The Expression and Characteristics of Mexican Poncho Costume Appropriated In Modern Fashion -Focus on James O Young's Cultural Appropriating Techniques-

  • Appropriation is of considerable significance in a cultural trend of thought, as one of the means of realizing the post-modernism period. With the increasing use of appropriation techniques in modern fashion, it is necessary to study the external performance and internal aesthetic value of appropriation in fashion. In the book of cultural appropriation, American scholar James o young divides into three categories of appropriation in culture, namely: object appropriation, content appropriation, and subject appropriation. Based on James O Young's three types of appropriation techniques summarized in the theory of the cultural appropriation, the purpose of this study is through the appropriation of the poncho of traditional Mexican clothing in modern fashion as an example; analyzing the external appropriation characteristics and internal aesthetic significance of different appropriation type. The results are as follows. First, designers take the Originality in modern fashion by expressing Mexican Poncho's form, color, pattern, and material as it is through object appropriation technique. Second, through the Mexican folk poncho's style, designers used these to show the similarity produced by content appropriation in modern fashion. Third, designers used the poncho's design concept or poncho's culture, blending the theme of the collection, adding different color, pattern or materials such as fur, lace, and wool, and presenting a new image different from folk costumes through creative subject appropriation technique.

A Study on Character Consistency Generated in [Midjourney V6] Technology

  • The emergence of programs like Midjourney, particularly known for its text-to-image capability, has significantly impacted design and creative industries. Midjourney continually updates its database and algorithms to enhance user experience, with a focus on character consistency. This paper's examination of the latest V6 version of Midjourney reveals notable advancements in its characteristics and design principles, especially in the realm of character generation. By comparing V6 with its predecessors, this study underscores the significant strides made in ensuring consistent character portrayal across different plots and timelines.Such improvements in AI-driven character consistency are pivotal for storytelling. They ensure coherent and reliable character representation, which is essential for narrative clarity, emotional resonance, and overall effectiveness. This coherence supports a more immersive and engaging storytelling experience, fostering deeper audience connection and enhancing creative expression.The findings of this study encourage further exploration of Midjourney's capabilities for artistic innovation. By leveraging its advanced character consistency, creators can push the boundaries of storytelling, leading to new and exciting developments in the fusion of technology and art.

만화 이미지가 표현된 후기산업사회 복식의 해학 (Humor of Post-Industrial Society Costume Expressing Cartoon Image)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify a basic meaning of humor from the costume expressing cartoon image, to grasp the status of contemporary costume, and also to supply people with a database related to the sphere of costume design. This was done by analyzing and examining humor of the costume expressing cartoon image in post-industrial society. Consequently, the result of this study was summarized as follows; First, humor by parody of Pop Art is recognized as humorous expression that repulsed the main current culture and post-industrial society phenomenon. Second, humor by quotation tends to appear through cartoon character. Costume which quote cartoon character is against Kidult tastes and the pre-existing authoritative prejudices in post-industrial society. Third, humor by bricolage, making bricolage with silhouette, color, pattern item, is recognized as new creation of humor In other words, it is regarded as enlargement of new esthetic consciousness and humor about instrumented gender in post-industrial society. Lastly, humor by deformation expressed itself in deformation of body image of character and cloth silhouette by cartoon image. Deformation of cloth silhouette by cartoon image, being not conscious pre-existing concept of harmony of human and costume, is recognized as humor which have characteristic of play with introduction of new silhouette. In addition to, the result of this study showed that humor expressed in cartoon image of costume has been limited to the works of few designers because of characteristics of fashion designers who made use of popularity as subjects of the works and internal meanings which were related to the characteristics of post-industrial society.

인도네시아 레스토랑에 나타난 전통 공간구성요소의 현대적 표현 특성 (The Characteristics of Comtemporary Expression of Traditional Space Components Appearing in Indonesian Restaurants)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristic as to how the Indonesian traditional space is expressed in a contemporary space. As for the study method, We visited 12 Indonesian restaurants in Jakarta from Oct. 16 to Oct. 20, 2010 for a case study. The study result is presented as follows: First, as a factor of facade components, the roof part revealed its identity as a Joglo structure. Walls, windows and doors reflected Indonesian tradition, or were transformed in passive or aggressive ways. Second, as a factor of interior space components, ceilings were predominantly designed by reflecting a structural exposure ceiling or Tumpang Sari as it was or by passively transforming them; Interior walls, windows and doors were transformed in aggressive ways. Third, regarding the factors of interior decoration components, traditional furniture was not used, but instead, furniture with contemporary form and local materials were dominently used, and traditional accessaries were used as they were. Therefore, in the case of designing spatial componentss in Indonesian restaurants located in Jakarta, roofs and ceilings, floors, furniture, and accessaries reflected Indonesian tradition, or were passively transformed, whereas walls, windows, doors, and some ceilings aggressively reflected modernized tradition so that they were formed in harmony with traditional and contemporary styles.

Analysis of Ambiguous Adverbial Expression Used for Instruction of Positioning Control

  • Up to now, many studies on human-machine interface with voice systems have been reported. However, in these systems, precise instructions are necessary for a robot to execute given tasks successfully. In order to make a robot friendly, more ambiguous instructions with some kinds of degree adverbs (, e.g., "move it a little", "lift it more" and so on, ) will be preferable. Therefore, we analyze the relationship between ambiguous instructions and the characteristics of instructed human motion in positioning task to design human friendly interface systems. Several experimental results show that adverbial expressions are mainly divided into three clusters corresponding to the displacement, and that instructors and perators have several differences in distance sense each other.

  • 선박, 자동차, 항공기등 수송체 구조해석에 유한요소법이 사용됨에 따라 초기 설계 후 대형 복합구조물의 해석이 ANSYS, NASTRA등의 범용 유한요소 코드에 의해 수행되고 있다. 설계변경을 시도할 때 설계자의 경험과 인지만으로 대형 구조물의 성능변경을 예측하기는 어렵다. 비록 대형 컴퓨터의 사용으로 구조 재해석이 용이하나 정량적 및 이론적 설계수정방향 없이는 인력과 계산시간 소모를 초래하고 때로는 시간 제약으로 충분한 재해석을 못할 수가 있다. 이때 긴요하게 사용될 수 있는 정보는 민감도로서 설계변수 변화에 대한 구조응답 변화를 수치적으로 나타내므로 설계변경에 도움을 줄 수 있다. 본 논문에서 계산된 정확한 민감도는 선체데크구조와 수송체구조물 프레임 강성도를 설계 변수로 하였으며 구조물 진동저감 설계에 사용될 수 있다. 즉 유한요소법에 의한 구조 재해석에 의하지 않고 민감도 값으로 구조 진동변위 증감을 예측할 수 있음이 예제로 보여지고 있다.

Gareth Pugh의 패션 필름에 나타난 미적 특성 (Aesthetic Characteristics Reflected in Gareth Pugh's Fashion Films)

  • This study deals with the aesthetic characteristics in Gareth Pugh's fashion film. As fashion films are becoming a newly emerging communication tool in fashion, the aim of this study will be to build a database on these films. For the specific method in this work, literature reviews were performed along with the empirical study of seven pieces of fashion film. The results of the study showed that Gareth Pugh released the fashion films from 2008 to 2012, and he collaborated with SHOW Studio member and photographer Nick Knight and Ruth Hogben. Common themes in their films were fear, fantasy, dynamics, and going off-limits, and these can be summed up in the following ways. First, a sense of fear was expressed via black colors, bizarre mechanical sounds, decalcomania shape in abstract images, and transformed physical body images. Second, an image of fantasy was presented with diverse expression techniques including colorful light presentations and abstract image setups from repeatedly changed image reproduction. Third, dynamic feature was denoted with a combination of fast development of images and quick reproduced layouts, as well as quick beat sounds, and big and powerful action movements. Fourth, characteristic of going off-limits was reflected, by showing the collections with a communication tool called fashion film instead of existing collection concept.

21세기 패션에 나타난 그런지 룩의 표현특성 (Characteristics of the Grunge Look in 21st century fashion)

  • This study intended to analyze the grunge look as a mode of expression and as a characteristic of the fashion of the 21st century, arguing that the look expressed not only an outward appearance or sub-culture but also a change in our attitude and spirit about contemporary fashion. In the study, I carried out an empirical analysis focused on the collection from 2001S/S to 2010F/W and a literature review. In my results, I classified the grunge look into the following categories: 1. mix and match layering; 2. patchwork, collages, and assemblage using all objects as well as clothing materials; and 3. distressing techniques, such as bleaching and dyeing, unweaving, and tears and holes. I also classified the characteristics of grunge into the following categories: 1. conspicuous destitution, which is intentionally expressed by skillful techniques and craftsmanship, indicating that modern people want to attract attention and be distinguished from others, which reflects an attitude of superiority through ironic fashion choices; 2. high lighting the dissolution of decoration, where destruction, poverty and recombination shown in the grunge look emerged as an artificial and intentional ugly aesthetic in contrast to the existing elegant and sophisticated image; and 3. satire and playfulness, as grunge expresses alienation and conflict in modern society through satire and sarcasm, not attacking or avoiding, but through playful and sarcastic engagement so as to decrease poverty and give temporary freedom.

생체모방 접근법을 반영한 현대 패션의 유기적 형태 생성 (Organic Form Generation Reflecting a Biomimetic Approach in Contemporary Fashion)

  • This study explores the organic form generation method, which reflects the evolving biomimetic approaches converging in fashion technology and considers the characteristics of the organic relationship between the body and the clothing to be represented in contemporary fashion. A literature review on biomimetic architecture and design-related theory and a case study on biomimetic fashion were both conducted. Images, articles, and data related to biomimicry fashion and clothing, including the increase in virtual fashion cases around 2020, were analyzed based on the literature review. Biomimicry was used to derive interdisciplinary similarities in the organic morphogenesis principle, and the result was categorized as a network system, folds and unfolds, pneumatic structures, auxetic growth, and membranes. The biomimetic fashion characteristics, including externalization of the body's interior, expansion of the body structure and silhouette, body protection, independence from the body, and post-human expression through virtualization, were analyzed. Morphogenetic processes performed through biomimetic vision are expected to aid in generating research on the possibility of mass production or popularization in the future through various experimental technical studies.

  • 공예문화산업은 '공예 문화로 이루어진 산업'의 의미보다는 '산업으로서의 공예 문화'로 이해하는 것이 바람직하다고 본다. 공예문화산업은 기능, 기술, 기법 또는 토속 원재료를 근간으로 하여, 생산되는 조형제품으로서 제조과정의 주요부분이 수공예적인 특성을 가진 제품을 제조하는 산업을 말한다. 오랜 세월을 걸쳐 역사적으로 전승하여 형성되어온 특정의 공예 문화 관련한 산업이다. 이를 살펴봄으로써 공예문화산업만이 가지고 있는 고유한 특징과 가치를 이해하고 공예 활동이 더 이상 제작의 차원에만 머무르지 않고 제작, 유통, 개발 등 공예문화산업으로 한 국가와 민족의 전통성을 계승하고 표현하는 대표적인 공예 문화 산업분야로써 발전방안에 대한 시장성 연구를 통한 발전방안을 제시하고자 한다.
