Skins were manufactured in Korea since the early prehistoric period and were manufac-tured and used from the period of the three Kingdoms and Koryo through the Chosun era. These materials were developed into skins through a tradition of thousand years, . In Korea the Orient Culture of nomadic tribes and Mesopotamia Culture of stock-farming come together and developed these original woolen fabrics and skins culture. In this study the characteristics of Korean skins will be disscussed from the literature survey of the relevant references researched remains and pictures. During the Chosun period skins were fre-quently manufactured and used. Vsarious skins were used as necessites of life such as cloth-ing shoes bedclothes and so on.
Different units of metrology were used in the Joseon Dynasty, such as Yeongjocheok, Pobaekcheok, Jolegicheok, and Jucheok. In many cases, Yeongjocheok and Pobaekcheok were of different dimensions depending on the region. Therefore, this study analyzed Jaseungcha Dohae of Ha BaeckWon to restore the scale of Hwasun Dongbok area in which Seokdang Na GyeongJeokyung and Gyunam Ha BaeckWon lived and made practical devices. The results of the analysis show that a universal Yeongjocheok of 30.6 cm was used.
Writer Hong Myung-hee, author of the novel Im Kkeok Jeong, provided an excellent description of the costume customs of the Chosun era, based on an understanding of various historical texts and literature by practical science proponents, and experience gained from the Hong household of Pungsan, a noble family of high standing during the Chosun dynasty. However, there is a tendency towards descriptions of late Chosun era customs, rather than 16th century customs, with the intent of heightening the image of what most people felt to represent Chosun and its prestige, thereby generating greater reader sympathy. Therefore, information on the costume customs of the novel 1m Kkeok Jeong is analyzed and re-formed to fit with the temporal setting of the 16th century. By providing data to aid visual understanding and re-creation, the intent is to accept it as material for the rumination of our ancestors and their lifestyles in the 16th century. The novel provides a good description of Chosun economic customs, in which cotton and hemp were used not only as fabric for clothes, but also as currency. The trade value of cotton drapery or hemp drapery with dimensions of 5 strand density at a length of 35 ja per roll was designated as 5 mal (about 90 liters) of rice by national law, but the actual value varied depending on the production of rice. Also, it is possible to confirm the existence of sang po with dimensions of 3 strand density at a length of 30 ja per roll, or 2 strand density seochongdae cotton, which was used only as currency due to the rough quality. Characteristics of the Chosun dynasty, a class-based society, are described through distinctions of attire. The writer's intent regarding the symbolic nature of attire reflecting social position, a characteristic of the entire Chosun period, is analyzed with the presentation of visual material.
Phenomena experienced by all individuals and cultural interpretation of such phenomena seem to be irrelevant to the change of time. The subject dream to be discussed in this study is one of them. Nevertheless, people's attitude of understanding dreams in the past is obviously different from the contemporary one, and the interpretation of dreams reveals the science of the corresponding age. Bishop Daveluy, a missionary to Chosun in the mid 19th century, observed Korean people's hardly understandable response to dreams. According to his explanation, Chosun people regarded what they saw in a dream as a fact. It might have been quite long that a dream is regarded as a sign of the future. However, how a dream can be a sign of the future is explained different according to the science of the corresponding age. Many records on dreams since the late Koryo Dynasty and the early Chosun Dynasty did not give satisfactory answers to this question. However, new interpretations of dreams were attempted occasionally in the process that the Sung Confucian view of nature in the Chosun Dynasty was being matured. One of such interpretations is that a dream is obviously a phenomenon of human cognition and there is a rule behind dreams. I t was believed that the rule is a flow of energy defined by reason penetrating through the past, the present and the future and, as a consequence, dreams are future oriented. The view that a dream is a phenomenon with a causal relation is observed more specifically in medicine. I t was understood basically as a pathological phenomenon but, at the same time, a substance in an organic relation with the human body. In addition, it was understood as the results of facts (physiological and pathological processes) experienced by the body in the past and the sign of diseases in the future. However, from the viewpoint of contemporary science based on empirical rationalism, such foreseeability is fundamentally unacceptable. In contemporary science, in which scientific analysis of phenomena has to be of the past tense, dreams exist as the representations of the past. What Bishop Daveluy saw in Korean people was a phenomenon observed when the pre modern met the modern as pre modern people's life and idea were viewed from a modern people's eye.
To establish a foundation to objectively interpret Chosun history, we construct people network of the Chosun dynasty. The network shows scale free network properties as if most social networks do. The people network is composed of 1,379 nodes and 3,874 links and its diameter is 14. To analysis of the network dynamics, whole network that is composed of 27 king networks were constructed by adding the first king, Taejo network to the second king, Jeongjong network and then continuously adding the next king networks. Interestingly, betweenness and closeness centralities were gradually decreased but stress centrality was drastically increased. These results indicate that information flow is gradually slowing and hub node position is more centrally oriented as growing the network. To elucidate key persons from the network, k-core and MCODE algorithms that can extract core or module structures from whole network were employed. It is a possible to obtain new insight and hidden information by analyzing network dynamics. Due to lack of the dynamic interacting data, there is a limit for network dynamic research. In spite of using concise data, this research provides us a possibility that annals of the Chosun dynasty are very useful historical data for analyzing network dynamics.
After 19th century of Chosun Dynasty Gilsnagmunja-do such as longevity, good fortune, health, well-being which was explosively prevalent and Hyojemunja-do which was panoramically decorated with eight characters of filial piety, fraternal devotion, loyalty, trust, courtesy, commitment, integrity and humility for enlightment of the public under the name of political ideology are consistency or same origin in traditional concept of Orient. Therefore, in view of Western standard, they are showing an illustration and a photograph of characters in design. There are some differences in way of expressions. They were considerably popular not only in Chosun Dynasty but in China, Japan and Vietnam where belong to the cultural territory of chinese characters. Though, Hyojemunja-do which was built-up in the late period of Chosun Dynasty and developed fro chinese mode is a very peculiar iconography and mode of Chosun Dynasty. Hyojemunja-do is also classified from Chinese Nianhua designed for supply of Conficianism ethics or Folk Painting designed for practical use in chinese cultural territory. In the late period of 19th century, Hyojemunja-do which was re-built with creative modeling has been developed in peculiar mode in the province of Kyunggi, Kangwon(Kwan dong region), Kwanseo region, Jeju island and Namdo region by the diversified level of painters.
This study intends to consider about the food culture during the latterly Chosun Dynasty through the genre paintings which are depicted realistically about the total food life figures for example not only the foods, but also that people who eat and drink the food and eating implements, eating methods. There are 9 pieces of works Kim hong-do's which are the best appraisal on the incorporated Korean emotion and on the real life of general public. Those are selected for this study's characteristics through the literature consideration. The characteristics of the tableware pottery and food culture are following things. The first is a white porcelain's development and popularization. In the latterly Chosun Dynasty period, the development of the agriculture and commerce made been connected to the affluent food cultures, these made increase the porcelain's use of upper classes and these made been connected to the development of the porcelain's cultures. The second is the development of various pottery with a dark brown glaze manufactures. The development of agriculture and economy power made bring the development of the kinds of sauces and Kimchi culture with an inflow of foreign crops and these made making the large an earthenware pot or jar which could store something during the long time. The third is the development of the small dining table on the eating the bread of idleness. In the Chosun dynasty period, the food style was been unified to he eating the bread of idleness and been lowered. These made developed of various small dining table through the underfloor heating system's generalization. The fourth is the development of the spoon with the soup culture. It is the East Asia called that the spoon culture boundary, this show the characteristic that we use the spoon mainly compare with another countries. Finally, it is universal use of the fixed quantitative implements. They could live quantitative life with the scales which are jar of soy sauce, liquor jug, jar, scoop leading a set of tableware.
A study was carried out to compare the food cultures among Korea (Chosun dynasty), China (Ming, thing dynasty) and Japan (Muromachi, Edo era) from 14 century to 19 century. For this study, geographical environments, historical background with the times were researched and also bibliographies related on food cultures were compared among these three countries. There were special geographical environments in three countries upon their territories and geographical features. Historically, in those era, the livelyhoods of the common people in three countries were difficult considerably because of the disturbances of war in the inside and outside of the countries. But the food cultures of three countries were changed owe to introduce the new western culture and institutions. And also there were numerous bibliographies related on food culture which were published from 14C to 19C in Chosun dynasty, Ming and Ching dynasty, and Muromachi, Edo era. They were shown to be the most in Japan, and order of China and Korea followed them. The bibliographies of Ming and thing dynasty showed less than those of Edo era for considering their population and territory, comparatively. In Japan, the biliographies related on food culture of Edo era was given the term of the age of cookery books. It was thought to be resulted from that the peoples of Japan were concerned about cooking and had more chances to contact foreign culture earlier than other country.

Though the po as the basic apparel of the Joseon Dynasty period was various in kind as it was worn by people of different times, places, duties and statuses. it was unified as Juui with apparel reform at the late Joseon Dynasty. Though people of today have good feelings about hanbok, they rarely wear it because of its uncomfortable wearing sensation and the fastidious care after its use. However, efforts should be made to develop designs and to improve its use convenience through the study on the Korean traditional clothing now that overseas examples exist in which other countries' traditional clothing was successfully popularized. In this regard, targeting the children in their preschool ages when their socialization arises along with their physical development that have great influence on their adulthood, this study aims to suggest a design of overcoats that combines the various characteristics of the po in Joseon Dynasty period with those of the modern children's overcoats so that they might have positive attitudes towards Korean traditional clothes, and to contribute to its popularization. The study applied the characteristics of po to the design of children's overcoats so that children and their parents could choose to wear them with little repulsion. In this way, it attempted to resolve the inconveniences of the Korean traditional clothes and make the general public have positive perception about them. It is expected that the continuous development of the design that combines the Korean traditional clothes and children's clothes will contribute to the popularization of the Korean traditional clothes.
The goal of this paper is to analyze the vocabularies and cases related to Kimchi as a cultural history. For this purpose, we extract the vocabularies of Kimchi from the records of Korean Literary Collection in Classical Chinese, Annals of the Choson Dynasty, Records of Daily Reflection, and Diary of the Royal Secretariat. The existing literatures related to Kimchi are confined to some cookbooks, but in this study, we attempt to overcome the existing limitations and adopt a comprehensive and systematic approach. The classic literatures of the Choson Dynasty are mainly recorded in traditional Chinese characters; therefore, the readability is poor, and it is presupposed that a lot of time and effort will be needed for the translation work after securing the data. Therefore, we performed this research with a focus on this part. Next, we tried to reconstruct the archetype of Kimchi culture in the Choson Dynasty by classifying the above materials according to the subject and literature sources.
