  • In addition to exceptional abilities and domain-specific aptitudes, frequently creativity potentials are used to explain high achievements in science and technology. In the Guilford tradition, research focuses increasingly on convergent versus divergent thinking, that is, a suspected dichotomy between intelligence and creativity. Despite important insights from this about relationship of ability and creativity, a number of important questions remain unanswered. These relate not only to conceptualization and measurement problems regarding the hypothetical constructs "scientific ability" and "creativity", but also their diagnosis and nurturance in childhood and adolescence. It would appear that, in view of current research paradigms, the role of ability and creativity needs to be redefinded in order to more reliably predict and explain excellent achievements in science and technology. Advances are mostly expected from synthetic approaches. Thus, I will be presenting new theoretical models and empirical research results. Finally, consequences for the prediction and promotion of mathematical-scientific and technical talents will be discussed including the consideration of sex-related problems.

  • This study presents a meta-anlalytic review of 119 studies, published between 1990 and 2009, of gender differences and variables associated with overt and relational aggression during childhood and adolescence. Gender differences in overt aggression were found to be significantly higher in boys than girls, but significant gender differences in relational aggression were not found. Gender differences of only overt aggression are moderated by age and the reporter type. In general, both overt and relational aggression are more strongly related to maladjustment than adjustment. In addition to this, overt and relational aggression has both common and differential associations with relative levels of maladjustment and adjustment. The moderation of these effect sizes of both overt and relational aggression by age and the reporter type was found.

  • Introduction : Atopic dermatitis(AD) is chronic eczematous dermatitis which is related strongly to a family history of atopic disease and hereditary disposition. Adolescence and adult atopic dermatitis (AAD) patients have been overlooked because they were relatively small population and AAD were considered merely consecutive of infant and childhood AD. Objective : The purpose of this study was to estimate the efficacy of oriental medical treatment and management on chromic AAD with nummular eczema and breast eczema. Methods : We tented this case with herb-medication, herb-irrigation, acupuncture, negative therapy, full spectrum visible lay therapy (by carbon arc) and external application (SA1, Siwon Ilhwang-Go). We observed for 7 months. Results : The grades of the severity of AD with nummular eczema, breast eczema were lower only by the oriental medical treatments and managements. Conclusion : Considering the above results, more study is needed on the case with AAD with diffuse nummular eczema, effectiveness of external application and correlation between immunological and results of oriental media treatments.

  • The incidence of small for gestational age (SGA) births is frequent, accounting for 2.3% to 8% of all live births. Several childhood and adult diseases are related to early postnatal growth and birth size, and 10% of children born SGA may have a short stature throughout postnatal life. Additionally, they may have abnormal growth hormone (GH)-insulin like growth factor axis, HPA axis, and gonadal function. Permanent changes are detrimental in an environment of nutritional abundance, and predispose SGA children to an array of diseases in adolescence and adulthood. Such changes may also cause premature pubarche, adrenarche, and precocious puberty. The varying results from clinical studies necessitate more prospective case control studies. Reproductive tract abnormalities and reproductive dysfunction are related to SGA births. GH treatment is required for SGA infants who do not experience catch-up growth.

  • Hyperhidrosis of the palms and soles, regardless of race or sex, often occurs in the childhood or adolescence. Generally this symptom, whose definite cause is not known, worsens in the emotional state of anxiety and nervousness. Although this symptom is likely to interfere with one's daily life including career activities and to give a sense of mental oppression, no treatment is yet to bring a successful result. Amid the hyperhidrosis of the palms and soles patients, we applied 'bakhotang-gamibang' and acupuncture treatment to the three patients who has heat in the stomach. We hereby inform results of the improvement in the symptom of those patients.

Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD): Phenotypic, Genetic and Therapeutic Differences between Early-Onset and Adult-Onset IBD (소아기에 발병하는 염증성장질환(IBD)은 성인 IBD와 다른 질환인가? - 조기발병 소아 IBD의 역학적, 임상적, 유전학적 특성 및 치료 시 고려 사항-)

  • Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) develops during childhood or adolescence in approximately 25% of patients with IBD. Recent studies on pediatric IBD have revealed that early-onset IBD has distinct phenotype differences compared to adult onset IBD. Pediatric early-onset IBD differs in many aspects including disease type, location of the lesions, disease behavior, gender preponderance and genetically attributable risks. This review examines the currently published data on the clinical, epidemiological and genetic differences between early-onset and adult-onset IBD. And finally, therapeutic considerations in the management of pediatric-onset IBD are also discussed.

  • This study examined patterns of delinquent behavior trajectory from late childhood to early adolescence and examined relationships between patterns of trajectory and individual, family, and school factors. Youth delinquent behavior trajectories were examined by mixed growth models using data from the 2nd to 5th year surveys of the Seoul Panel Study of Children. Relationships between patterns and effect factors were examined by multinominal logit models. Four patterns emerged: non-delinquency (80%); rapidly accelerating delinquency (3.3%); decelerating delinquency (6.0%); and moderately accelerating (10.7%) groups. Contacts with a delinquent peer group had persistent effects on more serious delinquent behavior trajectories. Increased levels of self-esteem and school achievement prevented increase in delinquent behaviors; close relationships with parents and parental supervision caused decrease in delinquent behaviors.

  • Hallux valgus is a hereditary deformity whose natural history is influenced by intrinsic and extrinsic factors. The deformity is infrequently noticed in newborns and infants because of its trivial nature that does not draw attention. Because in childhood and adolescence this deformity usually does not lead to functional disability, it is seldom treated actively. Opinions differ concerning the causal relationship of these deformities and appropriate treatment. It is clear, however, that the deviated great toe continues to deform, and leads to a chain of anatomical and functional changes. Thus, the advantages of the immediate treatment is obvious, especially in infancy, when the foot is supple. We are reporting one case of congenital hallux valgus with brief review of literature.

  • There is a need for education that can be effectively education rather than one-sided audiovisual-oriented education. Serious games capable of contextual design and iterative training of various scenarios are easy to use and spread contents. The effects of safety education in childhood and adolescence, which are the most active periods of cognitive development, are most effective compared to other age group. The purpose of this study is to propose the guideline and components of the contents development for youth safety education using functional games.
