  • Trap effects on the formation of space-charge field (SCF) associated with the photorefractivity of nonlinear optical polymers were studied by the Monte Carlo simulation using modified Gaussian disorder model. The charge transport dynamics influenced by the presence of trap molecules controls the formation of SCF via the charge distribution. Temporal behavior of SCF formation and SCF dependence on the trap depth are discussed in terms of the concentration and distribution of charges (holes and ionized acceptors) developed following illumination of light. The correlation of the trap depth and the energetic disorder is presented for an optimal efficiency for the SCF formation.

  • The use of the pulsed electro acoustic (PEA) method allowed us to perform the direct observations of spatio-temporal charge distributions in Electric double layer capacitors (EDLCs) based on polarizable nanoporous carbonaceous electrode. The negative charge density became the maximum, about $205C/m^3$ at the region where was near to collector layer in EDLCs for case $V_{DC}=2.5V$, while the positively charged density became the maximum, about $61.1C/m^3$ at the region where it was located around the cathode layer. The performance of the best sample was found to be better in terms of the charge density (Cs) and specific energy ($E_s$) with a maximum value of ${\sim}8.4F/g$ and 26 Wh/kg. The $C_s$ obtained from the PEA method agreed well with that from the energy conversion method. The PEA measurement used here is a very useful method to quantitively investigates the spatio-temporal charge distribution in EDLCs.

  • The aim of the study was to investigate the statistical distribution of muzzle velocity of 155mm propelling charge K676 which is for the use of K9, a korean 155mm self-propelled artillery. A plenty of muzzle velocity data were collected from lot assessment test of propelling charge. The muzzle velocity of each test round is compensated by reference round. In the present work, the detailed statistical analysis of the muzzle velocity data is carried out using probability models including normal, Weibull 2-parameter and Weibull 3-parameter distributions. The results of goodness of fit test showed that the normal distribution described more appropriately the experimentally measured muzzle velocity data and the Weibull distribution is also applicable. The coefficient of variation showed that the mass production capability of each propelling charge lot has been maintained.

  • In this paper, a coordinated state-of-charge (SOC) control strategy for the energy storage system (ESS) operating under microgrid islanded mode to stabilize the frequency and voltage was proposed. The proposed SOC control loop is made up of PI controller, which uses a SOC state of the energy storage system as an input and an auxiliary reference value of secondary control as an output. The SOC controller changes the auxiliary reference value of secondary control to charge or discharge the ESS. To verify the proposed control strategy, PSCAD/EMTDC simulation study was performed. The simulation results show that the SOC of the ESS can be regulated at the desired operating range without degrading the stabilizing control performance by proposed coordinated SOC control method.

  • In this paper, each specimen blended at weight proportions of 80% HDPE to 20% EVA, 70% HDPE to 30% EVA, 60% HDPE to 40% EVA, and 50% HDPE to 50% EVA was manufactured respectively. The insulation performances of the proposed insulator were compared with conventional XLPE, main insulating material of CV cable on the basis of the investigation results of DC insulation performances. From the space charge density, electric field and potential profiles with raising DC voltage and time variation in HE82, distortion of electric field distribution was improved. As EVA mixed into the bulks acts as nucleation in crystallization process of HDPE, the size of spherulites became decreased and finally formed continuous network structure. Ultimately, it resulted from extinction of space charge in the interfacial region of spherulites.

  • A numerical method is presented for determining the static charge distribution and the capacitance of a round disk capacitor. In the employed numerical scheme annular patch subdomains are introduced to reduce the matrix size and to mprove the accuracy of the numerical calculations. The method of moments is utilized to calculate the charge distribution, and the capacitance and equipotential lines are also found from the numerically computed charge distributions. To show the validity of the results the proposed method is applied to the round disk and the dielectric filled capacitor.

  • Purpose - This paper analyzes the effect of the handset subsidy and the Mobile Number Portability subscriber subsidy regulation, which are the main regulation adopted in "Law on the Improvement of the Mobile Terminal Distribution System" (Mobile Terminal Distribution Act), on the social surplus, the consumer surplus and profits of telecommunications carriers. We focus our analysis on whether the service charge competition is stimulated enough so that it can compensate for the loss of subsidies. Research design, data, and methodology - We use simple economic model to assess the impact of the handset subsidy and the Mobile Number Portability subscriber subsidy regulation. Unlike the former researches on this topic, we depart from using Hotelling model, and instead use the switching cost model, which uses switching cost as a parameter of market powers of telecommunications carriers. We also study the effect of the two different regulations when they are adopted both independently and concurrently. Results - If the market powers of telecommunications carriers are over certain threshold, contrary to the regulatory agency's assertion, the service charge competition would not be stimulated enough to compensate for the deduction in the subsidies, and thus the consumer surplus is compromised. Number Portability subsidy, especially, undermines the rival's market power and thus reduces the service charge. On the other hand, the regulations will also increase the profits of telecommunications carriers. However, social surplus is maximized when both of the regulations are present because the regulations reduces the frequency of switching handsets inefficiently. Conclusions - In enacting the Mobile Terminal Distribution Act, the telecommunications regulatory agency asserted that the regulation on subsidies will stimulate service charge competition, and in the long run, enhance the consumer surplus. However, contrary to the regulatory agency's assertion, subsidy regulation, especially the regulation on Number Portability subsidy, reduces consumer surplus. On the other hand, the Mobile Terminal Distribution Act can also increase the profits of telecommunications carriers because it decreases competition among the telecommunications carriers. However, the Mobile Terminal Distribution Act can increase the social surplus because it reduces inefficient switching of handsets.

  • The aim of the study is to investigate the method to estimate a storage life of propelling charge on the decrease of muzzle velocity by stochastic gamma process model. It is required to establish criterion for state failure to estimate the storage life and it is defined in this paper as a muzzle velocity difference between reference value and maximum allowable standard deviation multiplied by 6. The relationship between storage time and muzzle velocity is investigated by nonlinear regression analysis. The stochastic gamma process model is used to estimated the state distribution and the life distribution for storage time for 155mm propelling charge KM4A2 because the regression analysis is a deterministic method and it can't describe the distribution of life for storage time.

  • In phtosynthetic light harvesting complexes, the electronic transition energies of chlorophylls are influenced by the Coulombic interaction with nearby molecules. Variation of the interactions caused by structural inhomogeneity in biological environment results in a distribution of disordered electronic transition energies of chlorophylls. In order to provide a practical guide to predict qualitative tendency of such distribution, we model four porphyrin derivatives including chlorophyll a molecule interacting with an external positive charge and calculate their transition energies using the time dependent density functional method. It is found that ${\pi}-{\pi}^*$ transition energies of the molecules are generally blue-shifted by the charge because this stabilizes occupied molecular orbitals to a greater extent than unoccupied ones. Furthermore, new transitions in the visible region emerge as a result of the red-shift in energy of an unoccupied Mg orbital and it is suggested that light-induced electron transfer may occur from the tetrapyrrole ring to the central magnesium when the molecules are interacting with a positive charge.

  • The signal of space charge distribution measured in polymer insulating materials by the PEA has some noises due to the system circuits and the ringing phenomena in the sensor of PVDF and so on forth. It's magnitude mainly depends on the thickness of the insulation material, and it is also affected by the attenuation and dispersion when traveling in a dielectric material. In order to make it reliable, the correcting process for the signal is essential. In this study, we proposed the new deconvolution process on the measured signal of space charge distribution in the flat XLPE insulator, and developed a new signal processing algorithm. Using this, we could improve the reliability of the measured signal much and analyze the effects of space charge clearly in materials.
