  • This study was to determine the correlation between endothelial function and neuro-endocrine-immune (NEI) network through observing the changes of NEI network under the different endothelial dysfunction models. Three endothelial dysfunction models were established in male Wistar rats after exposure to homocysteine (Hcy), high fat diet (HFD) and Hcy+HFD. The results showed that there was endothelial dysfunction in all three models with varying degrees. However, the expression of NEI network was totally different. Interestingly, treatment with simvastatin was able to improve vascular endothelial function and restored the imbalance of the NEI network, observed in the Hcy+HFD group. The results indicated that NEI network may have a strong association with endothelial function, and this relationship can be used to distinguish different risk factors and evaluate drug effects.

  • In East-South Asia it has been widely known that Korean ginseng(Panax ginseng) increases body temperature, whereas American ginseng(Panax quinquefolius) decreases it. This study was designed to find out if Korean ginseng could increase body temperature comparing with American ginseng. Double-blind randomized controlled trials on body temperature of Korean ginseng and American ginseng in Koreans and Chineses was performed by using electronic thermometer at the ear. There was no significant difference between Korean ginseng and American ginseng in Koreans as well as Chineses by repeated-measures ANOVA. It was revealed that Korean ginseng does not increase body temperature. Maybe the concept that Korean ginseng increase body temperature is concerned with commercial interests dealing with American Ginseng.

  • Background: The leaves and roots of Panax ginseng are rich in ginsenosides. However, the chemical compositions of the leaves and roots of P. ginseng differ, resulting in different medicinal functions. In recent years, the aerial parts of members of the Panax genus have received great attention from natural product chemists as producers of bioactive ginsenosides. The aim of this study was the isolation and structural elucidation of novel, minor ginsenosides in the leaves of P. ginseng and evaluation of their antiinflammatory activity in vitro. Methods: Various chromatographic techniques were applied to obtain pure individual compounds, and their structures were determined by nuclear magnetic resonance and high-resolution mass spectrometry, as well as chemical methods. The antiinflammatory effect of the new compounds was evaluated on lipopolysaccharide-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. Results and conclusions: Two novel, minor triterpenoid saponins, ginsenoside $LS_1$ (1) and 5,6-didehydroginsenoside $Rg_3$ (2), were isolated from the leaves of P. ginseng. The isolated compounds 1 and 2 were assayed for their inhibitory effect on nitric oxide production in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells, and Compound 2 showed a significant inhibitory effect with $IC_{50}$ of $37.38{\mu}M$ compared with that of NG-monomethyl-L-arginine ($IC_{50}=90.76{\mu}M$). Moreover, Compound 2 significantly decreased secretion of cytokines such as prostaglandin $E_2$ and tumor necrosis factor-${\alpha}$. In addition, Compound 2 significantly suppressed protein expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase and cyclooxygenase-2. These results suggested that Compound 2 could be used as a valuable candidate for medicinal use or functional food, and the mechanism is warranted for further exploration.

  • The 14-3-3 proteins are highly conserved, ubiquitous molecules involved in a variety of biologic phenomena, such as cell cycle control, and apoptosis. However, their expression in cholangiocarcinoma has not been previously characterized. In this paper, immunohistochemistry using specific anti-14-3-3 monoclonal antibodies was performed on formalin-fixed;, paraffin embedded archival tissue from 86 patients of cholangiocarcinoma. We also examined the correlation between expression and survival rate and clinicopathologic factors such as tumor location, tumor size, pathologic differentiation, lymphatic permeation, lymph node metastasis, and tumor stage. Positive 14-3-3 proteins expression was observed for 6 isoforms (${\beta}$, ${\sigma}$, ${\gamma}$, ${\theta}$, ${\delta}$, ${\eta}$) of these proteins in 86 patients of cholangiocarcinoma. ${\beta}$ and ${\sigma}$ isoform immunoreactivity was correlated with lymph node metastasis, tumor stage and patients' survival rate. In addition, ${\delta}$ isoform immunoreactivity showed trends with tumor location, tumor size, pathologic differentiation and tumor stage, while the ${\theta}$ isoform was correlated with pathologic differentiation. These results indicated that upregulated expression of some isoforms of 14-3-3 may be a common mechanism for evading apoptosis in cholangiocarcinoma, so that targeting 14-3-3 may be a novel promising strategy for the treatment of this tumor.

  • Gi(氣) transformation theory is the foundation of Traditional Chinese Medicine[TCM]. This theory matured during the period of "Hwangjenaegyeong(黃帝內經)", and later in the history of TCM was a source of significant impact on the development process and direction of general medical theory. The concept of "gi transformation[氣化]" mainly originates from the definition of the three levels which are nature, the relationship between nature and human, and the body's own metabolism, and is used to describe the usage and the resulting changes of 'gi(氣)'. Gi transformation possesses six characteristics which are permanence, universality, representationalism, directional, variability, and orderliness. The research of the concept and characteristics of gi transformation[氣化] in "Hwangjenaegyeong" will help identify the important academic value and practical significance of the formation of the basic theory of TCM as the result of the gi transformation theory, and highlight the unique characteristics of TCM.

  • Viola tianshanica Maxim, belonging to the Violaceae plant family, is traditionally used in Uighur medicine for treating pneumonia, headache, and fever. There is, however, a lack of basic understanding of its pharmacological activities. This study was designed to observe the effects of the ethanol extract (TSM) from Viola tianshanica Maxim on the inflammation response in acute lung injury (ALI) induced by LPS and the possible underlying mechanisms. We found that TSM (200 and 500 mg/kg) significantly decreased inflammatory cytokine production and the number of inflammatory cells, including macrophages and neutrophils, in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. TSM also markedly inhibited the lung wet-to-dry ratio and alleviated pathological changes in lung tissues. In vitro, after TSM ($12.5-100{\mu}g/ml$) treatment to RAW 264.7 cells for 1 h, LPS ($1{\mu}g/ml$) was added and the cells were further incubated for 24 h. TSM dose-dependently inhibited the levels of proinflammatory cytokines, such as NO, $PGE_2$, $TNF-{\alpha}$, IL-6, and $IL-1{\beta}$, and remarkably decreased the protein and mRNA expression of $TNF-{\alpha}$ and IL-6 in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. TSM also suppressed protein expression of $p-I{\kappa}Ba$ and p-ERK1/2 and blocked nuclear translocation of $NF-{\kappa}B$ p65. The results indicate that TSM exerts anti-inflammatory effects related with inhibition on $NF-{\kappa}B$ and MAPK (p-ERK1/2) signaling pathways. In conclusion, our data demonstrate that TSM might be a potential agent for the treatment of ALI.

  • Treasured Mirror of Eastern Medicine was written by Heo Joon in 1610 and published in 1613, it was stored in the Library of Seoul University. It quotes more than 190 ancient Chinese books including mostly those of medicine. The author discusses mainly the theory of herbal formulas and its numbers comparing formulas between quotation and original text in Zhu Zhongjing's formula. Prescriptions from the Great Peace Imperial Grace Pharmacy, Effective Formulas Handed Down for Generations and Recovery from All Ailments. Through comparison it's found that there are five correlations between quotation and original. That shows a affinity relation in traditional medicine between China and Korea and a historical visage that Korean doctors followed Chinese medicine and tried to further development from it.

  • The prognostic value of the fibroblast growth factor-inducible 14 (Fn14) expression in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is unknown. Real-time PCR (RT-PCR), western blot assays and immunohistochemistry analysis were here performed in order to compare Fn14 expressios in paired liver samples of HCC and normal liver tissue. Most of the tumor tissues expressed significantly higher levels of Fn14 compared to adjacent non-tumor tissues, with Fn14High accounting for 54.6% (142/260) of all patients. The Pearson ${\chi}^2$ test indicated that Fn14 expression was closely associated with serum alpha fetal protein (AFP) (P=0.002) and tumor number (p=0.019). Univariate and multivariate analyses revealed that along with tumor diameter and portal vein tumor thrombosis (PVTT ) type, Fn14 was an independent prognostic factor for both overall survival (OS) (HR=1.398, p=0.008) and recurrence (HR=1.541, p=0.001) rates. Fn14 overexpression HCC correlated with poor surgical outcome, and this molecule may be a candidate biomarker for prognosis as well as a target for therapy.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the country image, the country attitude, the medical service attitude and the use intention about international medical service market in china and how these factors are related to one another. Data were collected from 609 chinese consumers who have known international medical service. We found the country image about international medical service institute has direct relation to the country attitude, the medical service attitude and use intention. And the country attitude influences the medical service attitude and use intention. However the medical service attitude of international medical service is not related to use intention. For a successful international medical service business, marketer should recognize that it is important to formulate the policy using the country image as well as the corporation image.

For this study, the concrete matters are prepared for investigation as follows: First, the contents of prenatal education are analyzed with special reference to the Chinese bibliography and the Korean bibliography related to its own traditional prenatal education. Second, the contents of taboo in prenatal education are broadly classified into Chun-ki(天忌), Chi-ki(地忌), and In-ki(人忌), and in turn, In-ki is classified into taboo related to clothing, taboo related to food, Taboo related to housing, and man's taboo, and all of them are interpreted. Third, the characteristics of taboo in the Korean traditional prenatal education and its principle are analyzed, and its significance is researched from the modern educational point of view. This study attempts to classify the contents of taboo into Chun-ki, Chi-ki, In-ki, and man's taboo based upon analysis of the documentary records related to the traditionary prenatal education in China and Korea for the successful investigation. The characteristic such as common discipline, the time limit and prevention are induced on the basis of this investigation, and its modern educational significance as follows: First, prenatal education must be conduced as a part of youth education and preparatory parents education for the married couple. Second, man or husband plays a very important role of practising taboo in prenatal education. Third, taboo in prenatal education is very suggestive in the aspect of human relationship and mental health of the pregnant woman. Fourth, it prevents her obesity and strain. Fifth, the scientific proof and education of taboo related to food must be needed.
