  • Objective : TM-MC was constructed to provide information on the chemical compounds of medicinal plant materials which were listed in Korean, Chinese, and Japanese pharmacopoeias. The aim of this study was to compare of the chemical compounds of TM-MC with those of domestic pharmacopoeias. Methods : First of all, TM-MC was updated on medicinal materials and chemical compounds which were extracted from articles up to the PubMed identifier of 26 millions. After searching for medicinal plant materials with information on their major compounds in Korean pharmacopoeias, we identified that the information on medicinal materials and chemical compounds were also existed in TM-MC. Then, we figured out how much the compounds have been studied by counting the number of articles for those compounds in TM-MC.Results : Information on 9 medicinal materials and about 1,700 compounds was newly added to TM-MC after manually curating 645 articles. Korean pharmacopoeias contained a total of 91compounds from 53 medicinal plant materials, while TM-MC provided information on the 89 compounds from the 53 medicinal materials in Korean pharmacopoeias. The compounds stated in Korean pharmacopoeias has been much studied by comparison with other compounds of each medicinal material in TM-MC.Conclusion : Most of chemical compounds stated in Korean pharmacopoeias were also listed in TM-MC, excluding two compounds. Thus, we concluded that information in TM-MC is mostly consistent with that of Korean pharmacopoeias. In the future, we will periodically update TM-MC with articles added to the MEDLINE.

  • Chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence imaging was used to investigate the effectiveness of in vivo incorporation methods for two chemicals, 3-(3',4'-dichlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethylurea (DCMU) and methyl viologen (MV) in rice, a monocot, and cucumber, a dicot, leaves. four different methods (vacuum infiltration, floating, transpiration-aided incorporation through petiole and spraying) were compared, and $F_i$ and $F_v$/$F_m$ were chosen for the imaging of the DCMU- and MV-treated leaves, respectively. The effects of the chemicals in plants were generally heterogeneous over the whole leaf area. Moreover, the effectiveness of the treatment of a chemical in plant leaves was dependent on chemical species, plant species, concentration of the chemical, the treatment method, the duration of the treatment, the existence of light and detergent, etc. In conclusion, we suggest that to achieve the proposed effects of chemicals in plants for an actual experiment, these factors must be considered before the chemical treatment, and the best method for the treatment of the chemicals tested was floating and vacuum infiltration in the dicot and the monocot leaves, respectively, as drawn from Chl fluorescence imaging analysis.

  • As a way of improving the safety of the chemical facilities, the risk based-inspection(RBI) was executed for the facilities of the applied petrochemical plant using KS-RBI Ver. 3.0 program developed based on the API-581 based resource document(BRD). From an evaluation result of KS-RBI program, we could find the evaluation of the process safety management(PSM) for the applied plant, risk of the applied process, risk of static facilities and pipes, and the demage mechanism of the facilities. Also, we could suggest a proper inspection plan(frequency and method of inspection) using the calculated risk and the status of the facilities. Therefore, the applied plant could be achieved a reduced inspection cost by an extension of inspection frequency, improved productivity, improved reliability of the facilities, and a computerized history management.

  • A neural model predictive control strategy combining a neural network for plant identification and a nonlinear programming algorithm for solving nonlinear control problems is proposed. A constrained nonlinear optimization approach using successive quadratic programming cooperates with neural identification network is used to generate the optimum control law for the complicate continuous/batch chemical reactor systems that have inherent nonlinear dynamics. Based on our approach, we developed a neural model predictive controller(NMPC) which shows excellent performances on nonlinear, model-plant mismatch cases of chemical reactor systems.

  • The major aim of this work is the research of secondary metabolites isolated from the aerial parts of Petasites japonicus. The plant material is extracted with a polar solvent, which is 95% by volume methanol at room temperature. The concentrated extract was partitioned as EtOAc, n-BuOH, and $H_2O$ fractions. From the EtOAC and n-BuOH fraction, two bakkenolides and two caffoylquinic acid were isolated using the Diaion HP-20, silica gel, ODS-A, and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatographies. According to the results of the results of physico-chemical and spectroscopic data including NMR, MS and UV. The chemical structures of the compounds were respectively determined as bakkenolide B (1), bakkenolide D (2), 1,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid (3), and 5-O-caffeoylquinic acid (4). These results suggest that the compounds isolated from the aerial parts of this plant were almost identical with known components of Petasites japonicus. However, it is necessary to investigate more about the difference of amounts of constituents according to harvest area and time.
