  • This paper presents a fast algorithm of integer discrete cosine transform(IDCT) allowing VLSI implementation by integer arithmetic. The proposed fast algorithm has been developed using Chen`s matrix decomposition in DCT, and requires less number of arithmetic operations compared to the IDCT. In the presented algorithm, the number of addition number is the same as the one of Chen`s algorithm if DCT, and the number of multiplication if the same as that in DCT at N=8 but drastically decreasing when N is above 8. In addition, the drawbacks of DCT such as performance degradation at the finite length arithmetic could be overcome by the IDCT.

  • In this paper, an optimal allocation method of a hybrid active power filter in an active distribution network is designed based on the differential evolution algorithm to resolve the harmonic generation problem when a distributed generation system is connected to the grid. A distributed generation system model in the calculation of power flow is established. An improved back/forward sweep algorithm and a decoupling algorithm are proposed for fundamental power flow and harmonic power flow. On this basis, a multi-objective optimization allocation model of the location and capacity of a hybrid filter in an active distribution network is built, and an optimal allocation scheme of the hybrid active power filter based on the differential evolution algorithm is proposed. To verify the effect of the harmonic suppression of the designed scheme, simulation analysis in an IEEE-33 nodes model and an experimental analysis on a test platform of a microgrid are adopted.

  • The demand for indoor positioning is increasing day by day. However, the widely used positioning methods today cannot satisfy the requirements of the indoor environment in terms of the positioning accuracy and deployment cost. In the existing research domain, the localization algorithm based on three-dimensional space is less accurate, and its robustness is not high. Visible light communication technology (VLC) combines lighting and positioning to reduce the cost of equipment deployment and improve the positioning accuracy. Further, it has become a popular research topic for telecommunication and positioning in the indoor environment. This paper proposes a surface centroid TOA localization algorithm based on the VLC system. The algorithm uses the multiple solutions estimated by the trilateration method to form the intersecting planes of the spheres. Then, it centers the centroid of the surface area as the position of the unknown node. Simulation results show that compared with the traditional TOA positioning algorithm, the average positioning error of the surface centroid TOA algorithm is reduced by 0.3243 cm and the positioning accuracy is improved by 45%. Therefore, the proposed algorithm has better positioning accuracy than the traditional TOA positioning algorithm, and has certain application value.

  • As the community antenna television (CATV) networks becomes ubiquitous, instead of constructing an entirely new broadband network infrastructure, it has emerged as one of the rapid and economic technologies to interconnecting heterogeneous network to provide broadband access to subscribers. How to support ubiquitous real-time multimedia applications, especially in a heavy traffic environment, becomes a critical issue in modern CATV networks. In this paper, we propose a time guaranteed and efficient upstream minislots allocation algorithm for supporting quality-of-service (QoS) traffic over data over cable service interface specification (DOCSIS) CATV networks to fulfill the needs of realtime interactive services, such as video telephony, video on demand (VOD), distance learning, and so on. The proposed adaptive fast expansion algorithm and the loading statistics with dynamic swapping algorithm have been shown to perform better than that of the multimedia cable network system (MCNS) DOCSIS.

  • In recent years has been an increasing interest with respect to using the discrete cosine transform(DCT) of which performance is found close to that of the Karhumen-Loeve transform, known to be optimal in the area of digital image processing for tha purpose of the image data compression. Among most of reported algorithms aimed at lowering the coputation complexity. Chen's algorithm is is found to be most popular, Recently, Lee proposed a now algorithm of which the computational complexity is lower than that of Chen's. but its performance is significantly degraded by FWL(Finite-Word-Lenght) effects as a result of employinga a fixed-poing arithmetic. In this paper performance evaluation of these two algorithms and error analysis of FWL effect are described. Also a scaling technique which we call Up & Down-scaling is proposed to allevaiate a performance degradation due to fixed-point arithmetic. When the 16x16point 2DCT is applied on image data and a 16-bit fixed-point arithmetic is employed, both the analysis and simulation show that is colse to that of Chen's.

  • The main purpose to introduce model based controller in proposed control technique is to provide better and fast learning of the floating dynamics by means of fuzzy logic controller and also cancelling effect of nonlinear terms of the system. An iterative adaptive dynamic programming algorithm is proposed to deal with the optimal trajectory-tracking control problems for autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV). The optimal tracking control problem is converted into an optimal regulation problem by system transformation. Then the optimal regulation problem is solved by the policy iteration adaptive dynamic programming algorithm. Finally, simulation example is given to show the performance of the iterative adaptive dynamic programming algorithm.

  • In this paper, we focus on the pinwheel task model with a variable voltage processor with d discrete voltage/speed levels. We propose an intra-task DVS algorithm, which constructs a minimum energy schedule for k tasks in O(d+k log k) time We also give an inter-task DVS algorithm with O(d+n log n) time, where n denotes the number of jobs. Previous approaches solve this problem by generating a canonical schedule beforehand and adjusting the tasks' speed in O(dn log n) or O($n^3$) time. However, the length of a canonical schedule depends on the hyper period of those task periods and is of exponential length in general. In our approach, the tasks with arbitrary periods are first transformed into harmonic periods and then profile their key features. Afterward, an optimal discrete voltage schedule can be computed directly from those features.

  • We present an application of digital video images for object tracking. In order to track a fixed object, which was shoot on a moving vehicle, this study develops a shape-based matching algorithm to implement the tracking task. Because the shape-based matching algorithm has scale and rotation invariant characteristics, therefore it can be used to calculate the similarity between two variant shapes. An experiment is performed to track the ship object in the open sea. The result shows that the proposed method can track the object in the video images even the shape change largely.

  • The Location-Based Service (LBS) is one of the most well-known services on the Internet. Positioning is the primary association with LBS services. This study proposes an intelligent LoRa-based positioning system, called AI@LBS, to provide accurate location data. The fingerprint mechanism with the clustering algorithm in unsupervised learning filters out signal noise and improves computing stability and accuracy. In this study, data noise is filtered using the DBSCAN (Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise) algorithm, increasing the positioning accuracy from 95.37% to 97.38%. The problem of data imbalance is addressed using the SMOTE (Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique) technique, increasing the positioning accuracy from 97.38% to 99.17%. A field test in the NTUST campus (www.ntust.edu.tw) revealed that AI@LBS system can reduce average distance error to 0.48m.

  • This study investigates an effective approach to stabilize nonlinear systems. To ensure the asymptotic nonlinear stability in nonlinear discrete-time systems, the present study presents controller for an EBA (Evolved Bat Algorithm) NN (fuzzy neural network) in the algorithm. In fuzzy evolved NN modeling, the auxiliary circuit with high frequency LDI (linear differential inclusions) and NN model representation is developed for the nonlinear arbitrary dynamics. An example is utilized to demonstrate the system more robust compared with traditional control systems.
