  • $SF_6$ gas is well known as a global warming gas. Global warming potential of $SF_6$ gas is 22,000 times higher than that of $CO_2$. Recycling of $SF_6$ gas is an essential technology for the sake of the environment and the economy. The recovery processes of $SF_6$ gas studied in this work were liquefaction, distillation, and crystallization processes because these processes were thought to be easily carried to the fields for recycling waste $SF_6$ gas. The processes were simulated and optimized using Aspen plus. The optimization problems were formulated to minimize energy consumption with satisfying product specification and desired recovery. The performance of the processes was compared based on the optimization results. Effects of major process variables on the recovery performance were investigated and optimal operation guide for changing product specification and product recovery was provided.

  • There are few studies on the effects of different sources of PVC scraps generated after the end-of-life PVC products and these scraps are used to prepare PVC products of low quality. In this paper, rigid PVC scraps from different sources such as clothes, pipes, and others were investigated to incorporate into virgin PVC compounds as a part of efforts to recycle various PVC scraps effectively. It was found that the tensile strength and impact strength of the PVC compounds generally decreased with increasing the content of PVC scraps. The impact properties of scrap were in order of CC > PC > RC, tensile strength were PC > CC > RC and Vicat softening temperature shows no specific tendency. CC scraps contents of 50 phr of virgin PVC resin showed 80 %, and PC scrap with 50 phr of virgin resin showed 50% of the mechanical properties with virgin PVC.

  • Recently, there have been many studies seeking towards the utilization of cementitious powder from concrete waste as recycled cement. However, most of the studies actually have been researches about the reuse of mortar or paste, not concrete waste. In fact, either mortar or paste is quite different from a real concrete waste in terms of age and mixture. Thus the purpose of this study is to examine basic physical properties of recycled cement, manufactured with cementitious powder from concrete waste, and analyze differences in chemical and hydraulic properties of the cement and its tested model. As a result of the chemical analysis, recycle cement is composed mainly of CaO and $SiO_2$, and that it is even lower in the content of CaO than Portland cement, which is also supported by previous studies. But, Differently from previous studies, calcining temperature of 650 was found an optimal condition under which cementitious powder from concrete waste could restore its hydraulic properties.

  • The present work looks at the possibilities of recycling more than once demolished concrete as coarse aggregates, to produce new concrete. Different concrete mixes were made with substitutions of 50%, 75% and 100% of recycled concrete aggregates respectively as coarse aggregates. The physico-mechanical characterization tests carried out on the recycled concrete aggregates revealed that they are suitable for use in obtaining a structural concrete. The resulting concrete materials had rheological parameters, compressive strengths and tensile strengths very slightly lower than those of the original concrete even when 100% of two cycles recycled concrete aggregates were used. The durability of the recycled aggregates concrete was assessed through water permeability, water absorption and chemical attacks. The obtained concretes were thought fit for use as structural materials. A linear regression was developed between the strength of the material and the number of cycles of concrete recycling to anticipate the strength of the recycled aggregates concrete. From the results, it appear clear that recycling demolished concrete represents a valuable resource for aggregates supply to the concrete industry and a the same time plays a key role in meeting the challenge for a sustainable development.

  • Melting is one of the most effective treatments for stabilizing heavy metals and also creates high value by-products. In this study, authors evaluated the leaching characteristics of heavy metals in melting slag obtained from incinerator ashes. In order to evaluate the environmental compatibility of the recycled melting slag, the samples analysed various leaching tests of heavy metals were raw incinerator ashes, melting slag and the construction materials recycled from melting slag. As the results: (1) The leaching concentrations of tile melting slag were lower than those of the raw incinerator ashes in the experiment performed in accordance with Korea Standard Leaching Test (KSLT). (2) The result of leaching test with the method of RG Min-StB 93. FGSV Forschungsgesellschaft fur Stra $\beta$ en- und Verkehrswesen) met the requirements in German. (3) The compressive strengths of mortar samples used for evaluating the feasibility of recycling the melting slag as construction materials also showed the suitable range for recycling (4) Melting slag was considered the stable materials with respect to the chemical stability against chemical solutions with various pH conditions.

  • As the consumption of galvanized steels in cans and automobiles and the quantity of scraps increase, the recycling problems of EAF dust become a important problem. Valuable metals such as Fe, Zn, Pb are of continued interest to metallurgists. To recover the valuable metal and to remove the toxicity of EAF dust, high temperature smelting process is or researching as a pilot scale. The Reduction kinetics of Zn in EAF dust is so important in a view of the economic consideration of the process. In this study, the kinetics behavior of Zn in EAF dust were measured as a point of application in high temperature smelting process. The rate control step in ZnO and franklinite is revealed to be chemical reaction on the reaction surface.

  • The physical properties of recycled polyester yarns according to recycling methods were investigated. Virgin polyester draw texturized yarn(DTY), material-recycled(MR) polyester DTY and chemical-recycled(CR) polyester DTY were prepared. Surface morphology, thermal property, micro-structure and mechanical property of recycled polyester yarns were estimated. SEM-EDS analysis showed that the CR PET yarn had better crimp and more stable structure than MR PET yarn. Tm of the MR PET yarn was higher than that of the CR PET yarn. The intensity of the crystallization peak of the CR PET yarn was a little higher than that of the MR PET yarn. Tensile strength of the MR PET yarn was slightly higher than that of the CR PET yarn. Breaking elongation of the CR PET yarn was slightly higher than that of the MR PET yarn.

  • In the flotation system for deinking process, the ink partcles musl collidc with the air bubbles for adhesion The probability of bubble-particle collision is largely dependent on the hydrodynamic conditions The main reason for the very small ink particles not to be able to float easily may be tound in the hydrodynamic effects, which make small ink particlcs move following the slreamlines around the bubbles rather than achually collide with bubbles. Also. the low floatabdily of the large and heavy ink particles is due to the gravity force and viscous drag which affect uprising molinn of particles through the liquid. Therefore, it is vely important to control not only the surface chemical conditions but the hydrodynamic conditions in practical floialion system

  • Platinum group metals with high purity are important raw materials for high technology industry. Since there are no domestic ores containing PGMs, it is of importance to develop a separation process by which ultra pure PGMs can be recovered from diverse spent resources. Data on the chemical properties and dissolution behavior of PGMs were obtained from the literature. A method for the thermodynamic analysis of the HCl solution with chlorine gas was introduced. Utilizing the difference in the chemical properties and dissolution behavior of PGMs would lead to an efficient separation process to recover ultra pure PGMs.

  • In this study, the thermal degradation process has been investigated at various reaction temperature$(350{\sim}400^{\circ}C)$ and times$(30{\sim}120\;min)$ in order to recycle waste plastic films as solid state wax. Waste plastic films were easily melted by adding a small amount of waxes. The effects of wax addition and nitrogen flow rate on their thermal degradation properties were investigated. FT-IR, GPC and viscometer were used to analyze properties of the solid wax including the structure, molicular weight distribution and melt viscosity. The average molecular weight of solid wax was decreased with increasing the reaction time, temperature and amount of wax added, Also, the viscosity of solid wax decreased with increasing the stirring speed at a constant reaction temperature and time, and its viscosity got close to zero above $390^{\circ}C$.
