  • The prevalence of the scuticociliatosis in flounder farms of Jeju island was surveyed for ten years from 1995 to 2004. The occurrence ratio had maintained as less than 10% until mid 1990s, and shown increasing trends to year 1998. The ratio was equivalent to over 40% of overall disease occurrences in flounder farms since year 2000. The monthly infection rates by the scuticociliates indicated relatively higher levels from May to September, and mixed infection phenomena with bacterial disease of vibriosis were common.

  • VA-mycorrhizal spores were collected from the 14 citurs orchards of different soil textures and locations in Cheju island. Five species and two kinds of spores were identified as based on the morphological characteristics of the spores; Acaulospora bireticulata, Glomus deserticola, G. geosporum, G. vesiculiferum, and Sclerocystis pachycaulis. Additionally, two kind spores of Acaulospora were also observed but difficult to be identified in this moment. Glomus deserticola and unidentified spores of Acaulospora (brown spores sized 90 to $125\;{\mu}m$ in diameter) were most frequently observed in the all soil specimens in Cheju, while the other kinds of spores were rarely observed in the soil of Cheju.

  • Ozone measurements made from 4 sites in Jeju Island have been analyzed, including those from two urban and two rural locales. The data were analyzed in terms of the seasonal and diurnal trends. It should be clear that the surface ozone levels in Jeju area would be relatively sensitive to the external ozone supply originated from the region of Northeast Asia. It seems to be that due to the reactions of ozone with $NO_{x}$ and CO, the average ozone level in Jeju City appears lower than that in Seogwipo City although Jeju City is the largest city in Jeju Island.

  • Measurements of sulfur dioxide, ozone and meteorological parameters at Kosan, Cheju Island show clear indications of the influence of the source areas of both Korean Peninsular and Mainland China. Monthly mean levels in February of $SO_2$ and $O_3$ were 1.4 and 44 ppb, respectively. These Values are 2-30 times higher than those measured in remote are as such as Bermuda Island and Uto Island in Finland. Ozone loss in February and March were found to be 0.2 and 0.36 ppb/hr and correlation coefficient between ozone and solar radiation was 0.48. Also it was found that $SO_2$ levels were more than 2 times higher when the prevailing winds from WSW-NNE than from the rest.

  • Morphotaxonomic accounts are given to four species of Amphiroa, Rhodophyta from Cheju Island ; A. valonioides Yendo, A. itonoi Srimanobhas et Masaki, A. rigida Lamouroux, and A. misakiensis Yendo. A. valomioides has one-tiered genicula of unequal length and its semiendophytic in other Amphiroan species, whereas A. rigida has two-tiered genicula of equal length and is semi-endophytic in non-articulated coralline alga. A misakiensis has five to thirteen-tiered genicula of unequal length and forms tufts on rocks where the branches are often recumbent. A. rigida is introduced for the first time to Korean flora.

  • Morphotaxonomic accounts are given to three taxa of Sphacelaria, Phaeophyta from Cheju Island; S. tribuloides Meneghinim, S. subfusca Setchell et Gardner, and S. yamdae Segawa. S. tribuloides has tribuliform propagules and produces plurilocular sporangia. S. subfusca has bifurcate or trifurcate propagules, and reproductive structures except propagules are not found. S. yamadae has twice bifurcate propagules and produces unilocular sporangia. Several taxa morphologically related to these three species are menioned. S. tribuloides and S. subfusca are introduced for the first time to Korean flora.

  • In this study, GPS surveying at bench marks in Cheju Island and with these data, calculate GPS/Levelling geoid in Cheju area. And compare this geoid with PNU95 Geoid. The results are as follows : 1. The ellipsoidal height of each bench mark was measured ${\pm}3cm$ with accuracy in GPS surveying. 2. Calculated CPS/Levelling Geoid well represents the variations of Cheju terrain. The correlation formula between the geoid and elevation above sea level in Cheju area is as fellow : $$N\;=\;0.001082\;{\times}\;h\;+\;25.458\;{\pm}\;0.227\;s.d.$$ 3. Calculated GPS/Levelling Geoid and PNU95 Geoid are welt fitted and the RMS difference between the two Geoids is 0.14 m.
