  • The clearance of ICG, a known hepatic blood flow marker was investigated in rats in order to examine whether DDB-S influences hepatic blood flow. The effect of DDB-S on the protein binding and blood-to-plasma partition of ICG was measured. The steady-state plasma concentration of ICG was monitored before and after co-administration of various concentration of DDB-S, and ICG clearance was estimated from the steady-state concentration and the infusion rate of ICG. There was no significant difference in protein binding and blood-to-plasma partition of ICG with and without addition of DDB-S (10, 20, and 40 ${\mu}g/mL)$. When ICG was infused into DDB-S pretreated rats, the steady-state concentrations of ICG decreased and the calculated ICG clearance increased. However, no dose-dependency of ICG Css on DDB-S Css was observed. Since DDB-S did not affect the protein binding and blood-to-plasma partition of ICG, the increased clearance of ICG with co-administration of DDB-S seems to be due to the increased hepatic blood flow by DDB-S.

  • As the high-rise building increase due to the gravitation of population to big cities recently, it requires high quality and high performance of Concrete. As a result, people are keenly interested in Meta-kaolin as new admixture favorable from an economic perspective, which has strength and endurance with admixture at the same level like Silica-fume. Accordingly, as to Meta-kaolin, this study was to set by three levels like domestic one, foreign one, and Silica-fume, the water-binding material ratio 25%, and four level substitute like 0, 10, 20, and 30(%) in order to compare and analyze the quality durability of high-concrete according to the substitute of Meta-kaolin applicable with replacement of Silica-fume. As a result of performing experiment it was found that when water-binding material ratio increases, resistance of neutralization, carbonation, salt damage and sulfate decrease, and when replacement ratio of mineral admixture increases, depth of accelerating carbonation gets greater. Also, the combination of SF and MK-B favored resistance to chloride ion penetration better than MK-A, and it was found that when replacement ratio of binding material increases, the resistance to sulphuric acid increases. Therefore, based on this study, it was understood that meta-kaolin is useable in replacement of silicafume.

  • 2,2¢-Dihydroxyazobenzene (DHAB) was attached to poly(ethylenimine) (PEI) to obtain DHAB-PEI. Spectral titration revealed that uranyl, Fe(III), Cu(II), and Zn(II) ion form 1 : 1-type complexes with DHAB attached to PEI. Formation constants for the metal complexes formed by the DHAB moieties of DHAB-PEI were mea-sured by using various competing ligands. The results indicated thatthe concentrations of uranyl, Fe(III), and Cu(II) ions can be reduced to 10 -16 -10 -23 M at p 8 with DHAB-PEI when the concentration of the DHAB moiety is 1 residue M. By using cyanuric chloride as the coupling reagent, DHAB-PEI was immobilized on Sephadex G-25 resin to obtain DHAB-PEI-Seph. Binding of uranyl,Fe(III), Cu(II), and Zn(II) ion by DHAB-PEI-Seph was characterized by using competing ligands. A new method has been developed for characteriza-tion of metal sequestering ability of a chelating resin. Formation constants and metal-binding capacity of two sets of binding sites on the resin were estimated for each metal ion. DHAB-PI-Seph was applied to recovery of metals such as uranium,Fe, Cu, Zn, Pb, V, Mn, and W from seawater. The uranium recovery from seawaterby DHAB-PEI-Seph does not meet the criterion for economical feasibility partlydue to interference by Fe and Zn ions. The seawater used in the experiment was contaminated by Fe and Zn and, therefore, the efficiency of uranium extractionfrom seawater with DHAB-PEI-Seph could be improved if the experiment is carried out in a cleaner sea.

  • The critical micelle concentration(CMC) and the counterion binding constant(B) for the mixed micel-lization of sodium n-octanoate(SOC) with n-octylammonium chloride(OAC) were determined as a function of the overall mole fraction of $SOC({\alpha}_1).$ Various thermodynamic parameters($x_i$, $Y_i$, $C_i$, $${\alpha}_i^M$$, and $\Delta$$H_{mix}$) for the mixed micellization of the SOC/OAC systems have been calculated and analyzed by means of the equations derived from the nonideal mixed micellar model. The results show that there are great deviations from the ideal behavior for the mixed micellization of these systems. And other thermodynamic parameters(${\Delta}$$G^0_m$, ${\Delta}$$H^0_m$, and ${\Delta}$$S^0_m$) associated with the micellization of SOC,OAC, and their $mixture({\alpha}_1=0.5)$ have been also estimated from the temperature dependence of CMC and B values, and the significance of these parameters and their relation to the theory of the micelle formation have been considered and analyzed by comparing each other.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of benzalkonium chloride solution as a wetting agent instead of water on dentin bonding with NTG-GMA/BPDM system (All-bond 2, Bisco.) and DSDM system (Aelitebond, Bisco.). Benzalkonium chloride solution is a chemical disinfectant widely used in medical and dental clinics for preoperative preparation of skin and mucosa due to its strong effect of cationic surface active detergent. Eighty freshly extracted bovine lower incisor were grinded labially to expose flat dentin surface, and then were acid-etched with 10 % phosphoric acid for 15 second, water-rinsed, and dried for 10 second with air syringe. The specimens were randomly divided into 8 groups of 10 teeth. The specimens of control group were remoistured with water and the specimens of experimental groups were remoistured with 0.1 %, 0.5 %, and 1.0 % benzalkonium chloride solution respectively. And then, the Aelitefil composite resin was bonded to the pretreated surface of the specimens by use of All-bond 2 dentin bonding system or Aelitebond dentin bonding system in equal number of the specimens. The bonded specimens were stored in $37^{\circ}C$ distilled water for 24 hours, then the tensile bond strength was measured, the mode of failure was observed, the fractured dentin surface were examined under scanning electron microscopy, and FT-IR spectroscopy was taken for the purpose of investigating the changes of the dentin surface pretreated with benzal konium chloride solution followed by each primer of the dentin bonding systems. The results were as follows : In the group of bonding with NTG-GMA/BPDM dentin bonding agent(All-bond 2), higher tensile bond strength was only seen in the experimental group remoistured with 0.1 % benzal konium chloride solution than that in water-remoistured control group(p<0.05). In the group of bonding with DSDM dentin bonding agent (Aelitebond), no significant differences were seen between the control and each one of the experimental group(p<0.05). Higher tensile bond strength were seen in NTG-GMAIBPDM dentin bonding agent group than in DSDM dentin bonding agent group regardless of remoistur ization with benzal konium chloride solution. On the examination of failure mode, cohesive and mixed failure were predominantly seen in the group of bonding with NTG-GMAIBPDM dentin bonding agent, while adhesive failure was predominantly seen in the group of bonding with DSDM dentin bonding agent. On SEM examination of fractured surfaces, no differences of findings of primed dentin surface between the groups with and without remoisturization with benzal konium chloride solution. FT-IR spectroscopy taken from the control and the experimental group reve::.led that some higher absorbance derived from the primers binding to dentin surface was seen at the group pretreated with 0.1 % benzal konium chloride solution than at the control group of remoisturizing with water.

  • Structural properties of a small hexapeptide molecule modeled after metal-binding siderochrome immersed in a room-temperature ionic liquid (RTIL) are studied via molecular dynamics simulations. We consider two different RTILs, each of which is made up of the same cationic species, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium ($BMI^+$), but different anions, hexafluorophosphate ($PF_6{^-}$) and chloride ($Cl^-$). We investigate how anionic properties such as hydrophobicity/hydrophilicity or hydrogen bonding capability affect the stabilization of the peptide in RTILs. To examine the effect of peptide-RTIL electrostatic interactions on solvation, we also consider a hypothetical solvent $BMI^0Cl^0$, a non-ionic counter-part of $BMI^+Cl^-$. For reference, we investigate solvation structures in common polar solvents, water and dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO). Comparison of $BMI^+Cl^-$ and $BMI^0Cl^0$ shows that electrostatic interactions of the peptide and RTIL play a significant role in the conformational fluctuation of the peptide. For example, strong electrostatic interactions between the two favor an extended conformation of the peptide by reducing its structural fluctuations. The hydrophobicity/hydrophilicity of RTIL anions also exerts a notable influence; specifically, structural fluctuations of the peptide become reduced in more hydrophilic $BMI^+Cl^-$, compared with those in more hydrophobic $BMI^+PF_6{^-}$. This is ascribed to the good hydrogen-bond accepting power of chloride anions, which enables them to bind strongly to hydroxyl groups of the peptide and to stabilize its structure. Transport properties of the peptide are examined briefly. Translations of the peptide significantly slow down in highly viscous RTILs.

  • The critical micelle concentration (CMC) and the counterion binding constant (B) in a mixed micellar state of the Dodecylpyridinium chloride (DPC) with the Cetyldimethylethylammonium bromide (CDEAB) at 25$^{\circ}C$ in aqueous solutions of n-butanol were determined as a function of ${\alpha}_1$ (the overall mole fraction of DPC) by the use of electric conductivity method. Various thermodynamic parameters (($X_i,\;{\gamma}_i,\;C_i,\;a^M_i,\;{\beta},\;and {\Delta}H_{mix})$were calculated by means of the equations derived from the nonideal mixed micellar model. The effect of n-butanol on the mixed micellization of the DPC/CDEAB mixtures has been also studied by analyzing the measured and calculated thermodynamic parameters (CMC, B 및 $;{\Delta}G_o\;^m$).

  • According to the viscosity and density studies of an aqueous solution of dodecyl pyridinium chloride (DPC) it was shown that the 2nd critical micelle concentration (2nd cmc) existed in the solution in addition to the 1st cmc. The volume fraction ${\phi}_m$ of the hydrated micelle was calculated by using the following equation: ${\Pi}_{rm}=1+2.5{\phi}_m+14.1{\phi}_m^2$ It has been found that the increment of ${\phi}_m$ in the ${\phi}_m$ vs. $C_m$ curve decreased at near the 2nd cmc. And the partial specific volume ($\={v}$) of DPC obtained from the density measurement also decreased rapidly at near the 2nd cmc and remains constant value above the 2nd cmc. This may be attributed to a change in the micelle structure at the 2nd cmc caused by a variation in the type of aggregation and by a decrease in the counterion binding by the micelle.

  • GABA is primary an inhibitory neurotransmitter that is localized in inhibitory interneurons. GABA is released from presynaptic terminals and functions by binding to GABA receptors. There are two types of GABA receptors, $GABA_{A}-receptor$ that allows chloride to pass through a ligand gated ion channel and $GABA_{B}-receptor$ that uses G-proteins for signaling. The $GABA_{A}$-receptor has a GABA binding site as well as a benzodiazepine binding sites, which modulate $GABA_{A}$-receptor function. Benzodiazepine GABAA receptor imaging can be accomplished by radiolabeling derivates that activates benzodiazepine binding sites. There has been much research on flumazenil (FMZ) labeled with $^{11}C-FMZ$, a benzodiazepine derivate that is a selective, reversible antagonist to GABAA receptors. Recently, $^{18}F-fluoroflumazenil$ (FFMZ) has been developed to overcome $^{11}C's$ short half-life. $^{18}F-FFMZ$ shows high selective affinity and good pharmacodynamics, and is a promising PET agent with better central benzodiazepine receptor imaging capabilities. In an epileptic focus, because the GABA/benzodiazepine receptor amount is decreased, using $^{11}C-FMZ$ PET instead of $^{18}F-FDG$ PET, restrict the foci better and may also help find lesions better than high resolution MR. $GABA_{A}$ receptors are widely distributed in the cerebral cortex, and can be used as an viable neuronal marker. Therefore it can be used as a neuronal cell viability marker in cerebral ischemia. Also, GABA-receptors decrease in areas where neuronal plasticity develops, therefore, $GAB_{A}$ imaging can be used to evaluate plasticity. Besides these usages, GABA receptors are related with psychological diseases, especially depression and schizophrenia as well as cerebral palsy, a motor-related disorder, so further in-depth studies are needed for these areas.

  • This study was performed for the purpose of estimating steel corrosion and of considering a countermeasure to prevent steel corrosion of concrete structures under the environment of seawater or using seasand. The corrosion of steel was accelerated in artificial seawater with seven kinds of specimen which was embedded steel in mortar. To assume the degree of steel corrosion, soluble chloride content in mortar, $Cl^-$ binding capacity, half cell potential and corrosion area ratio were measured. The results show that corrosion area ratio was correlative with half cell potential and soluble chloride content in mortar.
