Objectives This case study aimed to investigate the effect of complex Korean medicine treatment including Chuna manual therapy on sacroiliac joint (SIJ) pain status post SIJ fusion with sacroiliac screw fixation. Methods Complex Korean medicine treatments including Chuna manual therapy were provided to patients with SIJ widening due to a traffic accident trauma. Measurement of range of motion and manual muscle test to evaluate functional activities of daily living was conducted before and after treatment. Moreover, outcome estimates were performed using the numeric rating scale, pain disability index, and EuroQol 5-dimension five-level questionnaire. Results After complex treatment, functional activities of daily living improved. Sacroiliac joint pain decreased and the quality-of-life score improved. Conclusions This study suggests that treatment with complex Korean medicine treatment including Chuna manual therapy may improve traumatic SIJ widening status post SIJ fusion. A postoperative rehabilitation protocol based on accumulated research results considering a multidisciplinary approach should be prepared to ensure holistic treatment.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to report the clinical results of various medical methods (including Chuna joint mobilization) used to treat a single patient with polyneuritis. Methods : We treated a 46 year-old female patient diagnosed with polyneuritis using various methods, including acupuncture, moxibustion, infrared therapy, herbal medication, Western medication, Chuna manual therapy, and physical therapy. We evaluated the results using the numeric rating scale (NRS), manual muscle test (MMT), active range of motion (ROM), modified barthel index (MBI). Other evaluation scale included Deep tendon reflex and thickness of muscle especially forearm and lower leg. Results : Following treatment using a combination of the above methods, the general overall condition of the patients was significantly improved. Furthermore, the NRS, MMT, MBI, and the active ROM scores were numerically improved. Conclusions : In this case, a single patient with polyneuritis was treated using a combination of Korean and Western medical methods. Although this study provides useful insight into treatment methods, further studies are required to determine the treatment effects of Korean medicine, specifically Chuna manual therapy, in patients with polyneuritis.

Objectives To determine the effectiveness of Chuna manual therapy combined acupuncture for trigeminal neuralgia. Methods We searched 6 electronic databases (Pubmed, CAJ, Oasis, RISS, DBPIA, KoreanTK) and 2 journals up to August 2016. We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) using Chuna manual therapy combined acupuncture for trigeminal neuralgia. The methodological quality of each RCT was assessed by the Cochrane risk of bias tool. Results 3 RCT studies were eligible in our review. The meta-analysis of 3 studies showed favorable results for the use of Chuna manual therapy combined acupuncture. High risk of bias were observed in all studies. Conclusions Although there are favorable results with meta-analysis, our systematic review are highly dependent on the single source of Chinese electrical database, CAJ. Now limited evidence is available to support Chuna manual therapy combined acupuncture for trigeminal neuralgia and further well-designed RCTs should be encouraged.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to offer a new approach to diagnostic X-ray in perspective of Chuna manual medicine for clinical application. Methods : Characteristics of each malposition in X-ray were analyzed comprehensively, based on the listing system. By verifying these results, find out the methods of X-ray diagnosis according to the each malposition. Results : 1. Vertebral malposition can be explained by alignment and relative position of vertebral body in the X-ray. To obtain more accurate estimation of subluxation, features of other structures should be considered, such as spinous process, intervertebral foramen and disc space. 2. Pelvic malposition can be determined by relative location of anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS) and posterior superior iliac spine (PSIS) in the X-ray. Also other pelvic parameters should be utilized to make a diagnosis of sacral malposition. Conclusions : Diagnostic X-ray should be applied to many clinicians for reasonable Chuna manual medicine application. And further studies are needed to use the diagnostic X-ray in the perspective of Chuna manual medicine.

Objectives : The present study examines indications and treatment techniques of Chuna manual therapy. Methods : We searched the clinical studies on Chuna manual therapy through 5 korean web databases, 2 journals.(key word 'chuna') After selecting appropriate clinical studies(Bongchuna, massage, side effect, contraindication are excepted), we analyzed them according to diseases, Chuna techniques, type of clinical trials. Results : 101 studies are selected and analyzed. They studied about cervical(26%), thoracic(12%), lumbar (29%)spinal disorders, temporomandibular joint disorders(4%), pelvic region disorders(4%), upper(6%), lower extremity(5%) disorders and other diseases(15%). Spinal disorders are studied frequently. Mild techniques like supine position both hand cervical spine flexion distraction, JS supine position cervical spine distraction, flexion distraction technique are used more frequently than adjustment by thrust. Conclusions : We have to enhance education and training about techniques that are frequently used and studied. Research and improvement of infrequently used techniques are needed. In-depth research about side effects and contraindication is needed. Highquality clinical research and systematic review should be needed to prove the therapeutic effect of Chuna treatment.

Objective : The objective of this study is to report the effect of Korean Rehabilitation Treatment with CHUNA Manual Therapy and Exercise Therapy on Postoperative Anterior Cruciate Ligament rupture of knee. Methods : Two patients were treated by Korean Rehabilitation with CHUNA Manual Therapy and Exercise Therapy at knee. We evaluated the effectiveness by Visual Analog Scale(VAS) and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index(WOMAC) and Range of motion(ROM) Results : Both patients had significant improvement on Knee ROM, VAS score and WOMAC index. Also physical examination of Knee was improved. Conclusions : This study showed that Korean Rehabilitation Treatment with CHUNA Manual Therapy and Exercise Therapy has meaningful effect on Postoperative of anterior cruciate ligament rupture of knee. But there is a limit on this study due to sufficient number of cases. Further studies will be needed.

Objectives This study is to investigate domestic trends of chuna manual therapy on traffic accident for recent 10 years. Methods We searched the studies on chuna manual therapy for traffic accident in 6 Korean web databases. Consequently, 17 research papers were founded. We analyzed these papers according to their published year, the titles of journal, the type of study, the number of cases, the sites of injury, assessment scales of study, and ethics of research. Results 17 papers were published since 2005. The studies on chuna manual therapy about traffic accident were mainly published in the journal of korean society of chuna manual medicine for spine & nerves and the journal of korean medicine rehabilitation. All papers were clinical research include 2 case series, 2 non randomized controlled trials (NRCTs), 13 randomized controlled trials (RCTs). The most frequently occured symptom was neck pain. In assessment scales, visual analog scale (VAS) was mainly used. All clinical studies were not mentioned about approval of institutional review board (IRB). Conclusions In this study, we analyzed the trends of chuna manual therapy on traffic accident in Korea from 2005 to 2014. In reviewing published papers, we found several weak points in methods of research and quality of study protocol. It is needed to adjust these problems for development of future researches.

Objectives : This study was designed to observe the effect of Chuna manual therapy on the asymmetrical alignment. Methods : To analyze static structural alignment, posterior inferior ilium deviation(PI), inflare change of pelvis were checked from full spine AP X-ray. And Cobb's angle of spine and height of shoulder girdle were analyzed. To evaluate the pain visual analogue score(VAS) was scored. Chuna therapy treated 8-10 times for 1 month. Results and Conclusions : In 3 cases, VAS was improved significantly. Full spine AP X-ray shows improvement of structural imbalace. Shoulder height difference, cobb's angle, pelvic insufficiency improved considerably. These results suggest that Chuna therapy might be effective for malalignment patients.
