Assessment of some parameters of corrosion initiation prediction of reinforced concrete in marine environments

  • Chloride ion ingress is one of the major problems that affect the durability of concrete structures such as bridge decks, concrete pavements, and other structures exposed to harsh saline environments. Therefore, durability based design of concrete structures in severe condition has gained great significance in recent decades and various mathematical models for estimating the service life of rein-forced concrete have been proposed. In spite of comprehensive researches on the corrosion of rein-forced concrete, there are still various controversial concepts in quantitation of durability parameters such as chloride diffusion coefficient and surface chloride content. Effect of environment conditions on the durability of concrete structures is one of the most important issues. Hence, regional investigations are necessary for durability based design and evaluation of the models. Persian Gulf is one of the most aggressive regions of the world because of elevated temperature and humidity as well as high content of chloride ions in seawater. The aim of this study is evaluation of some parameters of durability of RC structures in marine environment from viewpoint of corrosion initiation. For this purpose, some experiments were carried out on the real RC structures and in laboratory. The result showed that various uncertainties in parameters of durability were existed.

Effect of Benzalkonium Chloride on Percutaneous Absoption of Antisense Phosphorothioate Oligonucleotides

  • The effect of benzalkonium chloride on skin permeability of partially modified antisense phosphorothioate oligonucleotides (PS-ODN), which are designed as scar formation inhibitor, was investigated using Franz Diffusion Cell. When the concentration ratio of PS-ODN-quarternary ammonium salt complex is more than 1:100, the apparent partition coefficient (APC) of each complex was increased in the following order; tetraphenyl phosphonium chloride (TPP) < cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide(CTAB) < benzalkonium chloride (BZ). The permeability of PS-ODN through the rat skin increased in the presence of BZ. The fluxs of PS-ODN with BZ were increased by addition of Pluronic F 68 or Triton X-100 to phosphate buffered saline (PBS), respectively. When the mole ratio of PS-ODN to BZ is 1:10, the fluxs penetrated of PS-ODN with BZ was greatest. The increase of the permeability in the presence of BZ might be due to the formation of lipophilic ion-pair complex between PS-ODN and BZ. By regulation of mole ratio of PS-ODN to BZ, the development of topical dosage forms using PS-ODN as scar formation inhibitor will be possible with minimal systemic exposure.

기능성 방청혼화제 혼입율 변화에 따른 모르타르의 방청성능 평가 (Evaluation of anti-rust properties of mortar with functionality anti-rust agent)

  • In this study, fundamental properties of mortar with the variation of dosage of anti-rust agent has been tested to evaluate the effect of the anti-rust agent. Dosage of anti-rust agent was fixed as 0,3,6,9%, respectively. The variation of the flow, compressive strength and diffusion speed of chloride ion has been tested to evaluate the effect of the anti-rust agent. Results showed that flow has been smally increased. For the compressive strength, compressive strength increased with the increase of dosage of agent. For the diffusion speed of chloride, the speed decreased with the increase of dosage of the anti-rust agent. For the overall consideration, it could be identified that when the dosage of anti-rust agent was fixed as 3-6%, the mortar showed the optimum performances.

물결합재비를 달리하여 제작한 메타카올린 혼입 콘크리트의 내구성능 평가 (Estimation on the Durability of Metakaolin Concrete According to the W/B Ratio)

  • 본 연구에서는 콘크리트 구조물의 강도 향상을 위하여 혼입하고 있는 메타카올린의 내구성능 향상 효과를 규명하기 위하여 염화물이온 확산계수 및 단열온도상승량을 측정하였다. 그 결과, 메타카올린의 혼입으로 인하여 염화물이온 확산계수가 작아짐이 확인되었으며 플라이 애쉬의 첨가를 통하여 유동성의 저하를 억제할 수 있었다. 따라서 염분침투저항성을 확보하면서 물결합재비를 크게 하는 것이 가능하므로 메타카올린의 혼입으로 발생되는 단열온도상승량을 억제할 수 있어 콘크리트의 내구성능이 향상될 수 있음을 확인하였다.

  • When concrete structures are exposed under marine condition for a long time, the steel in concrete is corroded due to the ingression of chlorides in the seawater. Because the damages of corrosion resulting from the chloride ion are very serious, many researches have been performed. However evaluation on chloride attack of concrete structures are not fully examined, recently. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to study the applicability of colormetric method. For the purpose of this, reaction mechanism of colormetric method were investigated, and the colormetric method is applied for marine concrete structures. According to the test results, the diffusion coefficient by colormetric method is not so different to the value of chloride concentration profile test. It is confirmed that the colormetric method is useful tool for estimating the chloride of concrete structures in situ. The average chloride amount of colored parts indicates 0.9kg/$m^{3}$ per concrete unit weight.

  • Corrosion inhibitors are widely used to protect chloride-induced corrosion of reinforcement in concrete. However, the number of researches on the corrosion of reinforcement, when corrosion inhibitor is used, is not enough for actual application in the field. In addition, on corrosion of reinforcement a quantitative standard about corrosion inhibitor does not exist and the data about its influencing concrete are relatively rare. In this study, the effectiveness of rebar corrosion protection, setting time, compressive strength, chloride ion's penetration, and diffusion test were performed using with three different kinds of corrosion inhibitors.

등방성 및 이방성 균열을 가진 콘크리트의 염화물 확산계수 모델링 (Modeling on Chloride Diffusivity in Concrete with Isotropic and Anisotropic Crack)

  • 균열을 가진 콘크리트에서는 균열폭으로 유입되는 염화물 이온에 의해 열화가 가속화된다. 본 연구는 균열을 가진 콘크리트의 염화물 확산에 대한 모델링으로, 정상상태를 가정하여 1차원 (이방성) 및 2차원 (등방성) 균열 모델링을 수행하였다. 기존의 균열 모델링에서는 직사각형 균열패턴으로 모델링을 수행하였으나, 본 연구에서는 조도를 가진 쐐기형 형태로 균열을 모델링하였다. 검증을 위하여 1차원 유입에 대해서는 콘크리트 시편에 균열을 유입하여 염화물 영동실험을 수행하였으며, 2차원 유입에 대해서는 기존의 실험결과를 이용하여 검증을 수행하였다. 모든 경우에서 균열형태를 쐐기형으로 고려하여 염화물 확산성이 감소되었으며, 조도를 고려함으로서 합리적인 결과가 도출되었다. 특히 0.10~0.15의 조도계수를 고려할 때, 실험값에 가장 근접한 결과를 나타내었다.

막분리 기술을 위한 액체염료 제조에 관한 연구 (Preparation of Storage-Stable Liquid Dyes by Membrane Separation Technology)

  • 염료속에 함유된 무기염(NaCl, $Na_2SO_4$)의 선택적 제거를 위해 역확산과 역삼투를 결합한 방법과 nanofiltration(NF)을 각각 이용하였다. 역확산에 의한 염의 제거율은 염의 종류에 따라 1회(one pass)에 1~30%를 나타냈으며 염과 염료의 분리비는 10~500의 매우 큰 값을 갖는 반면 염료의 손실율은 0.3% 이하였다. 염료용액을 순환시킬수록 음이온인 $Cl^-$ 이온의 제거율이 증가하고 양이온인 $Na^+$ 이온의 제거율이 감소하는 도난투석현상이 관찰되었다. 또한 공급용액의 유속이 염의 제거에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 역확산에 의해 염이 제거된 염료를 평판형 역삼투막을 사용하여 농축하였으며 $Cl^-$ 이온의 배제율을 solution-diffusion 모델식에 적용하였다 2회의 Diafiltration(DF)을 수행한 NF에서도 역확산에서와 마찬가지로 도난투석에 의해 $Cl^-$ 이온의 배제율 감소와 음배제율을 관찰하였다. 특히 두번째 DF에서 도난투석의 효과는 더욱 크게 나타났다.

유무기 복합형 내구성개선제가 콘크리트 물성에 미치는 효과에 대한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study for Effect Organic/Inorganic Hybrid based Durability Promoting Agent(DPA) on the Properites of concrete)

  • 해안 구조물의 내구성 개선을 위해서는 염해저항성이 요구되므로 콘크리트의 수밀성 확보, 균열저항성 및 염소이온을 고정화하는 특성이 요구된다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 기존의 슬래그를 포함한 해안 콘크리트 배합에 유무기복합형 내구성 개선제(HD)를 적용하여 콘크리트의 시공성 및 강도발현에 미치는 영향과 함께 수축저항성이 및 내염해성에 미치는 효과를 파악하였다. HD의 적용에 따라 콘크리트의 수축저항성 및 내염해성이 개선되었으며, 특히 0.6% 적용 시 기존 슬래그를 포함한 배합보다 수축저항성 및 내염해성의 개선효과가 더욱 두드러진 것으로 확인되었다.

A Hydration based Model for Chloride Penetration into Slag blended High Performance Concrete

  • To improve the chloride ingress resistance of concrete, slag is widely used as a mineral admixture in concrete industry. And currently, most of experimental investigations about non steady state diffusion tests of chloride penetration are started after four weeks standard curing of concrete. For slag blended concrete, during submerged chloride penetration tests periods, binder reaction proceeds continuously, and chloride diffusivity decreases. However, so far the dependence of chloride ingress on curing ages are not detailed considered. To address this disadvantage, this paper shows a numerical procedure to analyze simultaneously binder hydration reactions and chloride ion penetration process. First, using a slag blended cement hydration model, degree of reactions of binders, combined water, and capillary porosity of hardening blended concrete are determined. Second, the dependences of chloride diffusivity on capillary porosity of slag blended concrete are clarified. Third, by considering time dependent chloride diffusivity and surface chloride content, chloride penetration profiles in hardening concrete are calculated. The proposed prediction model is verified through chloride immersion penetration test results of concrete with different water to binder ratios and slag contents.
