  • This study is designed to analyze the child's behaviour development and consider parent's expectation toward it. In the research of the aspect of child's behaviour development, first, this study will analyze the change and development a child shows according to his age, sex, and the community where he is brought up, and then, the relationship between child's behaviour development and parent's expectation toward it. (1) Child's Behaviour Development. a) According to Age. At the age of three ; In such behaviours as wiping nose, dressing, brushing teeth, putting on coat alone, going to toilet for B.M., going on errands, and playing contentedly alone, washing hands, greeting his elders, a child at the age of three to four shows a rapid development, and therefore it seems better to train a child in these behaviors age of three. At the age of four ; In such behaviors sharing cakes with friends, riding on a tricycle, a child shows great development, at the age of four to five, and therefore it seems better to train him in them at the age of four. At the age of five ; In such behaviors as combing hair, putting toys away in proper place, telephoning a child shows great development at the age of five to six, and therefore it seems better to train him in them at the age of five. b) According to sex and community. As a whole, there is little difference between sexes and the communities. It can be estimated from this that sex or the community has on the whole no great influence on the basic aspects of child's behavior development. (2) Parent's expectation. On the whole parent's expectation falls short of a child's development in behaviors ; especially, bathing himself, dressing, going to toilet for B.M, going to toilet to urinate, telephoning, etc. This tendency is consficuous in the case of three or four year old children. This results from parent's protecting in excess their children and reducing the opportunities to encourage the children's independence by delaying the babyhood. (3) The relationship between child's behaviour development and parent's expectation. a) On the whole, the behaviour of a child is at a higher level than parent's expectation. b) As a child grows from three years to six, his behaviour develops on the whole in accordance with the increase of parent's expectation. But the level of the former is lower than that of the latter. c) According to computing a coefficient of correlation is as follows. 3 years old ; .84 4 years old ; .90 5 years old ; .87 6 years old ; .89 It shows there is a high correlation between child's Behaviour and Parent's Expectation.

  • Objectives : This study was conducted to improve oral heath behaviour of child by analyzing child's mother oral health behaviour. Methods : A total of 361(95.0%) 3-year-old-child's mothers who sent their child to child care institution in Daegu were analyzed from October 1, 2009 to October 31, 2009. Results : 1. In relation to general nature and experience on oral health education of child's mother, mother with higher monthly income, over than graduation from university and professional job had high oral health education experience, which was statistically related(p<0.01)(p<0.001). 2. In the case of mother with oral health education experience, this mother had higher dental clinic visit for 1 year, higher experience on scaling, higher good food preference for teeth health and higher use of floss, which was statistically related(p<0.05)(p<0.01). 3. Regarding child's oral management behaviour by mother's oral health importance, in the case that oral health was important, flouride toothpaste use, restriction on cavity inducting food and toothbrushing before sleep were higher only, which was statistically related(p<0.05)(p<0.001). Conclusion : In case of mother with oral health education experience, this mother had experience on dental clinic visit for prevention of cavity, dental clinic visit for treatment and restriction on food in which their child's oral health behaviour were satisfactory, which was statistically related.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of EBD (Emotional and Behaviour Difficulties) and to examine relationships of EBD to family and classroom psychosocial functioning. Two studies were carried out. The subjects were 840 children aged 7 to 12 for the first study and 448 children aged 12 for the second study. CBQ for children's behaviour, FACES III for family functioning and a short version of CES for classroom functioning were used. The prevalence of EBD was 9.4% by parents, 10.6% by teachers and 2.1% by both on the basis of Korean cut-off points. It was 13.7%, 20.8% and 4.3%, respectively, based on England points. More children were identified as EBD in boys, in one-child families and in lower academic group. EBD tended to be higher with lower levels of psychosocial functioning but classroom-control. The relationships were more consistent and high with children's rather than adults' perception, and with teachers' rather than mothers' ratings. The findings were discussed in terms of the scale validity, the concept of 'open systems' and differences in the validity of ratings.

  • Eating behaviour disorder during early childhood is a common pediatric problem. Many terminologies have been used interchangeably to describe this condition, hindering implementation of therapy and confusing a common problem. The definition suggests an eating behaviour which has consequences for family harmony and growth. The recent Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition does not cover the entire spectrum seen by pediatricians. Publications are substantive but level of evidence is most of the time low. This purpose of this review is to clarify terminology of eating behaviour problems during early childhood; including benign picky eating, limited diets, sensory food aversion, selective eating, food avoidance emotional disorder, pervasive refusal syndrome, tactile defensiveness, functional dysphagia, neophobia and toddler anorexia. This tool is proposed only to ease the clinical management for child care providers. Diagnostic criteria are set and management tools are suggested. The role of dietary counselling and, where necessary, behavioural therapy is clarified. It is hoped that the condition will make its way into mainstream pediatrics to allow these children, and their families, to receive the help they deserve.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of the family health on the self-esteem and pro-social behaviour of children. The objects were 422 children who were 5th and 6th grade in primary school. The questionnaires were collected between June and July in 2006. T-test, Pearson's correlation and hierarchical multiple regression were used for data analysis. The results are as follows: First, the family health is higher than the average and also the self-esteem and pro-social behaviour of children are higher than the average. Second, the higher family's economic and parent's educational level, the higher family health and self-esteem of children. In addition, Female children have higher pro-social behaviour than male children. Third, family health has positive correlations with self-esteem and pro-social behaviour of children. Furthermore there is a positive correlation between the self-esteem and pro-social behaviour of children. Fourth, the self-esteem and pro-social behaviour of children are strongly influenced by the family health. As a consequence the family health is the principal variable which influences on the self-esteem and pro-social behaviour of children. This study shows that the healthy family support program is necessary in order to build up the positive self-esteem and pro-social behaviour of children.

  • This study addressed ways in which poverty factors are associated with child physical aggression and how these relationships are moderated by parenting behavior. Using a longitudinal approach, parental poverty status was measured when children were 5 months; the Parenting Behaviour Questionnaire (Boivin et al., 2000) was administered when children were 17 months; and mothers reported child physical aggression behaviors when the children were 60 months. Using structure equation modeling analyses, the results of this study confirmed that parenting behavior is a mediator of the linkage between poverty and child physical aggression, showing the urgent need for early intervention for impoverished children.

  • In order to analyze the human figure drawings of children with emotional and behavioural problems, the Preschool Behaviour Checklist (McGuire & Richman, 1988) was administered to 300 6-year-old children from which 15 boys and 15 girls with emotional and behavioural problems and 15 boys and 15 girls without problems were selected for the target and comparison groups, respectively. Compared with children without emotional and behavioural problems, the human figure drawings of the disturbed children included immature eye drawings; immature liaison of body and arms or legs; no hair; strong and repeated lines; unbalanced arms and legs; unbalanced size of face, body, arms, and legs; and the size of the human figure less than a fifth of the sheet of paper. These results imply that the human figure drawing test is an efficient way to screen children's emotional and behavioural problems.

  • The present research investigated the relationship between social competence and behaviour problems of children with mental retardation. Participants were 73 from both regular and special education schools. Social competence and behaviour problems were measured using the Teacher-Child Rating Scale. An important findings of this study described as the following. First, there were no significant differences in social competence and behaviour problems between boys and girls. Second, there were moderate significant differences in social competence between lower and higher grade children with mental retardation. Children who are higher grade had a significantly more social competence when compared with children who are lower grade. But there are no significant differences in behaviour problems between lower and higher grade. Third, there were moderate significant differences in social competence between lower and higher IQ children with mental retardation. Children who are higher IQ had a significantly higher level of social competence and significantly lower level of behaviour problems, when compared with children who are lower IQ. Forth, there were moderate significant differences in social competence between the regular schools and special education groups. Children who attended special education schools had a significantly higher level of social competence and significantly lower level of behaviour problems, when compared with children who attended regular schools. Fifth, social competence of children with mental retardation was negatively related to behaviour problems. These findings suggest that characteristics of social competence and behaviour problems of students with mental retardation should be considered in order to successfully implement social competence interventions of students with mental retardation.
