The in vitro glycosylation of pentapeptide (Arg-Lys-Asp-Val-Tyr; RKDVY) and RNase A was carried out using PNGase F (peptide-N-glycosidase F), and the results were analyzed using MALDI-TOF-MS. Aminated N,N-diretyl chitobiose was used as the sugar in the glycosylation reaction, and the amination yield of N,N'-diacetyl chitobiose was about $60\%$. To reduce the water activity and shift the reaction equilibrium to a reverse reaction, 1,4-dioxane or ethylene glycol was used as the organic solvent in the enzymatic glycosylation. A certain extent of nonenzymatic glycosylaton, known as the Maillard reaction, was also observed, which occurs on an arginine or lysine residue when the length of tie sugar residue is one or two. However, the extent of glycosylation was much higher in the enzymatic reaction, indicating that PNGase F can be effectively used to produce glycopeptides and glycoproteins in vitro.
In this study, we consider a multi-input multi-output styrene polymerization reactor system for which the monomer conversion and the weight average molecular weight are controlled by manipulating the jacket inlet temperature and the feed flow rate. The reactor system is identified by using a linear subspace identification method and then the output feedback model predictive controller is constructed on the basis of the identified model. Here we use the Best Linear Unbiased Estimation (BLUE) filter as a stochastic estimator instead of the Kalman filter. The BLUE filter observes the state successfully without any a priori information of initial states. In contrast to the Kalman filter, the BLUE filter eliminates the offset by observing the state of the augmented system regardless of a priori information of the initial state for an integral white noise augmented system. A BLUE filter has a finite impulse response (FIR) structure which utilizes finite measurements and inputs on the most recent time interval [i-N, i] in order to avoid long processing times.
Numerical simulation of coextrusion process of viscoelastic fluids within a die has been carried out. In the coextrusion process velocity profile at the outflow boundary is not known a priori, which makes it difficult to impose the proper boundary condition at the outflow boundary. This difficulty has been avoided by using the open boundary condition (OBC) method. In this study, elastic viscous stress splitting (EVSS) formulation with streamline upwind (SU) method has been used in the finite element method. In order to test the validity of the OBC method, comparison between the results of fully developed condition at the outlet and those of OBC has been made for a Newtonian fluid. In the case of upper convected Maxwell (UCM) fluid, the effect of outflow boundary condition on the interface position has been investigated by using two meshes having different downstream lengths. In both cases, the results with the OBC method showed reasonable interface shape. In particular, for the UCM fluid the interface shape calculated with OBC was independent of the downstream length, while the results with the zero traction condition showed oscillation of interface position close to the outlet. Viscosity difference was found to be more important than elasticity difference in determining the final interface position. However, the overshoot of interface position near the con-fluent point increased with elasticity.
In this study, thermally coupled distillation system and conventional two-column process were investigated for extractive distillation. The two processes were simulated and optimized using Aspen plus. Objective function for the optimization was energy consumption and optimization results to reduce energy consumption were used to get guidelines for design and operation for the two extractive distillation processes. Comparison of these two processes showed that thermally coupled distillation system provided better energy efficiency and lower capital cost than conventional distillation system.

The pressure in RO leads to a concentration difference across the membrane, while the concentration difference in PVAP across the membrane is achieved by applying a vacuum to the downstream compartment. Therefore, it could be possible to compare this two processes using the solution-diffusion mechanism.
There is considerable interest in how microbiological processes can affect the behaviour of metal contaminants in natural and engineered environments and their potential for bioremediation. The extent to which microorganisms can affect metal contaminants is dependent on the identity and chemical form of the metal and the physical and chemical nature of the contaminated site or substance. In general terms, microbial processes which solubilize metals increase their bioavailability and potential toxicity, whereas those that immobilize them reduce bioavailability. The balance between mobilization and immobilization varies depending on the metal, the organisms, their environment and physico-chemical conditions.
The ionic liquids are known to potential alternative solvents capable of replacing the commercial solvents in various processes including those in nuclear fuel cycle. As to the material, a number of studies have already reviewed the interesting results and addressed the spectroscopic as well as electrochemical behaviors of metal elements included in spent nuclear fuels. It has found that the important properties of metal ions in TBP dissolved ILs have led the development of alternative technologies to traditional solvent extraction processes. On the other hand, the electrochemical deposition of metal ions in ILs have been investigated for the application of the solvents to aqueous as well as to non-aqueous processes. In this work, a review on the application of ILs in nuclear fuel cycle is briefly presented to understand the notable researches on ILs focusing on aqueous processes.
$SF_6$ gas is well known as a global warming gas. Global warming potential of $SF_6$ gas is 22,000 times higher than that of $CO_2$. Recycling of $SF_6$ gas is an essential technology for the sake of the environment and the economy. The recovery processes of $SF_6$ gas studied in this work were liquefaction, distillation, and crystallization processes because these processes were thought to be easily carried to the fields for recycling waste $SF_6$ gas. The processes were simulated and optimized using Aspen plus. The optimization problems were formulated to minimize energy consumption with satisfying product specification and desired recovery. The performance of the processes was compared based on the optimization results. Effects of major process variables on the recovery performance were investigated and optimal operation guide for changing product specification and product recovery was provided.

Some of metal nanoparticles have the potential for use as colorimetric assays for estimating solution properties, such as pH and temperature due to localized surface plasmon (LSP) phenomena. This report describes the use of silver nanoparticles (AgNP) conjugated with cytochrome c (Cyt c) for the colorimetric determination of solution pHs. When the pH of a solution decreases, the Cyt c immobilized on the AgNP undergoes a conformational change, leading to a decrease in the interparticle distance between Cyt c-AgNP probes and consequent red-shift in LSP. As a result, the color of the Cyt c-AgNP probe solution changes from yellow to red and finally to a grayish blue in the pH range from 11 to 3. This gradual color change can be used to determine the pH of a solution over a wide pH range, compared to other colorimetric methods that use gold nanoparticles.
Chemical processes are highly nonlinear, multivariable systems and have complex structures. However, the controllability evaluation procedures are complicated, and the required information is very often unknown at the early design stage. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a procedure to evaluate and enhance controllability while designing processes and plants. To evaluate controllability in the design stage, it is most efficient to analyze process structure. Relative order can be used as a measure of 'physical closeness' between input and output variable. Structural controllability analysis using relative order is shown to be effective in a case study of heat exchanger network synthesis.
