  • We report on the opto-electronic properties of red, green, and blue poly (fluorene) co-polymer light-emitting devices (PLEDs) fabricated on a flexible plastic substrate. The plastic substrate used has a multi-layer structure with water vapor and oxygen transmission rates of less than $10^{-5}$ g/$cm^2$-day-atm and $10^{-7}$ cc/$cm^2$-day-atm, respectively. We obtained a wide range of color gamut and a maximum emission efficiency of 0.7, 10, and 1.7 cd/A for red, green, and blue PLEDs, respectively. Finally, a simple equivalent circuit model is proposed to simulate PLED current density-voltage characteristics.

  • Parameters of soluble solids, amino acids, catechins, and color difference of 24 green tea samples from China and Korea were determined. The levels of soluble solids, amino acids, total catechins, and infusion lightness in tea samples from Korea were higher than those from China. Concentrations of epigallocatechin galate and epigallocatechin in teas from China were higher than tea samples from Korea. Geographical origin of teas from the 2 countries was discriminated using parameters of infusion lightness, gallocatechin, and total catechins and applying principal component analysis.

  • Bacillus cereus 28-9 is a chitinolytic bacterium isolated from lily plant in Taiwan. This bacterium exhibited biocontrol potential on Botrytis leaf blight of lily as demonstrated by a detached leaf assay and dual culture assay. At least two chitinases (ChiCW and ChiCH) were excreted by B. cereus 28-9. The ChiCW-encoding gene was cloned and moderately expressed in Escherichia coli DH5$\alpha$. Near homogenous ChiCW was obtained from the periplasmic fraction of E. coli cells harboring chiCW by a purification procedure. An in vitro assay showed that the purified ChiCW had inhibitory activity on conidial germination of Botrytis elliptica, a major fungal pathogen of lily leaf blight.

  • Atomistic simulation of nanoindentation with spherical indenters was carried out to study dislocation structures, mean contact pressure, and nanohardness of Au and Al thin films. Slip vectors and atomic stresses were used to characterize the dislocation processes. Two different characteristics were found in the induced dislocation structures: wide-spread slip activities in Al, and confined and intact structures in Au. For both samples, the mean contact pressure varied significantly during the early stages of indentation but reached a steady value soon after the first apparent load drop. This indicates that the nanohardness of Al and Au is not affected by the indentation depth for spherical indenters, even at the atomistic scale.

  • American options no doubt is invariably more popular than European options, due to the fact that it gives the owner the option to exercise a contract before and up to the expiration date, unlike an European option, which only allows the owner to exercise a contract on the date of expiration. Owing to its popularity, many methods like the binomial numerical method and the pseudo American method have been devised for computing of the value of the American options. The aim of this research is to develop an effective 3-dimensional visualization for American option portfolio based on the Geske-Roll-Whaley model. It is obvious that it is extremely tedious and unadvisable for researchers to interprte chunks of data by looking at graphs or pie charts, which are simple but not effective for analyzing important dta. Hence, the generation of the Geske-Roll-Whaley ...

  • How to safely and economically dispose mining tailings is a challenge to mine operators. This paper presents an alternative upstream method for tailings dam construction, termed as the template construction method (TCM), which has been successfully implemented at Zhelamuqing tailings impoundment since 2004. By the beginning of 2015, the tailings dam wall had reached 95 m in height for the 46 upstream raises, with the total height of the dam including the starter dyke being 128 m. The proposed TCM is relatively simple and cost-effective and provides a good way for constructing rapidly raising tailings dam based on this case.

  • Numerical simulation is carried out for flow characteristics in a plenum fan and the influence of the diameter ratio of the rotating vaneless diffuser on the performance of plenum fan is analyzed. The diameter ratio of the rotating vaneless diffuser employed is from 1.03 to 1.3. The research results show that the rotating vaneless diffuser is able to enhance the performance of plenum fan. It is found that there is significant improvement in static pressure and efficiency at the diameter ratio of 1.05 at high flow coefficients, while the optimal diameter ratio is 1.2 at rated and low flow coefficient.

  • This paper explains how we define and represent modality in E-HowNet. Following Lyons (1977, reviewed in Hsieh 2003, among others), we hold that modals express a speaker's opinion or attitude toward a proposition and hence have a pragmatic dimension and recognize five kinds of modal categories, i.e. epistemic, deontic, ability, volition and expectation modality. We then present a representational formalism that contains the three most basic components of modal meaning: modal category, positive or negative and strength. Such a formula can define not only modal words but also words that contain modal meanings and cope with co-compositions of modals and the negation construction.

  • This paper proposes a novel method of reversible data hiding in JPEG images. After analyzing the JPEG features, we provide a new algorithm of selecting appropriate blocks and coefficients to carry secret messages. Instead of embedding data into the histogram of all coefficients, we propose a strategy of ordered embedding to hide data by histogram shifts in several rounds. On the recipient end, secret messages can be exactly extracted, and the original JPEG image can be losslessly recovered. Experimental results show that high embedding rate can be achieved with limited distortions. Most importantly, the marked JPEG file generated by the proposed method requires less storage size than state-of-the-art works.
