  • Effect of chemo- and thermotherapy on LSV elimination was investigated in Lilium Oriental Hybrid cv. Casa Blanca which was infected by LSV. Either 20 mg/L ribavirin or the treatment of 35$^{\circ}C$/$25^{\circ}C$ (day/night) thermotherapy resulted in the desired growth rate and high percentage (86%, 80% respectively) of LSV elimination. When we combinated those application, the rate of LSV elimination was increased with the time of heat treatment, and was 100% by all heat treatment of 16 weeks. After all of the LSV-free plants transferred into the soil, the number of LSV-free plants was 8 plants out of 12 plants and the efficiency of LSV elimination was best in the combination of 20 mg/L ribavirin and 8 weeks of heat treatment. About 21 % of plants kept LSV-free after transferred all of the LSV-free plants into the soil, the others became LSV-infected again.

  • A nationwide survey was performed to know the geographical distribution of Gymnophalloides seoi (Digenea: Gymnophallidae) metacercariae in Korea, by examining the infection status of locally produced oysters, Crassosden gillu. A total of 24 coastal areas (myons) of 14 guns (=counties) in Kyonggi-do, Chollabuk-do, Chollanam-do, Kyongsangnam-do, Kyongsangbuk-do, or Kangwon-do, where natural oysters are produced but G. seoi has never been reported, and 13 areas (myons) of Shinan-gun, Chollanam-do, nearby the known endemic area, were surveyed. Oysters from non- endemic areas were free from G. seoi infection, except Byonsan-myon of Buan-gun, Chollabuk-do, where one of 50 oysters examined was infected with 15 metacercariae of G. seoi. In Shinan-gun, oysters from 10 areas including Aphae-myon (= township) and Anjwa-myon were infected with the metacercariae, with the infection rate ranging from 1.7% to 100% by areas. The intensity of infection was the highest in Aphae-myon, 785.9 metacercariae per oyster. The results indicate that high prevalence of G. seoi is confined to Shinan-gun, but low grade prevalence is also present in adjacent areas such as Buan- gun, Chollabuk-do.

  • The purpose of this case study is to provide the basic knowledge and the rationale for establishing the professional personnel position of Landscape Architecture(LA) in local Government of Korea o the basis of the characteristics and adoption system of professional personnel organization in comparison with the cases of Japan, the United States of America, and Germany. I have analyzed the case of Chonju City, Chollabuk-Do, recruited professional personnel of LA by using informal career position, to justify the needs and the division of professional Landscaping works of the city and to figure out drawbacks of the current adoption system of professional personnel in South Korea. In have found the following results that 1) City Mayor in Korean local Governments do not have the proper authorizing rights of recruiting the special personnels for performing urban policy, which is under controls of the Official Appointment Regulations, 2) because of no official position status for specialist in the fields of LA, the Chonju City had been recruited them as Urban Planner status through an informal process, 3) the section of Park and Urban Forestry was established under the control of Department of Culture and multimedia Industry, 4) the fields of specialized works of LA are defined as the work of ecopolis design and planning, biotope networking, ecological bridge and ecological restorations, and 5) the professional positions for LA should be established in Official Appointment Regulation for the urgent needs of local Government sin South Korea.
