Objectives : This study aimed to introduce a new sacral lumbar joint distraction technique in the prone position in Chuna manual therapy for effective lumbar distraction. Methods : The patient was placed in the prone position. Next, clinicians contacted the sacrum and L1, L2, L3, L4 and L5 spinal processes. Then they were pulled in the direction of the head and leg respectively while pressing down with 30% force to maintain the lumbar lordosis. This is a more effective and safer lumbar distraction technique according to the latest knowledge. Conclusions : This technique can be used for lumbar disc herniation in addition to relaxing the existing lumbar muscles, and is suggested to be used as a safe and effective Chuna manual therapy.

This study is to observe the effect of Korean medicine treatment combined with electro-acupuncture and chuna manual treatment on tarsal tunnel syndrome inpatient. The patient, diagnosed as tarsal tunnel syndrome, was treated by Korean medicine treatment in combination with electro-acupuncture and chuna manual treatment. We measured visual analogue scale(VAS). Neuropathic pain scale(NPS) was adopted as a method of measuring the treatment results of pain & hypoesthesia. Rt. sole numbness & pain decreased from VAS 10 to VAS 4. Rt. foot paresthesia decreased from VAS 10 to VAS 4 and Rt. ankle pain was disappeared. NPS score decreased from 80 to 62. Korean medicine treatment in combination with electro-acupuncture and chuna manual treatment is proved to be helpful to improve the symptoms of the tarsal tunnel syndrome patient.

Background : Charcot Marie Tooth disease can cause muscle weakness and foot deformity. Ankle pain induced by foot deformity affect patients' gait pattern and quality of life. Objectives : The purpose of this study is to evaluate the traditional Korean medicine treatment for ankle pain induced with Charcot-Marie Tooth Disease, especially Chuna manual therapy on ankle joints. Methods : One patient was treated with acupuncture, phamacopuncture, herbal medication and chuna manual therapy on ankle joints. To evaluate the pain of ankle, lower back and lower extremity, visual analog scale(VAS) was measured. Results : After treatment for 5 week, the pain of ankle joint was declined from VAS 6 to VAS 2. Conclusions : Traditional Korean medicine treatment including acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, herbal medication and Chuna manual therapy is effective for ankle pain with foot deformity. But further studies are required to prove the effectiveness of Chuna manual therapy on ankle joints.

Objectives A case report is a detailed medical description of previously unreported observations or complications of medical conditions, unique use cases of tests, or new side effects. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the quality of case reports published in the Journal of Korea CHUNA Manual Medicine for Spine & Nerves (JKCMSN). Methods Case reports published in the JKCMSN from January 2013 to December 2020 were selected using the Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System (OASIS). The quality of the reports was assessed based on the Consensus-based Clinical Case Reporting Guideline Development (CARE) guidelines. Results Sixty case reports that met the inclusion criteria were included in the assessment. Our analysis revealed that 71.42% of the case reports included all the necessary information and their level of reporting was good. However, their scores in the qualitative subdivisions of the reporting level parameters showed that the quality level was uneven. More than 65% of the papers did not report in the following categories: "Keywords," "Patient information," "Timeline," "Diagnostic assessment," "Therapeutic interventions," "Follow-up and outcomes," "Patient perspective," and "Informed consent." Conclusions Our analysis shows that CARE guidelines need to be followed more rigorously to improve the quality of reporting in the JKCMSN. Further efforts are necessary to develop reporting guidelines and evaluation tools relevant to the Korean clinical context.

This study reports the effectiveness of Korean medicine and Chuna manual therapy on patients with De Quervain's tenosynovitis. Two patients were treated with Chuna manual therapy, electro-acupuncture, moxibustion therapy. We used numeric rating scale (NRS), Finkelstein's test, sonography to measure changes during treatment. After each treatment, NRS, Finkelstein's test, sonography outcome were improved. Korean medicine including Chuna manual therapy can be effectively used to improve De Quervain's tenosynovitis. This study may suggest that korean medicine including Chuna manual therapy can be effective for De Quervain's tenosynovitis.

Objectives To introduce a case of a traffic accident trauma in a patient with lumbar kyphosis and straightened lumbar curvature, where the Korean medicine treatment with Chuna manual therapy (CMT) improved lumbar lordotic angle(LLA) and lower back pain. Methods Chuna manual therapy and other Korean medicine treatments; were provided to patient with a flat back posture and low back pain due to the trauma from a traffic accident. Cobb's angle to evaluate LLA and numeric rating scale (NRS) to evaluate pain were compared before and after the treatment. Results There was a significant increase in LLA to reach the normal range and a decrease in low back pain NRS after Korean medicine treatment with CMT for 9 days of admission treatment and 3 weeks of outpatient treatment. Conclusions This study suggests that Korean medicine treatment, including CMT, may improve low back pain as well as LLA of straightened lumbar curvatures in patients.

Objectives : To verify Korean Medicinal Combination Treatments for patients who have Failed Back Surgery Syndrome along with scoliosis Methods : We used Acupuncture, Chuna manual therapy, Pharmacoacupuncture, Herbal medication. We measured Numeral Rating Sacle(NRS), Pain-Free walking distance(PFWD) and Oswestry Disability Index(ODI) score to evaluate the treatment effects. Results : Patients' LBP & Rt.leg pain NRS, PFWD and ODI score were improved. Conclusions : Traditional Korean medicine can be effective for FBSS patients along with scoliosis.

Objective : There is no case report on the ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament(OPLL) treated by CHUNA manual therapy in oriental medicine. We experienced a patient(32-year-old female) with OPLL improved by CHUNA manual therapy in X-ray image and visual analogue scale(VAS), and we report it clinically. Methods : During the patient with OPLL was treated CHUNA manual therapy, acupuncture, and physical therapy, we examined cervical X-ray, CT and Moire topography and evaluated the patient's symptoms by VAS. And we observed whether the changes exist or not in X-ray and VAS. Results : VAS in symptoms was improved significantly(p<0.05), and the radiologic X-ray image in OPLL patient was improved. Conclusion : OPLL was generally treated conservative treatment and operation in severe case. But CHUNA manual therapy may be more effective in conservative treatment of OPLL, if more clinical studies and reaches are accomplished.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the safety, injury mechanism, complication and adverse reactions associated with Chuna manual theraphy(CMT), to report one case of adverse reaction with Thai Massage(TM). Methods: A 76-year-old woman presented with chest pain and dorsalgia. The patient undertook a TM. The patient's chest pain didn't improve by Korean medecine. In MRI study, sternal fracture was diagnosed. Results and Conclusions : It is supposed that this patient suffered chest pain and dorsalgia due to a TM. From this case, we can understand the etiology of sternal fracture to some extent and consider the complication of Chuna manual theraphy through TM. In addition, This study raises the awareness of the possibility of a sternal fracture caused by a low-energy CMT technique.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to review the effectiveness of Chuna manual therapy for the treatment of tension type headache(TTH). Methods : All processes were independently carried out by three investigators. Literature search was performed in 3 databases(pubmed, OASIS, NDSL) from their inception to May 2016. Searched reports was twice excluded for title, abstract and body. And then, data extract and analysis was done before assessing risk of bias by Cochrane Handbook. Results : 11 RCT were included. Generally, Fascia Chuna therapy and Chuna spine & joint manipulation therapy were used for TTH. Except for 1 report, Chuna manual therapy was shown to be effective in treating TTH. In assessing risk of bias, because of the characteristic of intervention, blinding of participants was high risk of bias in most reports. Conclusions : Chuna manual therapy was shown to be effective in treating TTH. In korea, better designed trials with high quality is needed from now on.
