  • New group 15 organometallic compounds, M$(phenanthrenyl)_3$ (M = P (1), Sb (2), Bi (3)) have been prepared from the reactions of 9-phenanthrenyllithium with $MCl_3$. A reaction of 9-(diphenylphosphino)phenanthrene with 2,6-diisopropylphenyl azide led to the formation of (phenanthrenyl)${(Ph)}_2P$=N-(2,6-$^iPr_2C_6H_3$) (4). The crystal structures of 2 and 4 have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffractions, both of which crystallize with two independent molecules in the asymmetric unit. Compound 2 shows a trigonal pyramidal geometry around the Sb atom with three phenanthrenyl groups being located in a screw-like fashion with an approximately $C_3$ symmetry. A significant amount of CH- -$\pi$ interaction exists between two independent molecules of 4. The phosphorus center possesses a distorted tetrahedral environment with P-N bond lengths of 1.557(3)$\AA$ (P(1) N) and 1.532(3)$\AA$ (P(2)-N), respectively, which are short enough to support a double bond character. One of the most intriguing structural features of 4 is an unusually diminished bond angle of C-N-P, attributable to the hydrogen bonding of N(1)-H(5A) [ca. 2.49$\AA$ between two adjacent molecules in crystal packing. The compounds 1-3 show purple emission both in solution and as films at room temperature with emission maxima ($\lambda_{max}$) at 349, 366, and 386 nm, respectively, attributable to the ligand centered $\pi$ $\rightarrow$ $\pi^\ast$ transition in phenanthrene contributed by the lone pair electrons of the Gp 15 elements. Yet the nature of luminescence observed with 4 differs in that it originates from $\pi$ (diisopropylbenzene)-$\pi^\ast$ (phenanthrene) transitions with the $\rho\pi$contribution from the nitrogen atom. The emission maximum of 4 is red-shifted ranging 350-450 nm due to the internal charge transfer from the phenanthrenyl ring to the N-arylamine group as deduced from the ab initio calculations.

  • Properties of succinate transport were examined in basolaterat membrane vesicles (BLMV) isolated from rabbit renal cortex. An inwardly directed $Na^+$ gradient stimulated succinate uptake and led to a transient overshoot. $K^+,{\;}Li^+,{\;}Rb^+$ and choline could not substitute for $Na^+$ in the uptake process. The dependence of the initial uptake rate of succinate on $Na^+$ concentration exhibited sigmoidal kinetics, indicating interaction of more than one $Na^+$ with transporter Hill coefficient for $Na^+$ was calculated to be 2.0. The $Na^+-dependent$ succinate uptake was electrogenic, resulting in the transfer of positive charge across the membrane. The succinate uptake into BLMV showed a pH optimum at external pH $7.5{\sim}8.0$, whereas succinate uptake into brush border membrane vesicles (BBMV) did not depend on external pH. Kinetic analysis showed that a Na-dependent succinate uptake in BLMV occurred via a single transport system, with an apparent Km of $15.5{\pm}0.94{\;}{\mu}M$ and Vmax of $16.22{\pm}0.25{\;}nmole/mg{\;}protein/min$. Succinate uptake was strongly inhibited by $4{\sim}5$ carbon dicarboxylates, whereas monocarboxylates and other organic anions showed a little or no effect. The succinate transport system preferred dicarboxylates in trans-configuration (furmarate) over cis-dicarboxylates (maleate). Succinate uptake was inhibited by the anion transport inhibitors DIDS, SITS and furosemide, and $Na^+-coupled$ transport inhibitor harmaline. These results indicate the existence of a $Na^+-dependent$ succinate transport system in BLMV that may be shared by the other Krebs cycle intemediates. This transport system seems to be very similar to the luminal transport system for dicarboxylates.

  • To enhance near UV-visible absorption region and to applied phosphor convert-white LEOs (PC-WLEDs), a red phosphor composed of ${Y_2}{SiO_5}:\;EU^{3+}$, $Bi^{3+}$ compounds was prepared by the conventional solid-state reaction. The photoluminescence (PL) shown that samples were excited by near UV light 395 nm for measurement of PL spectra. Emission spectra of samples have shown red emissions at 612 nm ($^5D_0{\to}^7F_2$). The enhanced near $UV{\sim}$ visible excitation spectrum with a broad band centered at 258 nm and 282 nm originated in the transitions toward the charge transfer state (CTS) due to the $Eu^{3+}-Bi^{3+}-O^{2-}$ interaction. The other excitation band at $350\;nm{\sim}480\;nm$, corresponding to the transitions $^7F_0{\to}^5L_9$ (364 nm), $^7F_0{\to}^5G_3$ (381 nm), $^7F_0{\to}^5L_6$ (395 nm), $^7F_0{\to}^5D_3$, (415 nm) and $^7F_0{\to}^5D_2$ (466 nm), occurred due to enhanced the f-f transition increasing $Bi^{3+}$ and $Eu^{3+}$ ions. The PL intensity increased with increased as concentration of $Bi^{3+}$ and the emission intensity becomes with a maximum at 0.125 mol.

  • The crystal structure of a bromine sorption complex of dehydrated fully $Ca^{2+}$-exchanged zeolite A (a = 12.211(2) ${\AA}$) has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques in the cubic space group, Pm3m at $21(1)^{\circ}C$. The crystal was prepared by dehydration at $360^{\circ}C$ and 2 ${\times}$ $10^{-6}$ Torr for 2 days, followed by exposure to about 180 Torr of bromine vapor at $24^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. In the resulting structure, six $Ca^{2+}$ ions are located on two different threefold axes associated with 6-ring oxygens. A total of six dibromine molecules are sorbed per unit cell. Each $Br_2$ molecule approaches a framework oxide ion axially, with O-Br = 3.12(7) ${\AA}$, Br-Br = 2.64(9) ${\AA}$ and O-Br-Br = $178(2)^{\circ}$, indicating a charge-transfer interaction. Full-matrix least-squares refinement converged to a conventional R index of 0.104 using the 103 independent reflections for which I > 3${\sigma}$ (I).

The crystal was prepared by flow method for three days using exchange solution in solution in which mole ratio of AgNO3 and Ca(NO3)2 was 1:150 with total concentration of 0.05 M. The complex was prepared by dehydration at 360℃ and 2×10-6 Torr for 2 days, followed by exposure to about 14.3 Torr of iodine vaporat 80℃ for 24 hours. Full-matrix least-squares refinement converged to the final error indices of R1=0.082, R2=0.068 using 122 reflections for which I > 3σ(I). Two Ag+ ions, 1.1 Ag+ ions, and 4.45 Ca2+ ions per unit cell are located on three different three-fold axes associated with 6-ring oxygens. Two Ag+ ions per unit cell are in the large cavity, 1.399(4)Å from the (111) plane of three oxygens. Another 1.1 Ag+ ions are found at opposite sites. Six iodine molecules are sorbed per unit cell. Each I2 molecule approaches a framework oxide ion axially (O-I=3.43(2)Å, I-I=2.92Å, I-I-O;166.1(3)°), by a charge transfer complex interaction. Two Ag+ ions make a close approach to the iodine molecules (Ag-I ; 2.73(2)Å).
