This paper examines the existence of value premium in the Chinese stock markets and empirically provides its explanation. Our results suggest that the value premium does exist in the Chinese markets, and investor sophistication is significant in explaining its existence. In particular, there is supporting evidence that the value premium could be driven by individual investors, whereas stocks that are mostly held by institutional investors are value-premium free. We briefly discuss the implications of our findings.
Studied was a strategic plan for the Korean High-Speed Train system to penetrate the Chinese railway market in exchange of the technology of KHST. Firstly, taken was a glance at Chinese Government plans to extend total length of his railway lines and to construct the Beijing~Shanghai high-speed railway line. Then, disparity of railway technology in Korea and China was reviewed. From the review, SWOT Analysis were carried out to penetrate the foreign markets. Countermeasures to cope with SWOT were also considered. Strategical governmental supports and the establishment of the special organization to be in charge of penetration of KHST into foreign markets were proposed. Finally, also proposed was the transfer of KHST technology to Chinese counterparts in exchange of tangible benefits for Korean side. The benefits may include (1) adoption of KHST as the type of rolling stock for the Beijing~Shanghai line, (2) guarantee of participation in the project and royalty for the KHST technology used for the future high-speed railway line construction, (3) prior written approval and partnership when making its way to third country, and (4) participation of Korean construction companies in Chinese railway construction project, etc. Adoption of KHST in China indeed gives chance to integrate the high-speed railway network after reunification of Korean peninsular, and enhance the economic ties between two countries.

This paper explores the mean and volatility spillover effects among Chinese, Korean, and the U.S. stock markets during the Asian and global financial crises. We found that, during the Asian Financial crisis, there was no mean spillover effect to the Chinese stock markets. However, there were reciprocal mean spillover effects between the U.S. and the Korean market. This implies that Korean market was open, while Chinese market was secluded from the international financial market at that time. The negative volatility spillover effect between the U.S. and China reinforces this finding. During the global financial crisis, there was reciprocal mean spillover effect between the U.S. and China, and between the U.S. and Korea. This may reflect the fact that Chinese market has opened to the international financial market. However, the volatility spillover effect does not exist between China and the U.S., while the U.S. and Korea has reciprocal volatility spillover effect to each other. These findings may imply that China is still in the process of opening her stock market to international investors.

This study analyzed how interdependence between China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore stock markets changed after the implementation of Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect system using the EGARCH-GED model that allow simultaneous analysis of return and variability. Since the implementation of this system, the interdependence of Taiwan stock market with the Greater China stock markets has been weakened, and the interdependence of Singapore's stock market with the Greater China stock markets has not been exist. On the other hand, he interdependence between China and Hong Kong stock markets has been shown to be significantly enhanced since the implementation of this system. This is appears to be the result of improved conditions for Chinese and Hong Kong investors to invest in the two stock markets following the implementation of this system. Thus, considering the portfolio investment in the Greater China stock markets, the investors will need to develop their investment strategies in light of these facts that the weakening interdependence of the Taiwan and Singapore securities markets and the strengthening interdependence of the Chinese and Hong Kong securities markets.

The growth of digital news media and the stock price index has resulted in economic fluctuations in the fashion industry. This study examines the impact of fashion industry news and macroeconomic changes on the Textile & Wearing Apparel KOSPI over the past five years. An auto-regressive integrated moving average exogenous time series model was conducted using the fashion industry stock market index, the news topic index, and macro-economic indicators. The results indicated the topics of "Cosmetic business expansion" and "Digital innovation" impacted the Textile & Wearing Apparel KOSPI after one week, and the topics of "Pop-up store," "Entry into the Chinese fashion market," and "Fashion week and trade show" affected it after two weeks. Moreover, the topics of "Cosmetic business expansion" and "Entry into the Chinese fashion market" were statistically significant in the macroeconomic environment. Regarding the effect relation of Textile & Wearing Apparel KOSPI, "Cosmetic business expansion," "Entry into the Chinese fashion market," and consumer price fluctuation showed negative effects, while the private consumption change rate, producer price fluctuation, and unemployment change rate had positive effects. This study analyzes the impact of media framing on fashion industry business cycles and provides practical insights into managing stock market risk for fashion companies.

The paper aims to test long-term and short-term causality from four exchange rates, the Korean won/$US, the Korean won/Euro, the Korean won/Japanese yen, and the Korean won/Chinese yuan, to the Korea Composite Stock Price Index in the presence of several macroeconomic variables using monthly data from January 1986 to June 2018. The results of Johansen cointegration tests show that there exists at least one cointegrating equation, which indicates that long-run causality from an exchange rate to the Korean stock market will exist. The results of vector error correction estimates show that: for long-term causality, the coefficient of the error correction term is significant with a negative sign, that is, long-term causality from exchange rates to the Korean stock market is observed. For short-term causality, the coefficient of the Japanese yen exchange rate is significant with a positive sign, that is, short-term causality from the Japanese yen exchange rate to the Korean stock market is observed. The coefficient of the financial crises i.e. 1997-1999 Asian financial crisis and 2007-2008 global financial crisis on the endogenous variables in the model and the Korean economy is significant. The result indicates that the financial crises have considerably affected the Korean economy, especially a negative effect on money supply.

After global economic crisis, China has become one of the two pillars in the global economies and the country contributing to the Korean economy. Nevertheless, the research on Chinese financial market, particularly capital market, is rare to date. This study examined the growth enterprise market that emergedat the Shenzhen stock exchange and made comparative analysis on before and after listing for the Chinese small and medium sized firms and venture firms. The listing requirements at the Chinese growth enterprise market for the technologically innovative venture firms and fast-growing small and medium sized firms with financing purpose were more alleviated than the main board of Shenzhen stock exchange. Moreover, the listing procedures are simplified as well. Accordingly, many Chinese enterprises tend to list and the competition for listing is also intense. In particular, with the 36 initially listed firms at growth enterprise market as the research target, the investigation for the business performance before and after listing reveals that the three indexes including return on common equity, debt ratio and operating profit growth rate dropped dramatically for most all the firms. That is, the profitability and growth for the venture firms and small and medium sized firms listed on the Chinese growth enterprise market decreased rapidly after going public, only the stability improved due to the great financing. Taking a step forward, this phenomenon may result from the exaggerated reporting for the business performance before listing with the purpose of going public by the venture firms and small and medium sized firms. Thus, Chinese Securities Regulatory Commission should strengthen the accounting evaluation standard and regulation for the listing firms before going public. In addition, strict sanctions should be imposed on the firms with fraudulent accounting to establish healthy capital market.
Using high-frequency data for 2 years, this study investigates intraday lead-lag relationship between stock index and stock index futures markets in Korea and China. We found that there are some differences in price discovery and volatility transmission between Korea and China after the stock index futures markets was introduced. Following Stoll-Whaley(1990) and Chan(1992), the multiple regression is estimated to examine the lead-lag patterns between the two markets by Newey-West's(1987) heteroskedasticity and autocorrelation consistent covariance matrix(HAC matrix). Empirical results of KOSPI 200 shows that the futures market leads the cash market and weak evidence that the cash market leads the futures market. New market information disseminates in the futures market before the stock market with index arbitrageurs then stepping in quickly to bring the cost-of-carry relation back into alignment. The regression tests for the conditional volatility which is estimated using EGARCH model do not show that there is a clear pattern of the futures market leading the stock market in terms of the volatility even though controlling nonsynchronous trading effects. This implies that information in price innovations that originate in the futures market is transmitted to the volatility of the cash market. Empirical results of CSI 300 shows that the cash market is found to play a more dominant role in the price discovery process after the Chinese index started a sharp decline immediately after the stock index futures were introduced. The new stock index futures markets does not function well in its price discovery performance at its infancy stage, apparently due to high barriers to entry into this emerging futures markets. Based on EGAECH model, the results uncover strong bi-directional dependence in the intraday volatility of both markets.
As a sign of international quality system, ISO9000 certification has been adopted by more and more enterprises. In recent five years, there have been 560,000 certified companies in Europe and America, and there have been more than 390,000 ones in China. It has being attracted many quality scholars' attentions whether ISO9000 certification can bring more benefits to certified companies or not. This paper investigates the ISO9000 certification effect on market performance by the samples from Chinese list companies in shanghai stock exchange. Considering ISO9000 certification as an event, a certification effect model will be set up by means of the event study method, which takes abnormal return rate as a basic indicator to measure the ISO9000 certification effect on Chinese market performance in different event times. Investigation results show that the Chinese certified companies have some positive effects on market performance in the short term. From a long standpoint, the relation between certification and performance has a positive trend.
