Compulsive behavior is a sequence of movements usually derived from normal maintenance behaviors that are performed out of context in a repetitive, exaggerated, ritualistic, and sustained manner. In general, the treatment plan includes environmental management, behavior modifications, and psychotropic medications, however, the prognosis is varied. In this case report, a 9-year-old neutered male miniature poodle presented with a lifelong history of tail chasing and mutilation. Based on the behavioral history, observations, and physical examination, compulsive disorder was diagnosed. The dog's compulsive tail chasing behavior improved only with a combination of psychotropic medications, including fluoxetine, trazodone, and gabapentin.

In a park or street, we can see many people Jogging or walking with their dogs chasing their masters. In the previous study, an entertainment robot, CARTRI that imitates the dog's behavior was created. The robot's task was chasing a moving goal that was recognized as the master. The physical structure of the CARTRI robot was three-wheel type locomotion system. The sensor system which could detect the position of the master in the outdoor space, was consists of a signal transmitter which was held by the master and five ultrasonic receivers which were mounted on the robot. In the experiment, the robot could chase a human walking in outdoor space like a park. But it could not avoid obstacles and its behavior was only goal-chasing behavior because of the limit of the sensor system. In this study, an improved RF-ultrasonic sensor system which can detect both goal and obstacle is developed in order to enable the CARTRI robot to carry out various behavior. The sensor system has increased angle resolution by using eight ultrasonic receivers instead of five in the previous study. And it can detect obstacle by using reflective type ultrasonic sensors. The sensor system is designed so that detection of goal and obstacle could be conducted in one sampling period. The Performance of the developed sensor system is evaluated through experiments.

In a park or street, we can see many people jogging or walking with their dogs that are chasing their masters. In this study, a pet robot that imitates dog's behavior is developed. The task of robot is to chase a person who is recognized as the master. The physical structure and the sensor system are designed for the task and environment. A three-wheel type locomotion system is designed as the robot's physical structure which can follow a person who is jogging in outdoor environment like a park. A sensor system, which can detect relative position of the master to the robot in highly dynamic and hazardous worlds, is developed. This sensor system consists of a signal transmitter which is held by the master and ultrasonic sensor array which are mounted on the robot. The transmitter emits RF (radio frequency) and ultrasonic signals simultaneously. The ultrasonic sensor array detects the signals and calculates direction and distance between the robot and the transmitter. The developed RF-ultrasonic sensor is evaluated through experiments. A purely reactive behavior-based control architecture is used for the robot. The behavior control performance of the robot is assessed in outdoor and indoor tests.
This study was conducted in three sites, Si-Hwa Lake, Dongman and Seoman island and Janguyeop island, from march, 1999 to september, 2002. The behaviors of pre-breeding season, territorial behaviors, reproductive ecology, foraging sites and behaviors, and the competition of reproduction and foods between intraspecific or interspecific of Eurasian Oystercatcher (Haematopus ostralegus) were observed in each studying sites. The breeding of Eurasian Oystercatcher started on the middle of April in Si-Hwa Lake and on the middle of May in Dongman and Seoman island and Janguyeop island. For intension of pair bond on pre-breeding season, Eurasian Oystercatcher foraged with pair and behaved male-female chasing flight behavior. The pair foraged with male and female before copulation. If other pairs and individuals approached in feeding site of pair, this pair attacked them with piping calling and intruder chasing flight. If continuos serial behaviors were not observed, the discrimination of male-female chasing flight and intruder chasing flight was difficult. Territorial behaviors classified four types; butterfly flight, calling behavior, chasing behavior, fight behavior. The important foraging sites in Si-Hwa Lake are the land place in Daeboo island, tidal flat of Bangameori, tidal flat a front of a stationary net for catching fishes and tidal flat a front of a view station for bird watching. Eurasian Oystercatcher foraged at tidal flat on low water of the tide and foraged at feeding sites near island on flood tide in Dongman and Seoman island. Eurasian Oystercater in Janguyeop island usually foraged feeding sites near island, because water level was not different between low water of the tide and flood tide. Eurasian Oystercatcher competed on foods of intraspecific and interspecific. They chased for taking foods by force in feeding sites and drove out intruders in feeding sites. The foods interspecific competition happened with Black-tailed Gull (Larus crassirostris). Eurasian Oystercatcher was robbed of foods and attacked by Black-tailed Gull. The individual of food competition with Black-tailed Gull was low foods intake rate comparison with other feeding sites and this individual flied out other feeding sites.
Recently, gambling problem of youth has seriously increased. the aim of this study is to investigate the effect of sociodemographic and gambling characteristics on the future gambling participation intention among middle school students. Analysis through chi-square test and logistic regression was conducted using data from 10,228 middle school students collected in the 2018 Survey on Youth Gambling problems given from Korea center on Gambling problems. The research findings were as follows. First, among the demographics factors, sex, grade, allowance and parents-children communication showed significant difference on future gambling participation intention. Second, among the gambling factors, awareness of gambling seriousness and spending, frequency, time, cost, chasing behavior, problem gambling level showed significant difference on future gambling participation intention. Third, grade, awareness of gambling seriousness, gambling frequency, chasing behavior, problem gambling predicted the occurrence of future gambling participation intention. Based on these results, the present study suggests the prevention and intervention of gambling problem among middle school students.
The aim of this study is to observe the reproductive behavior of the marine medaka, Oryzias dancena, and determine the factors of reproductive behavior to provide useful information for improving their artificial reproduction techniques. The reproductive behavior of the marine medaka was observed in laboratory aquaria. Once the experiment began, all of the males chased the females. The males attempted to stimulate the urogenital openings of the females. While chasing a female, a large male would bite a relatively small male's anus. Larger males expelled smaller males with biting, and the defeated males were barred from the female. After the other males were expelled, the remaining male approached and drew alongside the female. The male's dorsal and anal fins covered the female's body. Spawning began after complete covering took place. Spawning of males and females occurred simultaneously. The loadings for 2 factors were calculated. The calculation was restricted to 2 factors because these 2 factors explained about 81% of the total common variance (P<0.05) and the following factors possessed no practical significance. Two movements (biting, expelling) had high positive values for factor one. This factor related a male's defensive behavior to courtship behavior and spawning, and explained 23.1% of the total common variance (P<0.05). The second factor had high positive values for chasing, rejection, covering, and parallel swimming. This factor related a male's courtship behavior and female's defensive behavior to spawning, and explained 59.7% of the total common variance (P<0.05). This research provided basic biological data for the conservation of this species and useful information for improving their artificial reproduction techniques.
The current study aimed to analyze data conducting a survey with 211 females in Ulsan Gyeongnam province in order to understand what influence lifestyle types of female customers exert on eating-out behaviors from the perspective of eating-out motivation. So as to achieve research purpose, we conducted factor analysis, reliability analysis, t-test, ANOVA analysis, multiple regression analysis, correlation analysis and frequency analysis through SPSS 12.0 program. Findings of analyses indicated that items of lifestyle involve d 4 factors, and the item of eating out behaviors was extracted to be 1 factor. As a result of testing differences in lifestyle depending on residential areas, both type of chasing fashion and type of extroverted dependence have significant differences in variables, and both factors indicated that females living in Ulsan have higher mean values than those of females living in Gyeongnam. As a result of analyzing lifestyle depending on age, which was adopted in part, females at the ages of 31~40 had higher mean values than those in other ages in the type of chasing fashion, and females above the age of 51 had higher mean values than those in other ages in type of chasing health. As a result of lifestyle depending on academic backgrounds, university students or graduates had higher mean values than those in other academic backgrounds. For the influence of lifestyle types on eating-out behaviors depending on eating-out motivation, the type of chasing fashion, the type of purchasing the quality of life, and the type of chasing health were p<0.001, having significant effects.
Foraging behaviour of false dace, Pseudorasbora parva, was investigated in water flowing at various velocities with the existence of a cavity for rest. The pursuit comprised three succeeding processes such as, approaching, chasing and attacking. Angles between the fish body and the water flow direction and swimming speeds increased in the latter stages of approaching, chasing and attacking. All pursuit angles, swimming speeds and distances increased with flow velocity and peaked at the flow velocity of 7 cm/sec. At higher velocities, however, the fish avoided the use of much energy against the large drag force. The probability of capture and the feeding rate steadily decreased with increasing flow velocity. Under the fast flow, the fish adjusted their swimming speed to get the optimum velocity relative to the flowing water for the energetic budget. Fish spent more time in the cavity as flow velocity increased to avoid the energy expenditure necessitated by the high velocity.
The purpose of this study was to explore the characteristics of the children's rough-and-tumble play, and investigate the differences in rough-and-tumble play according to children's gender and social competence. The subjects were 80 five to six year-old children. The children's behaviors during the outdoor play were observed by a modified version based on the Rough-and-Tumble Play Categories(Humphreys & Smith, 1987). Children's social competence was measured by using the Scale for the Social Competence of Kindergarten(Doh, 1994). The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, and ANCOVA. The results were as follows: Firstly, about 25.6% of outdoor play types was rough-and-tumble play behaviors. Specifically, children's rough-and-tumble play was more 'chasing' behaviors than 'mock-fighting' behaviors. Secondly, boys involved in rough-and-tumble play more often than girls did. In general, boys participated more frequently in various rough-and-tumble play categories, whereas girls involved only in chasing behavior more often. Finally, controlled by sex, children with higher social competence participated more frequently in rough-and-tumble play, which showed statistical significance. In conclusion, children's rough-and-tumble play behaviors were related to the gender and the social competence.
The spawning behavior of the silurid catfish, Silurus asotus, was observed from laboratory aquaria after treating with human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) and injection with pituitary extract of grass carp. The details of the spawning behavior presented here are based upon the observations made from 10 trials with 40 male and 20 female catfishes artificially bred between May and July, 1995. Initial spawning activity started 15 to 16 hours after injection with pituitary extract of grass carp and HCG. The activity was continued with for 2 to 3 hours and repeated mating behavior of the catfish were observed during this period. Compared to the spawning activity of the Japanese catifish, S. biwaensis, S. asotus took a different male position during the period o fsearching its partner. This study also reports some other differences in mating behavior between S. asotus and S. biwaensis.
