The effects of heat treatment on fatigue crack growth rates (FCGRs) of Inconel 690 have been investigated in terms of carbide morphology and grain size. Cycling tests in air at room temperature have shown that FCGR in low stress intensity factor range (ΔK) region can be effectively reduced by increasing the grain boundary carbide precipitate size and grain size. Decrease in FCGR is attributed to the crack tip blunting at the precipitates of grain boundary chromium carbides.
Cobalt-chromium alloys are used to fabricate various dental prostheses, and have advantages of low cost and excellent mechanical properties compared to other alloys. Recently, selective laser melting, which is an additive manufacturing method, has been used to overcome the disadvantages of the conventional fabrication method. A local rapid heating and cooling process of selective laser melting induces fine microstructures, grain refinement, and reduction of porosities of the alloys. Therefore, it can improve mechanical properties compared to the alloys fabricated by the conventional method. On the other hand, layering process and rapid heating and cooling cause accumulation of a large amount of residual stresses that can adversely affect the mechanical properties. A heat treatment for removing residual stresses through recovery and recrystallization process caused complicated changes in mechanical properties induced by phase transformation, precipitate and homogenization of the microstructures. The purpose of this review was to compare the manufacturing methods of Co-Cr alloys and to investigate the characteristics of Co-Cr alloys fabricated by selective laser melting.
The precipitate flotation using $La(OH)_3$ as a coprecipitant was studied for the simultaneous determination of trace three elements in a sea water. Several experimental conditions such as pH, coprecipitant and surfactant were investigated with an artificial sea water. To remove the influence of Cr(VI) the Cr(VI) was reduced to Cr(III) using $NaBH_4$ prior to the flotation. Trace amounts of Cu(II), Co(II) and total Cr in 1.0 l sea water was coprecipitated together with the precipitation of $La(OH)_3$ in the solution of pH 9.8 adjusted with 3.OM NaOH solution. The precipitate was floated by using a mixed surfactant (1 to 8 of each 0.5% ethanolic sodium oleate and sodium dodecylsulfate solution) by bubbling a nitrogen gas. The floats was separated and filtrated from the mother liquor by suction. The precipitate was dissolved in 7.0 M $HNO_3$ solution and then marked to 25.0 ml with a deionized water. These elements were determined by graphite fumace atomic absorption spectrophotometry. This method was applied to determine the elements in the sea water of the Eastern and Western coasts. And the recoveries were over 90.0% in the samples into which given amounts of the analyte elements were spiked.

In this study, the metallurgical analysis and mechanical property measurement have been performed to investigate the effect of long-term thermal aging on the microstructural evolution in the fusion boundary region between weld metal and low alloy steel in dissimilar metal welds. A representative dissimilar weld mock-up made of Alloy 690-Alloy 152-A533 Gr. B was fabricated and aged at $450^{\circ}C$ for 2,750 hours. The microstructural characterization was conducted mainly near in a weld root region by using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy. And the mechanical properties were measured with Vickers microhardness test and nanoindentation method. A steep gradient was shown in the chemical composition profile across the interface between A533 Gr. B and Alloy 152. Type-II boundaries were found in weld side of DMW and the hardness was the highest at the narrow zone between Type-II boundary and fusion boundary.

To investigate the effect of long-term thermal aging on the microstructural and mechanical characteristics of weldment made of nickel base alloy and its weld metal, an accelerated heat treatment was applied to simulate the process of long-term thermal aging in the operating condition of nuclear power plant. A representative nickel-based weldment with Alloy 600 and Alloy 182 was fabricated and heat-treated at $400^{\circ}C$ for 1,713 h and 3,427 h to simulate the thermal aging for the period equivalent to 15 and 30 years in operating pressurized water reactors, respectively. The microstructural and mechanical characteristics were analyzed by using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and Vickers microhardness measurement. Changes were observed in precipitation behavior and microhardness of each specimen, and these changes were mainly attributed to the change in precipitated morphology and residual stress across the weld during the thermal aging process.
Electrochemical potentiokinetic reactivation (EPR) tests are used to evaluate the degree of sensitization (DOS) of stainless steels and nickel base alloys. The validity of EPR test to detect DOS of these alloys, however, depends all the electrolyte composition employed. The existence of precipitates such as NbC, and TiC, etc. in the alloys also affects the reactivation behaviors of these alloys. In this investigation, the reactions involved during EPR processes are analyzed. In 0.5 M $H_2SO_4$+ 0.01 M KSCN electrolyte, a reactivation peak associated with the localized attack around NbC, different from that of intergranular corrosion, is observed for the solution annealed 347 SS. For solution annealed Alloy 600, matrix corrosion and localized attack around TiC with distinct anodic peaks appeared in the EPR curves are seen in the $H_2SO_4$+ KSCN electrolyte. With proper adjustment of elect rolyte composition, the contribution from intergranular corrosion, as a result of chromium carbide precipitation along the grain boundaries, can be distingui shed from the matrix and localized corrosion for the sensitized Alloy 600.
Overlaid weld metals of austenitic stainless steel in a pressure vessel of power reactor are usually post-weld heated for a long period of time after welding. The PWHT is considered as a kind of sensitizing and it is important to check the soundness of the weld metal after PWHT, especially about the precipitation of carbides. The purpose of this report is to obtain information on the relation between the change of microstructure and Post-Weld Heat Treatment in the overlaid weld metals. Metallurgical aspects of the problem on austenitic stainless steel heated at $625^{\circ}C$, $670^{\circ}C$, $720^{\circ}C$ and $760^{\circ}C$ for 3, 10, 30, 100 and 300 hours have been investigated by means of optical-micrography, micro-hardness measurement, scanning electron microscope and electron-probe micro analysis. From the results obtained, the following conclusions are drawn; 1) The PWHT above $625^{\circ}C$ for a long time causes a diffusion of carbon atoms from low alloy steel into stainless steel, and consequently carbon is highly concentrated at the boundary layer of stainless steel. 2) C in ferritic steel migrated to austenitic steel and carbides precipitated in austenitic steel along fusion line. At higher temperatures, the ferrite grains coarsened in the decarburized zone. 3) In the change of microstructure of stainless steel overlaid weld metal, the width of carbides precipitated zone and decarburized zone increased with increase of PWHT temperature and time. 4) At about $625^{\circ}C$ to $760^{\circ}C$, chromium carbides, mainly $M_{23} C_6$, precipitate very closely in the carburized layer with remarkable hardening. 5) Precipitation of delta ferrite from molten weld metal depends on solidification phenomenon. There was a small of ferrite near the bond in which the local solidification time was short, comparing with after parts of weld metal. Shape and amount of ferrite were not changed by Post-Weld Heat Treatment after solidification.
This study was carried out to investigate the precipitation behavior of the ${\chi}$ phase and the impact toughness of 25%Cr-7%Ni-2%Mo-4%W super duplex stainless steel. The ${\chi}$ phase was precipitated in the early stage of aging, and with the increasing aging time. However, after reaching a maximum value, the number decreased as a result of the gradual transformation of the ${\chi}$ phase into the ${\sigma}$-phase. It was proved that the ${\chi}$ phase was an intermetallic compound, which represented a lower nickel concentration, higher chromium and molybdenum concentrations, and very higher tungsten concentration compared to the matrix phases. It also showed higher molybdenum and tungsten concentrations than the ${\sigma}$ phase. The decomposition of the ferrite phase into the ${\gamma}_2$ and ${\sigma}$ phases was retarded by W substitution for Mo. Thus, the number of ${\chi}$ phases increased. The impact value was decreased by the substitution of W for Mo. The impact toughness rapidly decreased with time when the ${\chi}$ phase began to precipitate in the initial stage of aging. The impact toughness was, therefore, greatly influenced for the precipitation of the ${\chi}$ phase.
This study has been carried out to investigate the precipitation behavior of ${\chi}$ phase and effect of ${\chi}$ phase precipitation on the impact toughness of 25%Cr-7%Ni-4%Mo super duplex stainless steel. It was proved that the ${\chi}$ phase was a intermetallic compound, which represented the higher chromium and molybdenum concentration than the matrix phases, and also showed the higher molybdenum concentration than the ${\sigma}$ phase. The ${\chi}$ phase was precipitated at the interface between ferrite and austenite or inside the ferrite matrix in the early stage of aging. The number of ${\chi}$ phase precipitates increased with increasing aging time, however, after showing the maximum value, the number was decreased due to the gradual transformation of ${\chi}$ phase into ${\sigma}$-phase. Aging ferrite phase was decomposed by the $r^2$ phase and ${\sigma}$-phase. Impact toughness rapidly decreased with time in the initial stage of aging at ${\chi}$ phase start to precipitate. Thus, the impact toughness was greatly influence for the precipitation of ${\chi}$ phase.
