Antifouling Activity of Coumarin and its Derivatives Isolated from the Cinnamon Tree Cinnamomum loureiroi (계피식물(Cinnamomum loureiroi)에서 분리한 coumarin과 유도체의 방오효과)

  • The active antifouling compounds coumarin and its derivatives were isolated from the cinnamon tree Cinnamomum loureiroi. The antifouling activities were determined using representative soft fouling organisms: the seaweed Ulvapertusa and diatom Navicula annexa. The chemical constituents with antifouling activities were identified as coumarin, hydroxylcoumarin, coumaric acid, and cinnamaldehyde by interpreting nuclear magnetic resonance, and high-resolution mass spectroscopy data. These compounds were isolated from 1.09 g of crude Cinnamomum sp. methanol extract, yielding approximately 18.4, 6.3, 9.8, and 14.7 mg of coumarin, hydroxylcoumarin, coumaric acid, and cinnamaldehyde, respectively. The compounds inhibited U. pertusa zoospores with $EC_{50}$ values of $0.13-0.25{\mu}g/mL$, and the diatom N. annexa with $EC_{50}$ of $0.21-0.81{\mu}g/mL$.

The Activity of Anti-oxidation of Cinnamomum loureiroi Extract (Cinnamomum loureiroi 추출물의 항산화 활성)

  • In this study, activity of anti-oxidation of Cinnamomum loureiroi extract (CLE). In order to measure anti-oxidation effect of CLE, phenol content of CLE, radical scavenging activity of ABTS and DPPH, and decrease of ROS production. Before the experiment, against Raw 264.7 cell, a cytotoxicity was measured and the result showed no toxicity. CLE's total polyphenol amount was 397.7±8.3 mg/g and the total flavonoid amount was 101.899±0.885 mg/g. As a measurement result of ABTS radical scavenging ability and DPPH radical scavenging ability, radical scavenging ability increased depends on the concentration. CLE's effect on the ROS creation was checked and the result showed that CLE suppressed ROS creation by showing a meaningful decrease of ROS generation. From all of the results, CLE is know to have an antioxidant effect. These results will be provided as fundamental data for further development of the new material of functional cosmetics to the results above.

Ameliorating Effects of Cinnamomum loureiroi and Rosa laevigata Extracts Mixture against Trimethyltin-induced Learning and Memory Impairment Model (트리메틸틴 처리로 유도된 기억·학습 능력 손상 모델에 대한 계피와 금앵자 혼합추출물의 개선 효과)

  • Background: A critical features of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is cognitive dysfunction, which partly arises from decreased in acetylcholine levels. AD afftected brains are characterized by extensive oxidative stress, which is thought to be primarily induced by the amyloid beta ($A{\beta}$) peptide. In a previous study, Cinnamomum loureiroi tincture inhibited acetylcholinesterase (AchE) activity. That study identified AChE inhibitor in the C. loureiroi extract. Furthermore, the C. loureiroi extract enhanced memory in a trimethyltin (TMT)-induced model of cognitive dysfunction, as assessed via two behavioral tests. Rosa laevigata extract protected against oxidative stress-induced cytotoxicity. Administrating R. laevigata extracts to mice significantly reversed $A{\beta}$-induced learning and memory impairment, as shown in behavioral tests. Methods and Results: We conducted behavioral to examine the synergistic effects of C. loureiroi and R. laevigata extracts in inhibiting AChE and counteracting TMT-induced learning and memory losses. We also performed biochemical assays. The biochemical results showed a relationship between increased oxidative stress and cholinergic neurons damage in TMT-treated mice. Conclusions: A diet containing C. loureiroi and R. laevigata extracts ameliorated learning and memory impairments in the Y-maze and passive avoidance tests, and exerted synergistic inhibitory effect against AChE and lipid peroxidation.
