In this work, a simple and low cost sensor technique is proposed to test oil color in real time using in-line sensor. It is presented to use a ratio of intensity in red wavelength range to intensities of green and blue wavelength ranges (defined as a 'chromatic ratio') in order to estimate the oil color change. The proposed sensor technique is realized by irradiating a white LED as light source and a RGB color sensor as photoreceiver, and the chromatic ratio of various types of used oils are measured. The results show that chromatic ratio generally reflects chemical deterioration of oil, including oil oxidation and thermal degradation. It is concluded that the proposed sensor could be used for an effective oil monitoring technology.

Chromatic device was developed using light emitting diodes, optic fibers and photodiodes. Chromatic ratio and total contamination parameters based on transmitted light intensity in Red, Green, and Blue wavelengths were used for oil chemical and particulate contamination assessment. Chromatic ratio criterion was found independent of the particulate contamination of oil; but depended on chemical degradation, being more sensitive for synthetic than mineral hydraulic oil. Total contamination index of the sensor depended on both the chemical degradation and particulate contamination of the oil; being most sensitive in blue wavelength, and least in the red. Test results for synthetic hydraulic oils monitored corroborated with results of other tests such as viscosity, total acid number, elemental optical emission spectroscopy, particulate counts and UV-VIS photospectrometry. Chromatic ratio showed a clearer indication of oil degradation, compared to key monitoring parameters such as total acid number, viscosity and particle counts. The results showed that these parameters are effective criteria for the condition monitoring of synthetic hydraulic oils.
In this investigation, we describe a chromatic confocal sensor based on a geometric phase lens for measuring the thicknesses of transparent plates. In order to design a compact sensor, a geometric phase lens, which has diffractive and polarizing characteristics, is used as a device to generate chromatic aberration, and a fiber optic module is adopted. The systematic error of the sensor is reduced with wavelength peak detection by Gaussian curve fitting and the common error compensation obtained by the repeatedly consecutive experimental results. An approach to calculate the plate thickness is derived and verified with sapphire and BK7 plates. Because of the simple and compact design of the proposed sensor with rapid measurement capability, it is expected to be widely used in thickness measurements of transparent plates as an alternative to traditional approaches.

In this paper, we propose a chromatic aberration removal algorithm in image capture devices, which considers local properties of the image. Chromatic aberration is generated by the fact that the refractive index of the lens is different for different wavelengths, which produces color artifacts on strong edge due to misalignment of RGB channels. Under the characteristics of the artifacts, the proposed algorithm first estimates the regions with the apparent color artifacts as the neighborhoods of the strong edge. In the regions, the proposed algorithm removes the color artifacts by matching the edges of RGB channels. The widely used conventional methods based on global image warping could not remove the color artifacts of longitudinal chromatic aberration and purple fringing identified by the image sensor, whereas the matching process of the proposed method could reduce them. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the conventional methods on objective and subjective criteria.

Each pixels become got pixel value for color of only one from among colors because of bayer pattern that light receiving device of image sensor which is used in HHP and digital camera writes only one color. Information of the missing pixels could infer perfect color image from using information of neighbor pixels by using CFA(Color Filter Array). In this paper, we derive relation between the average of the data from the light receiving device of image sensor and each color channel data. And by using this relation, a new efficient edge color fuzzy method for color interpolation is proposed. Also, missing luminance signal channel interpolation was fuzzy interpolation along any edges direction for reducing color noise and interpolating efficiently it. And in this paper, the proposed method has been proved improving average 2.4dB than the conventional method by using PSNR. Also, resolution of the image of the proposed method was similar to the original image by visual images, we has been verified to be decreased a chromatic aberration than image of conventional algorithms with simulation result.
This paper presents a new graphical method for selecting a pair of optical glass and housing materials to simultaneously achromatize and athermalize a multilens system composed of many elements. To take into account the lens spacing and housing, we quantify the lens power, chromatic power, and thermal power by weighting the ratio of the paraxial ray height at each lens to them. In addition, we introduce the equivalent single lens and the expanded athermal glass map including a housing material. Even though a lens system is composed of many elements, we can simply identify a pair of glass and housing materials that satisfies the athermal and achromatic conditions. Applying this method to design a black box camera lens equipped with a 1/4-inch image sensor having a pixel width of $2{\mu}m$, the chromatic and thermal defocusings are reduced to less than the depth of focus, over the specified ranges in temperature and frequency.
One of the important trends for condition monitoring in the 21st century is the development of smart sensors that will permit the cost-effective continuous monitoring of key machine equipments. In this study, an integrated in-line oil monitoring sensor assigned for continuous in situ monitoring multiple parameters of oil performance is presented. The sensor estimates oil deterioration based on the information about chemical degradation, total contamination, water content of oil and oil temperature. The oil oxidation is estimated by "chromatic ratio", total contamination is measured by the changes in optical density of oil in three optical wave-bands ('Red', 'Green' and 'Blue') and water content is evaluated as relative saturation of oil by water. In order to evaluate the sensor's effectiveness, the sensor was applied to several used oil samples in steel making industry and the results were compared with those measured by standard test methods.

In this study, we proposed a method for surface profiling aspheric lens molds using a precision displacement sensor with a spatial scanning mechanism. The precision displacement sensor is based on the confocal principle using a broadband light source, providing a 10 nm resolution over a 0.3 mm measurable range. The precision of the sensor, depending on surface slope, was evaluated via Allan deviation analysis. We then developed an automatic surface profiling system by measuring the cross-sectional profile of a lens mold. The precision of the sensor at the flat surface was 10 nm at 10 ms averaging time, while 200 ms averaging time was needed for identical precision at the steepest slope at 25 deg. When we compared the measurement result of the lens mold to a commercial surface profiler, we found that the accuracy of the developed system was less than 90 nm (in terms of 3 sigmas of error) between the two results.

To capture color and near-infrared images simultaneously, a multi-spectral filter array(MSFA) sensor is used. This is because an NIR band gives additional invisible information to human eyes to see subject under extremely low light level. However, because lenses have different refractive indices for different wavelengths, lenses may fail to focus widely different rays to the same convergence point. This is why a chromatic aberration(CA) problem occurs and images are degraded. In this paper, the image restoration algorithm for an MSFA image, which removes the CA problem, is presented. The obtained MSFA image is filtered by the estimated low-pass kernel to generate a base image. This base image is used to remove CA problem in multi-spectral(MS) images. By modeling the image degradation process and by using the least squares approach of the difference between the high-frequencies of the base and MS images, the desired high-resolution MS images are reconstructed. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm performs well in estimating the high-quality MS images and reducing the chromatic aberration problem.
An integrated in-line oil monitoring detector assigned for continuous in situ monitoring multiple parameters of oil performance for predicting economically optimal oil change intervals and equipment condition control is presented in this study. The detector estimates oil deterioration based on the information about chemical degradation, total contamination, water content of oil and oil temperature. The oil oxidation is estimated by "chromatic ratio", total contamination is measured by the changes in optical intensity of oil in three optical wavebands ("Red", "Green" and "Blue") and water content is evaluated as Relative Saturation of oil by water. The detector is able to monitor oils with low light absorption (hydraulic, transformer, turbine, compressor and etc. oils) as well as oils with rather high light absorption in visible waveband (diesel and etc. oils). In a case study that the detector is applied to a diesel engine oil, it is found that the detector provides good results on oil chemical degradation as well as soot concentration.
