  • Most of chemical plant are using toxic and dangerous materials, inflammable and poisonous. There are many accidental dangers by escaping of fire, explosive and poisonous materials in case of high temperature and pressure. The accidents lead to taking employer's and local people's life and environmental contamination. Therefore, 27 small-medium chemical plant, which size is 30∼200 employees out of safety management agent in the area of A was selected in this study. The problems of safety management and several countermeasures at the chemical plants was indicated through the analyzed data. Prior to this analysis, top managers' concerns, equipment maintenance for the safety management are needed. For the future, calamity prevention countermeasures by industrial disaster analysis are needed and active safety management programs are investigated for the industrial disaster prevention and productivity enhancement at the chemical plant.

  • A methodology to develop an expert system for chemical plant fault diagnosis based on functional-structure of chemical plant is proposed. A methodology to generalize and utilize the heuristic know-edge of plant operators is also developed. A plant can be seen as a Hierarchical set of subsystems. Each subsystem is called a SCOPE. The state of the plant and the behavior of each subsystem is managed by the SCOPES. An expert system based on this functional structure and knowledge base has been developed and ar plied to the subprocess of etylene plant to evaluate the effectiveness of the methodology.

  • In the course of a searhing environmental friendly antifungal compounds, we found that mixture of methyl esters of fatty acids obtained from soybean oil had potent control efficacy against barley powdery mildew (Blumeria graminis f. sp. hordei). In this study, ten alkyl fatty acid esters (AFAEs) were tested for in vivo antifungal activity against five plant diseases such as rice blast, rice sheath blight, tomato gray mold, tomato late blight and barley powdery mildew. Some AFAEs showed the most control efficacy against barley powdery mildew among the tested plant diseases. By 5-hr protective and 1-day curative applications, six AFAEs ($3,000\;{\mu}g/ml$), including methyl and ethyl palmitates, methyl and ethyl oleates, methyl linoleate, and methyl linolenate demonstrated both curative and protective activities against barley powdery mildew. In contrary, methyl laurate strongly controlled the development of powdery mildew on barley plants by curative treatment at a concentration of $333\;{\mu}g/ml$, but did not show protective activity even at $3,000\;{\mu}g/ml$. Under greenhouse conditions, the seven AFAEs ($1,000\;{\mu}g/ml$) except for methyl and ethyl stearates, and methyl caprylate also effectively controlled cucumber powdery mildew caused by Podosphaera xanthii. Among them, methyl and ethyl palmitates ($333\;{\mu}g/ml$) represented the most control activity of more than 68% against the disease. The results are the first report on the antifungal activity of methyl and ethyl esters of fatty acids against plant pathogenic fungi.

  • A total of 39 essential oils were tested for antifungal activities as volatile compounds against five phytopathogenic fungi at a dose of 1 ${\mu}l$ per plate. Five essential oils showed inhibitory activities against mycelial growth of at least one phytopathogenic fungus. Origanum vulgare essential oil inhibited mycelial growth of all of the five fungi tested. Both Cuminum cyminum and Eucalyptus citriodora oils displayed in vitro antifungal activities against four phytopathogenic fungi except for Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. The essential oil of Thymus vulgaris suppressed the mycelial growth of C. gloeosporioides, Fusarium oxysporum and Rhizoctonia solani and that of Cymbopogon citratus was active to only F. oxysporum. The chemical compositions of the five active essential oils were determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. This study suggests that both E. citriodora and C. cyminum oils have a potential as antifungal preservatives for the control of storage diseases of various crops.

  • An attempt was made to investigate the chemical compositions of the three plant types such as runner type(Yeoju landrace), semi-Spanish type(Suweon 15ho) and Spanish type(Wasedairu) of peanut. The proximate compositions were lipid 44.25~46.48% and protein 22.54~25.42% in various plant types of peanut, respectively. And the contents of purified free and bond lipids were 43.71~45.44% and 1.74~3.12%, respectively. The predominant fatty acids were oleic, linoleic, palmitic and arachidic acid in the free lipid, and linoleic, oleic and palmitic acid in t도 bond lipid. Pattern of 16 amino acid compositions in three plant types of peanut was shown to be similarity. Major amino acid were glutamic acid(75.30~104.66mg/g), arginine(57.30~74.27mg/g), aspartic acid(41.44~63.05mg/g) and leucine(30.80~39.00mg/g). The richest mineral contained in three plant types of peanut was noticed to be K and followed by Mg, Ca and Na. The lead content was below the authorized tolerance limits.

  • In a search for plant extracts with in vivo antifungal activity for plant diseases, we found that the methanol extract of Myristica malabarica fruit rinds effectively suppressed the development of several plant diseases. The methanol extract exhibited potent 1-day protective activity against rice blast, tomato late blight, wheat leaf rust and red pepper anthracnose. It also showed 7-day and 4-day protective activities against the plant diseases. Three antifungal resorcinols were isolated from the methanol extract of M. malabarica fruit rinds and identified as malabaricones A(MA), B(MB), and C(MC). Inhibitory activity of the three resorcinols against mycelial growth of plant pathogenic fungi varied according to compound and target species. All three compounds effectively reduced the development of rice blast, wheat leaf rust and red pepper anthracnose. In addition, MC was highly active for reducing the development of tomato late blight. This is the first report on the antifungal activities of malabaricones against filamentous fungi.
