Start-Up Current Control Method for Three-Phase PWM Rectifiers with a Low Initial DC-Link Voltage

  • When a PWM rectifier has a low DC-link voltage during startup, the output voltage vector cannot be high enough to regulate the input current. This lack of a PWM rectifier output voltage vector can cause an unregulated inrush current when the rectifier operation starts. This paper presents a PWM rectifier start-up current control algorithm for when it starts operation with a lower DC-link voltage than unloaded condition case. To avoid the unregulated inrush current caused by a lack of DC-link voltage, the proposed control scheme regulates the one phase current with one switch chopping and it generates the current command considering the uncontrolled current magnitude information, which is calculated in advance. Simulation and experiment results support the validity of the proposed method.

전류보상 및 보호 기능을 갖는 BLU용 LED Driver IC설계 (LED driver IC design for BLU with current compensation and protection function)

  • 최근 LED 디스플레이 시스템이 활발히 보급됨에 따라서 시스템 구동을 위한 LED 드라이버의 효과적인 제어방법에 대한 연구가 진행 중이다. 그 중에 가장 대표적인 것이 LED Driver 채널의 균일한 밝기 제어이다. 본 논문 에서는 채널 휘도 편차 최소화를 위한 전류보상 및 시스템 보호 기능을 갖는 BLU용 LED driver IC를 제안하였다. 제안하는 LED Driver IC는 채널 간 ±3% 이내의 current accuracy와 150mA 채널 전류를 목표로 설계하였다. 설계 사양을 만족시키기 위해 채널 구동 PWM 신호를 이용한 chopping 동작을 수행하도록 하여 채널 앰프 옵셋을 상쇄할 수 있도록 하였다. 또한 pre-charge기능을 구현하여 빠른 동작 속도와 채널간 휘도 편차를 최소화할 수 있도록 하였다. LED에러(오픈, 쇼트), 스위치 TR 쇼트 감지 및 동작 온도 보호 회로를 설계하여 IC 및 BLU시스템을 보호할 수 있도록 하였다. 제안된 IC는 Cadence 및 Synopsys사의 Design Tool을 사용하여 설계 하였으며, Magnachip 0.35um CMOS 공정을 사용하여 제작되었다. 제작된 LED driver IC는 채널 간 ±1.5% 이내의 current accuracy와 150mA 채널 출력특성을 만족하였으며, 평가 보드를 통해 에러 검출 회로들이 정상 동작함을 확인하였다.

셔터방식의 쵸퍼를 이용한 정지 및 이동인체 감지 모듈 개발 (Development of Standing and Moving Human Body Sensing Module Using a Chopper of Shutter Method)

  • 셔터방식의 쵸퍼를 이용한 정지 및 이동인체 감지 모듈을 개발하였다. 감지 모듈은 프레넬 렌즈(Fresnel lens), 초전형적외선(pyroelectric infrared : PIR) 센서, 센서 인터페이스 회로, MCU(micro control unit) 그리고 경보 LED(light emitting diode)로 구성된다. 정지 인체 감지 원리는 PIR 센서에서 나오는 신호를 카메라 셔터를 이용하여 인체의 열을 쵸핑하여 감지하는 방식이다. MCU에서 인터럽트 함수를 제어하는 알고리즘을 통해 정지 및 이동 인체 신호를 감지하게 하였다. 개발한 감지 모듈은 기구부와 PCB(print circuit board)를 일체화함으로써 종래의 상용화되고 있는 이동인체 감지 모듈을 대체 가능하다. 실내 상온에서의 실험 결과, 감지거리는 약 7.0m, 감지각도는 $110^{\circ}$로 측정되었다. 이런 조건에서 감지률은 100%이였고 모듈의 소비 전력는 100mW이였다.

  • The paper presents the component parts and their models of the Switched Reluctance motor drive system with the angle position-current chopping control and with the fixed angle pulse width modulation control. The calculation of the parameters and the simulated models based on the MATLAB SIMULINK software package are introduced by a four-phase 8/6 structure prototype with the four-phase asymmetric bridge power converter. The simulation of the prototype in the course of starting is made by the simulated models at the different control strategies and the different given rotor speed.

  • This paper describes the design of a 2-phase stepping motor driver using CPLD(Complex Programmable Logic Device). The driver IC such as L297(SGS-Thomson Microelectronics), which is mostly used has some difficulties in PWM control because of the switching noise of power MOSFETs. It causes current ripple and acoustic noise. To improve theses characteristics, we proposed a new current control method that the output PWM frequency is almost constant using a digital filter. Also we proposed constant current method for 1-2 phase(half step) excitation. The proposed method is implemented with CPLD(Xilinx, XC9572-PC44). Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • This paper is studied the new speed control system of the DC motor which can drive constant speed at variable load as well as reduce the homonics. System is used thyristor-Leonard circuit with 2-tap in order to reduce the homonics problems due to chopping dc input voltage in chopper system and semiconductor devices in thyristor-Leonard system. There is added to the PLL system to drive the constant speed in variable Load, which has controlled of variable speed in DC motor. Thereby, we have proved its through experiment.

Adaptive Variable Angle Control in Switched Reluctance Motor Drives for Electric Vehicle Applications

  • Switched reluctance motor (SRM) is suitable for electric vehicle (EV) applications with the advantages of simple structure, good overload capability, and inherent fault-tolerance performance. The SRM dynamic simulation model is built based on torque, voltage, and flux linkage equations. The EV model is built on the basis of the analysis of forces acting on a vehicle. The entire speed range of the SRM drive is then divided into constant torque and constant power areas. The command torque of the motor drive system is given according to the accelerator pedal coefficient and motor operation areas. A novel adaptive variable angle control is proposed to avoid the switching chattering between the current chopping control and angle position control modes in SRM drives for EV applications. Finally, simulation analysis and experimental results are conducted to verify the accuracy of the proposed simulation model and control strategy.

  • Recently, SRMs are used in automobiles for power assistant steering, accessory motion control and traction drives. Especially in the motion control and traction drives, safety and efficiency are of paramount important. The paper describes the essential elements, faced in designing and constructing drive circuits for a switched reluctance motor for automobiles. These converters will be referred to as energy efficient C-dump converter and modified C-dump converter Energy efficient C-dump converter topology eliminate all the disadvantages of the C-dump converter without sacrificing its attractive features, and also provide some additional advantages that have lower number of power devices, full regenerative capability, free-wheeling in chopping or PWM mode, simple control strategy, and faster demagnetization during commutation. The experiments are peformed to verify the capability of proposed control method on 6/4 salient type SRM.
