The Comparison Analysis of Contents on the Children's Library Websites (어린이 도서관 웹사이트 컨텐츠 비교 분석)

  • In this study we analyzed contents in terms of contents, menu, and labeling system to support the functions of children's library websites as an access tool to its contents. As a result, the main menu structure consisted of 15 categories that are commonly provided by 31 existing children's websites. Second, first-level categories consisted of total 57 categories under 15 main menu categories. The results showed that the contents in children's website design should consider the goals and function of children's library. Also the study implied that the contents provided by the site should use consistent and standardized menu structure and labels.

Development of a Nutrition Education Website for Children (초등학생 대상의 영양교육 웹사이트 개발)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a nutrition education website for children, especially those around the 4th-6th grade levels. Among the already existing websites providing nutritional information for children, 7 websites with comparable amounts of information were evaluated in terms of their topics, credibility, content, ease of use, and aesthetics. In addition, a survey was conducted to assess the need for nutrition information among 305 elementary students. The food pyramid was the topic offered most often on those websites. Information on nutrients, digestion, food safety, nutrition labeling, and healthy eating habits were available on the websites. Some of those websites also provided games or quizzes to attract the children's interest. However, seine of the websites did not give any information on the person responsible for providing the information, which is most important in determining the credibility of the website. Other problems were that some information was too difficult for children, and some of the websites did not provide a way to search for information. According to the survey results, the topics that children wanted to know about were‘desirable weight’,‘cooking’,‘correct food choice’,‘weight control method’,‘calories consumed during exercise’, but, they did not have a high interest in‘asking questions’‘books with nutrition messages’,‘under weight’,‘negative effect of weight control’and‘helping hungry children’. Based on these results, we developed a new nutrition education web-site, ifood’(http: //1 ifood.or.kr). We focused on helping children develop healthy eating habits by providing information which is easy and practical for children. However, we neither included the program to assess their dietary intake, nor provided entertaining background sounds, which children like. Also, the game section is composed mainly of quizzes. Therefore, we need to further develop exciting games to teach nutrition to children. In the near future, the newly developed website should be evaluated by children regarding understandability and coverage of the contents as well as usability and design, and then revised to improve the educational effect.

Development and Evaluation of a Nutrition Education Website for the Prevention and Management of Childhood Obesity (어린이의 비만 예방과 관리를 위한 영양교육 웹사이트 개발 및 평가)

  • Childhood obesity has rapidly increased worldwide and is one of the most serious health problems in this age group. In order to prevent and manage childhood obesity, we developed a nutrition education website. The website consisted of three parts. The first part was made for self-assessment with regard to obesity index, dietary habits, food frequency, dietary attitude, nutrition knowledge, nutrient intake, energy expenditure, and the stage of behavioral change, and tailored messages and advice according to the assessment results. A total of 612 real-size food photos as well as a nutrient database of 3,346 foods and 541 dishes were created to help children estimate nutrient intakes accurately. In addition, an energy expenditure database of 156 activities for children was established to calculate calorie consumption. The second part was made for setting long-term and short-term goals and keeping track of the changes in energy intake and expenditure in one's own page. The third part was made for education. Various types of nutrition information were provided; texts, pictures, calculators and games. The readability and design of the website were evaluated by 46 obese children. Usefulness, design and readability of the website were found to be desirable for children. This website is expected to be used by an obese child alone or with parents or nutrition teachers in order to control body weight through healthy dietary habits and physical activities. In addition, a non-obese child can also use this website for maintaining healthy dietary habits and preventing obesity.

An Analysis of User Satisfaction on a Case of D Children's Library Website (어린이도서관 웹사이트 이용자 만족도 분석: D 어린이도서관 사례중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the user satisfaction, royalty and compliant of a children's library Website. To achieve the aim of this study a modified Kim and Park's model of the user satisfaction index which consists of information quality, service quality, and system quality dimension is adopted. A total of 130 valid responses to the questionnaire were analysed using SPSS 18. It is found that the higher the user satisfaction gives the higher the royalty and the lower the compliant. For the contents quality dimension, the items of Usability, Accuracy, Easy of understand, Reliability and Up-to-date; for the service quality dimension, the items of Interface design, Reliability, Responsiveness, and Empathy; for the system quality dimension, the items of Response time, Interactive, Easy to access, and Easy to use show a significant relationships to the users' satisfaction.

An Educational Program Development for the Children's Guardian with Cochlear Implants (인공와우이식 환아의 보호자를 위한 교육프로그램 개발)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to develop an educational program for the children's guardian with cochlear implants in order to provide knowledge and information about cochlear implants. Methods: The educational program was developed based on a literature review, potentially relevant website analysis, and validation by an expert group. Two out of twenty-two educational items under four domains that had item-level content validity index (CVI) greater than 0.8 by the ten experts were finally selected and used. After the children's guardian participated in this educational activity through a specially designed booklet and DVD, the effectiveness of the program was evaluated. Results: A total of 8 children's guardian participated in the program. Their knowledge levels significantly increased after participating the program (mean $15.0{\pm}3.02$ vs. $19.0{\pm}0.93$, Z= 2.371, p=.018). Satisfaction levels with the program was high, $4.1{\pm}0.87$ out of 5. Conclusion: This newly developed educational program for the children's guardian with cochlear implants is proved to be effective and can be used in nursing practice. In addition, the participants seemed to be satisfied with the program. Furthermore, this program may also improve the effects of adult with cochlear implants.

  • 학습자 중심이라는 큰 장점을 가지고 급속도로 발전해 가는 온라인 교육의 세계적인 흐름에서 어린이 영어 교육사이트에 있어 어린이들에게 흥미를 높여주고 동기를 유발시키며, 추상적인 언어를 살아있게 해 주며, 적은 용량으로 애니메이션을 표현할 수 있는 플래시 애니메이션 활용의 필요성을 알아보았고, 기존 영어교육사이트의 플래시 애니메이션을 분석해 본 결과. 작업이 제대로 이루어지지 않아 동영상으로 보여줄 수 있는 상황의 이해, 학습동기 유발, 집중력 향상 등의 학습효과를 기대하기 어렵다. 사용자에 대한 많은 연구와 플래시 애니메이션의 적극적인 활용과 개선을 통해 어린이를 위한 온라인 영어 교육이 충분히 제 역할을 다 할 수 있는 계기가 되리라 기대한다.

  • This study was intended to reconsider the work song in the modem children's life and to search its utilization plan. For it, folk songs were collected from internet website("Search for Korean Forlk song") and books, then the proper work songs suitable for the purpose of the study were selected. Selected work songs were reformed in order to utilize in a daily life including infant daily life and play in the home with mother. That is, the work song was presented to be utilized while changing a diaper, massaging, taking a rest, letting children take a nap, whispering in the children's ears, taking a bath, exercising after the bath, doing a body play, and facing each other.

Development of a Educational Project-Based WebSite Using Multimedia Materials (멀티미디어 자료를 활용한 교육용 프로젝트기반 웹사이트 개발)

  • In spite of the fact that project-based learning has had positive effects on improvement of creation power and expansion of the spirit of inquiry, the project-based learning lesson was difficult to carry out in the classroom. The web overcomes time and space limitations in traditional schools. This study has developed and implemented an online project-based website of children's education, based upon the extensive classroom use of multimedia materials to further students participation and interest in projects of discovery. The developed website shows the entire process used through out the project. This paper presents the project's activities and students' learning, using multimedia and web. This study was conducted in fourth grade of an elementary school for a month. The results of this study suggest that the effects of using the project-based website were improved self-directed learning and generation of new ideas.

Spatial modeling of mortality from acute lower respiratory infections in children under 5 years of age in 2000-2017: a global study

  • Background: Over the past few decades, various goals have been defined to reduce the mortality of children caused by acute lower respiratory infections (ALRIs) worldwide. However, few spatial studies to date have reported on ALRI deaths. Purpose: We aimed to assess the spatial modeling of mortality from ALRI in children under 5 years of age during 2000-2017 using a global data. Methods: The data on the mortality of children under 5 years old caused by ALRI were initially obtained from the official website of the World Health Organization. The income status of their home countries was also gathered from the Country Income Groups (World Bank Classification) website and divided into 5 categories. After that, in the ArcGIS 10.6 environment, a database was created and the statistical tests and related maps were extracted. The Global Moran's I statistic, Getis-Ord Gi statistic, and geographically weighted regression were used for the analyses. In this study, higher z scores indicated the hot spots, while lower z scores indicated the cold spots. Results: In 2000-2017, child mortality showed a downward trend from 17.6 per 100,000 children to 8.1 and had a clustered pattern. Hot spots were concentrated in Asia in 2000 but shifted toward African countries by 2017. A cold spot that formed in Europe in 2007 showed an ascending trend by 2017. Based on the results of geographically weighted regression test, the regions identified as the hot spots of mortality from ALRI in children under 5 years old were among the middle-income countries (R2=0.01, adjusted R2=8.77). Conclusion: While the total number of child deaths in 2000-2017 has decreased, the number of hot spots has increased among countries. This study also concluded that, during the study period, Central and Western Africa countries became the main new hot spots of deaths from ALRI.
