stiffness at a material point. The modified Riks' continuation technique is used to solve incremental iterative equations. Crack propagation is achieved by removing critically damaged elements. The mesh size sensitivity analysis and the simulation of the well known shearing mode failure in plane strain state are carried out to verify the present formulation. As numerical examples, an edge cracked plate and the specimen with a circular hole under plane stress are taken. Load-displacement curves and successively fractured shapes are shown. From the results, it can be concluded that the proposed model based on the local approach concept in the continuum damage mechanics may be stated as a reasonable tool to explain ductile fracture initiation and crack propagation.

A multi-perforated tube indicates the existence of multiple holes of various shapes on the surface of a long cylinder-type or rectangular tube, and a hole installed on the surface is called an orifice, as it is relatively small in size, compared with the surface area of the tube. In this study, the flow characteristics of a circular multi-perforated tube with many orifices on the surface were investigated experimentally and numerically. The volume flowrate issuing from each orifice, discharge angle, effective flow area ratio, and the flow fields around the orifices were measured and visualized, with the variation of the orifice area ratio, at the same blockage ratio. The volume flowrate distributions along the flow direction of the multi-perforated tube tends to be more uniform, as larger orifices were positioned at the inlet side of the multi-perforated tube, compared with no orifice area change along the flow direction.
A plunge pool is often employed as an energy-dissipating device at the end of a spillway or a pipe culvert. A jet from spillways or pipes frequently generates a scour hole which threatens the stability of the hydraulic structure. Existing scour prediction formulas of plunge pool of spillways or pipe culverts give a wide range of scour depths, and it is, therefore, difficult to accurately predict those scour depths. In this study, a new experimental method and new scour prediction formulas under submerged circular jet for large bed materials with shallow tailwater depths were developed. A major variale, which was not used in previous scour prediction equations, was the ratio of jet size to bed material size. In this study, jet momentum acting on a bed particle and jet diffustion theory were employed to derive scour prediction formulas. Four theoretical formulas were suggested for the two regions of jet diffusion, i.e., the region of flow establishment and the region of established flow. The semi-theoretically developed scour prediction formulas showed close agreement with laboratory experiments performed on a movable bed made of large spherical particles.
Small water leak experiment was carried out in liquid sodium atmosphere using a specimen of ferrite steel, which will be expected to be a material of the heat transfer tube of liquid metal fast breeder reactor. Self-plugging phenomena of leak path could be explained by the products of reaction and corrosion by sodium-water reaction. Also, re-opening mechanism of self-plugged path could be explained by the thermal transient and vibration of heat transfer tube. As a result, perfect re-opening time of self-plugged leak path was observed to be 129 minutes after water leak initiation. Re-opening shape of a specimen was appeared with double layer of circular type, and re-opening size of this specimen surface was about 2 mm diameter on sodium side.
A color filter was demonstrated incorporating a patterned metal grating in a quartz substrate. The filter is created in a metal layer perforated with a symmetric two-dimensional array of circular holes, with the pitch smaller than the wavelength of the visible light. A finite-difference time-domain simulation was performed to analyze the device by investigating the effect of structural parameters like the grating height, the period, the hole size, and the refractive index of the hole-filling material on its performance. The device performance was especially optimized by controlling the refractive index of the material comprising the holes of the grating. And two different devices were fabricated by means of the e-beam direct writing with the following design parameters: the grating height of 50 nm, the two pitches of 340 nm for the red color and 260 nm for the green color. For the prepared device with the period of 340 nm, the center wavelength was 680 nm and the peak transmission 57%. And for the other device with the pitch of 260 nm, the center wavelength was 550 nm and the peak transmission was 50%. The filling of the hole with a material whose refractive index is matched to that of the substrate has led to an increase of ${\sim}15%$ in the transmission efficiency.
The Geumganasa Temple site two Ridege-end tiles at the Buyeo National Museum(The Buyeo2150-1 and 2150-2, hereinafter referred to as 2150-1 and 2150-2) were excavated the Geumgangsa Temple site. They provide important materials for investigating the shapes and production techniques of the ridge-end tiles of the time since their lower portions remain relatively intact. This study is intended to examine whether the two ridge-end tiles were identical. Conservation treatment, including removal of foreign substances, was conducted in preparation for observation with the naked eye to compare the formal features and production techniques of the two examples. The study revealed that these ridge-end tiles shared formal features such as surface color, clay composition, shape, size, and decoration; however, they differed in terms of production technique. The 2150-1 tile was made by assembling a separately-made body and wing and has no hole through the back, while the 2150-2 tile had its body and wing made as a single unit using long clay plates and features circular holes in the back. It was revealed that one portion of the body of both tiles was intentionally tilted during the production process.

The stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) describes a method of delivering a high dose of radiation to a small tar-get volume in the brain, generally in a single fraction, while the dose delivered to the surrounding normal tissue should be minimized. To perform automatic plan of the SRS, a new method of multi-isocenter/shot linear accelerator (linac) and gamma knife (GK) radiosurgery treatment plan was developed, based on a physical lattice structure in target. The optimal radiosurgical plan had been constructed by many beam parameters in a linear accelerator or gamma knife-based radiation therapy. In this work, an isocenter/shot was modeled as a sphere, which is equal to the circular collimator/helmet hole size because the dimension of the 50% isodose level in the dose profile is similar to its size. In a computer-aided system, it accomplished first an automatic arrangement of multi-isocenter/shot considering two parameters such as positions and collimator/helmet sizes for each isocenter/shot. Simultaneously, an irregularly shaped target was approximated by cubic structures through computation of voxel units. The treatment planning method by the technique was evaluated as a dose distribution by dose volume histograms, dose conformity, and dose homogeneity to targets. For irregularly shaped targets, the new method performed optimal multi-isocenter packing, and it only took a few seconds in a computer-aided system. The targets were included in a more than 50% isodose curve. The dose conformity was ordinarily acceptable levels and the dose homogeneity was always less than 2.0, satisfying for various targets referred to Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) SRS criteria. In conclusion, this approach by physical lattice structure could be a useful radiosurgical plan without restrictions in the various tumor shapes and the different modality techniques such as linac and GK for SRS.
