Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) has been extensively studied as the active material in ammonia gas sensor because of its fast response time, high conductivity and environmental stability. It is well known that a post annealing process for organic devices based on PEDOT:PSS significantly increases the device performance. In this study, we propose the solvent annealing of PEDOT:PSS and investigated its effects. As a results, post solvent annealing on PEDOT:PSS lead to the surface chemical and physical properties change. These changes result in improved conductivity of the PEDOT:PSS. In additional, ammonia sensitivity of solvent annealed PEDOT:PSS become higher than pristine polymer film. The enhancement is mainly caused by the depletion of gas barrier PSS and structural re-forming PEDOT networks. We believe that the post solvent annealing is a promising method to achieve highly sensitivity PEDOT:PSS films for applications in efficient, low-cost and flexible ammonia gas sensor.
In this work, ultrafiltration(UF) membranes were prepared using polyethersulfone(PES). The polymer was dissolved in various solvent, such as N, N-dimethyl formamide(DMF), N,-dimethyl acetamide (DMAc), N,N-dimethyl sulfoxide(DMSO) and N-methyl-2- pynolidone(NMP). Each polymer solution was casted on the glass plate, and immersed into non-solvent bath. In this way finely porous UF membranes were prepared by phase inversion method. The cross sectional structure of PES membrane was asymmetric which was consist of sponge-like sublayer, finger-like toplayer, and active skin layer. From the solute rejection experiments, the molecular weight cut off of the prepared membrane in various solvent was evaluated 10,000 for DMF, 30,000 for DMAc, 50,000 for DMSO, and 10,000 for NMP respectively.
Post-synthesis is used to synthesize organic hybrid inorganic mesoporous sieves. In this method, the activity and structure of the base sieve are crucial to obtain the definable hybrid materials. The chemical and physical properties of the base can be largely changed either by the final step of its synthesizing processes, by template removal which is accomplished with the oxidative thermal decomposition (burning) method or by solvent extraction method. In this paper we compared two methods for the post-synthesis of organic hybrid MCM-48. When the template was extracted with HCl/alcohol mixture, the final product showed larger pore size, larger pore volume and better crystallinity compared to the case of the thermal decomposition. The reactivity of the surface silanol group of template free MCM-48 was also checked with an alkylsilylation reagent $CH_2=CHSi(OC_2H_5)_3$. Raman and $^{29}Si$ NMR spectra of MCM-48 in the test reaction indicated that more of the organic group was grafted to the surface of the sample after the template was removed with the solvent extraction method. Direct synthesis of vinyl-MCM-48 was also investigated and its characteristics were compared with the case of post-synthesis. From the results, it was suggested that the structure and chemical reactivity can be maintained in the solvent extraction method and that organic grafting after the solvent extraction can be a good candidate to synthesize a definable hybrid porous material.

In this paper, we propose a simple and low-cost fabrication method of polymer microlens using solvent-vapor-assisted reflow (SVAR). Metal molds for replication of polymer were fabricated using micro milling and the cylindrical shape of polymer was imprinted using hot-embossing process. The cylindrical shape of polymer was changed to hemispherical lens shape by SVAR. The characteristics of fabricated microlens were evaluated according to the condition of SVAR such as temperature and time. The focal length of polymer microlens could be controlled more easily in low-temperature and long-time condition than in high-temperature and short-time condition. That is, the level of concentrated light to focal point could be improved through the control of temperature and time. Also, we confirmed that toluene was more appropriate solvent than acetone in fabrication of PMMA polymer microlens using SVAR.
Various bupivacaine-loaded microspheres were prepared using poly(d,1-lactide) (PLA) and poly(d,1-lactic-co-glycolide) (PLGA) by a solvent evaporation method for the sustained release of drug. The effects of process conditions such as drug loading, polymer type and solvent type on the characteristics of microspheres were investigated. The prepared microspheres were characterized for their drug loading, size distribution, surface morphology and release kinetics. Drug loading efficiency and yield of PLGA micro- spheres were higher than those of PLA microspheres. The prepared microspheres had an average particle size below 5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The particle size range of microspheres was 1.65~2.24${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. As a result of SEM, the particle size of PLA microspheres was smaller than that of PLGA microspheres. In morphology studies, microspheres showed a spherical shape and smooth surface in all process conditions. In thermal analysis, bupivacaine-loaded microspheres showed no peaks originating from bupivacaine. This suggested that bupivacaine base was molecular-dispersed in the polymer matrix of microspheres. The release pattern of the drug from microspheres was evaluated for 96 hours. The initial burst release of bupivacaine base decreased with increasing the molecular weight of PLGA, and the drug from microspheres released slowly. In conclusion, bupivacaine-loaded microspheres were successfully prepared from poly(d,1-lactide) and poly (d,1- lactic-co-glycolide) polymers with different molecular weights allowing control of the release rate.

We have manufactured Ag pastes for gravure printing by adding different solvent contents. Then the gravure printability and properties of conductive patterns gravure-printed by the different rheology characteristics of pastes were investigated. The dispersity of pastes was increased and the viscosity and shear rate dependence of viscosity for pastes were decreased by increasing the solvent content. Also storage modulus G', loss modulus G" and angular frequency value when G" starts to be bigger than G' of pastes were increased by decreasing the solvent content. These mean a flow drop of paste. As a result of gravure printing using two plates which have different line counts(175line and 350line), conductive patterns printed using 175line were spreaded more but Ag packing, thickness and conductivity of the conductive patterns were better than those printed using 350line. And the spread values of conductive patterns were increased with solvent contents but the best properties for Ag packing, surface roughness and conductivity of the conductive pattern were obtained by paste (3) which has 550cps of viscosity at $100s^{-1}$ and tan ${\delta}$ > 1 at 10rad/s. As a result of gravure printing using 350 line plate and paste (3), the conductive pattern has $1.2{\mu}m$ of film thickness and $1.9{\times}10^{-5}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ of conductivity.

In this study, I investigated the applicability of fluorescein-derived xanthene dyes to fluorescent pigment and the controllability of the optical properties of manufactured pigments. Eosin Y (D&C Red No.22) and phloxine B (D&C Red No.28) were mainly used as a dye to prepare the pigment. Dyes dissolved in a solvent were poured into a powder dispersed in the solvent, then dried and pulverized to fabricate the pigments. Optical characteristics related with fluorescence of the prepared pigment were measured. The optical properties of pigments were varied depending on the solvent used, content of the dye in the pigment, and the ratio of dyes when more then two dyes were mixed. According to the experiment result, it seems that some of the dyes attached to the powder showed fluorescence while the rest did not contribute to it. From the result of pigment washing experiment to explore the binding (or interaction) strength and characteristics of the powder-dye system constituting the pigment, it seems that there are two or more different interactions existing in the pigment system, one of which is relatively stronger than the solvent-dye interaction.
Mesoporous silica was synthesized in a water solvent and in an ethanol solvent with the non and cationic cetyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (CTAC) by varying the amount of the amphiphilic acrylic urethane oligomer (AAU) and the pH of the solution. The adsorption of the MX (3-chloro-4 (dichloromethyl)-5-hydroxy-2-(5H)-furanone) in drinking water was studied using the synthesized mesoporous silica as an adsorbent. The most appropriate silica was synthesized in acidic conditions in the water solvent and in alkali conditions in the ethanol solvent. The average pore sizes of the synthesized mesosilica were 3 nm and more. The mesoporous silica synthesized by the addition of the AAU oligomer showed excellent adsorption characteristics. With respect to the co-surfactant, the best adsorption characteristics were obtained when the P64,a non-ionic surfactant with a high molecular weight, was used to synthesize the silica than when other co-surfactants were used. The adsorption rate decreased as the MX concentration in the water increased. Different adsorption equilibrium conditions were reached depending on the adsorbate MX concentration in the adsorbent and the solution. It was seen that perfect adsorption does not occur due to such equilibrium conditions.

The purpose of this study is to make a functional Hanji treated with an oriental lacquer which has various functionalities. The raw oriental lacquer produced in China was used in this study This lacquer was diluted with ethanol and terpene in different solvent ratios. The diluted lacquer in the solvents had two layers. The upper layer was solvent soluble and the lower contained precipitates. Hanji was treated with the solvent solubles and the mixture containing precipitates, and then properties of the Hanji were evaluated. The oriental lacquer consisted of 25.04% of water, 60% of urushiol, 3.13% of nitrogen-containing compounds, and 5.66% of gum. The pH of oriental lacquer was 5.3 and the viscosity was 1680 cP. The average weight, thickness, and density of Hanji treated with oriental lacquer tended to gradually decreased as the lower concentration of lacquer was used and as the solvent soluble was treated. Tensile strength of the treated Hanji decreased when the diluted lacquer was used and Hanji treated with terpene dilutes at the ratio of lacquer to solvent of 1:5 (v/v) showed higher tensile strength than ones treated with ethanol dilutes. The folding endurance decreased as the less concentrated lacquer was used and the highest value was obtained when 1:40 (v/v) of lacquer to solvent ratio in both ethanol and terpene mixture. Absorption ratio was higher in the Hanji treated with ethanol mixture, treated with the lacquer in higher concentration, and treated with ethanol mixture. Hanji treated with ethanol dilutes at 1:20 (v/v) and the lower ratio of lacquer to solvent showed a hydrophobic property. Amount of the bound dye materials tended to be decreasing as the concentration of lacquer becomes lower and it was higher in Hanji treated with ethanol mixture than with terpene mixture. Color of Hanji treated with the solvent diluted mixture was Y to YR-type, whereas that of Hanji treated with raw oriental lacquer was Y-type, terpene
This study describes to analyze the characteristics for separation and recovery of both the dried particles and the purified solvent from the waste solvent through the vaporization process by the continuous and instantaneous vacuum drying system. The vacuum drying system for the waste solvents recovery consists of a feeding pump, a double pipe heat exchanger, a vacuum spray chamber, and a condenser. The vacuum drying system heats the waste solvent to the vapor in the double pipe heat exchanger and the expanded vapor is sprayed at the end of the tube. The vaporized solvent in the condenser are recovered. The particles in the waste solvent are separated and dried from the vapor in the vacuum spray chamber. Performance evaluation of the vacuum drying system was conducted using the mixture of the dried pigment particles and benzene or alkylbenzene as test samples. For the mixture of 10 wt% pigment particles an 90% benzene, the recovery efficiency of benzene was 88% with the purity of 99% and the recovery efficiency of dried particles was 94% with the moisture of 1.1 wt%. The size of pigment particles was decreased from $6.5\mu\textrm{m}$ to $5.6\mu\textrm{m}$ in diameter due to high speed spraying and dispersion in the vacuum drying system during drying process. Therefore, the vacuum drying system showed to be an effective method for separating particles and solvent in the waste solvent.
