A various ${\alpha}$-arylmethylpropionic acids(profen) have been widely used as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for the relief of acute and chronic rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, as well as for other connective tissue disorders and pains. Example is fenoprofen, ibuprofen, ketoprofen, and naproxen. All are chiral and, except for naproxen and ibuprofen, are marketed in racemic form. Enantioseparations of profens have been of considerable interest becaus their anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects have been attirbuted almost exclusively to their (S)-enantiomer. (omitted)

Diabetes mellitus (DM) leads to a variety of complications and thus we have retrospectively studied to investigate problems of nerve conduction velocity (NCV) study and the heart in the patients with type-II DM. Blood glucose and blood pressure levels were higher in DM group than in Non-DM group. We found that several latencies were delayed in motor conduction study of upper (median and ulnar nerve) and lower extremities (peroneal and tibial nerve), whereas amplitudes and NCVs were decreased in DM group compared with Non-DM group. Latencies of sensory conduction study in upper and lower extremities (sural nerve) were delayed, while amplitudes and NCVs were lower in DM group than in Non-DM group. Abnormal percent of the electrocardiogram was higher in DM group than in Non-DM group. This retrospective study suggests that type-II DM can cause a damage effect on the peripheral nerve and the heart function.

After the first record of a Korean ciliate in 1931, more than 130 papers have been published describing Korean ciliates. Of these records, the years 1997, 2012, and 2016 include milestone publications in Korea. Even though the publications provide summarized data about Korean ciliates with relevant literature citations, these publications included two nomenclatural errors, two misspellings, and one misidentification; nine species were transferred to other genera. Furthermore, the type specimens deposited in the laboratory of Prof. Joong Ki Choi (Inha University, Korea) were transferred to the National Marine Biodiversity Institute of Korea (MABIK) because of his retirement. Here, we provide an updated list of 331 Korean species described by 2016 and present information about the type specimens. We also and address the aforementioned problems with bringing together scattered data related to ciliate lists.
