A Study on the Design of 16-Channel AWG Wavelength Division Multiplexer for Super High-Speed Optical Communication (초고속 광통신을 위한 16-Channel AWG 파장다중화기의 설계에 관한 연구)

  • Various methods for analyze optical components which are necessary before the fabrication of optical circuit component and as its applications, designing method of Wavelength Division Multiplexer(WDM) filter using arrayed-waveguide grating(AWG) is paper. In the case of analyzing uniform optical waveguide, effective index method(EIM), harmonic expansion method are used, and in the case of non-uniform optical waveguide, beam propagation method(BPM) are used. In this paper, to use arrayed-waveguide grating as WDM filter of centered wavelength of $1.55{\mu}m$ and wavelength spacing of 0.8nm, all of the parameter of AWG is calculated by the HEM and the BPM using EIM. As a result of calculation, free spectral range is 12.8nm, focal length $9336.55{\mu}m$, path difference $129.36{\mu}m$ and the number of slab waveguide 91 when the distance of core center to center on row land circle is $20{\mu}m$.

  • The subchannel analysis was performed to verify the behavior of hot channel characteristics and obtain the information to support the core thermal-hydraulic behavior at post-trip steam line break with low flow condition. During this postulated accident, buoyancy-induced cross flow occurs, and the coupled nuclear and thermal-hydraulic interactions become important. The code predictions with TORC are in good agreement with the test data. Under such conditions, the mass flow increase in the hot channel by buoyancy-induced cross flow depends on the parameter $GR^{*}\;/\;Re^2$, and buoyancy effect becomes more noticeable as $GR^{*}\;/\;Re^2$ increases.

  • The conjugate heat transfer from a protruding module in a horizontal channel with a variation of air temperature is experimentally investigated. It is an aim of this study is to estimate temperature difference between a module and air. This study is performed with a variation of parameters that are air temperatures($T_i,=25^{\circ}C{\sim}55^{\circ}C),$ thermal resistance($R_c=158 K/W),$ air velocities ( 4V_i=0.1$ m/s~l.5 m/s ), and input power (Q=3 W, 7 W ). The results show that as the thermal resistance increases, the effect of air temperatures are decreased. And input power was most effective parameter on the temperature difference between a module and air.

  • When a straight channel formed by two parallel porous plates, through which two immiscible liquids occupying different heights are flowing a secondary motion is set up. The motion is caused by moving the upper plate with a uniform velocity about an axis perpendicular to the plates. The solutions are exact solutions. Here we discuss the effect of suction parameter and the position of interface on the flow phenomena in case of Couette flow. The velocity distributions for the primary and secondary flows have been discussed and presented graphically. The skin-friction amplitude at the upper and lower plates has been discussed for various physical parameters.

  • Hydroxylated polychlorinated biphenyl (OH-PCBs)는 PCB의 CYP-dependent oxidation의 대사물로서 잠재적 독성이 강하고 지질친화성을 가지며 생물군에 지속적인 축적성을 나타낸다. OH-PCBs의 해독화 효능을 조사하기 위하여 channel catfish 간에서 glucuronidation을 통한 해독작용 가능성을 평가하고 biphenyl 구조에 다양한 염소치환의 구조적 차이점에 따른 영향을 비교 분석하여 보았다. Kinetic parameters에서 $K_m$$V_{max}$$192{\sim}871{\mu}M$, $869{\sim}1774$ pmo1/min/mg으로써 4'-OH-PCB35와 4'-OH-PCB69이 가장 높은 속도의 glucuronidation을 나타냈으며, 구조적 차이점에서 phenolic group에 한 개의 염소치환이 존재할 경우보다 두 개의 염소치환이 존재할 경우에 OH-PCBs(p<0.001)의 glucuronidation에 대한 $V_{max}$를 현저하게 낮추는 결과를 보였다.

Performance on the Beam-Switched Demand Assigned Multiple Access for the Packet Satellite Communication (패킷 위성통신의 빔스위칭 요구할당 다중 접속 방식에 대한 성능 연구)

  • This paper aims at investigating the Demand Assigned Multiple Access(DAMA) system for the packet-switched Satellite Communication. An onboard processor of the multisport beam satellite incorporates the ground controller to macimize the packet transmissions for each slot. 'Request Following' trnasmission mode is introduced as a transmission strategy of ground station under the control of its zone controller. The combined scheme of reservation channel access and contention channel access was proposed by Lee & Mark[3] for improving the Delay-Throughput performance. Our scheme provides less communication delay of approximately max. 200msec for achieving the corresponding throughput than the Lee & Mark's work does. Delay versus Throughput curves as well as Delay versus Traffic parameter curves are obtained. Numerical results obtained through the analysis and by the computer simulation show that the proposed scheme provides the low average packer delay even under the condition that the number of transponders (M)is below the half of the number of zones(N).

$H{\alpha}$ - $Ly{\beta}$ Formation in Optically Thick Medium

  • Symbiotic stars and quasars exhibit prominent $H{\alpha}$ emission lines often accompanied with broad wings. $H{\alpha}$ emission nebulae in these objects are proposed to be optically thick to resonance scattering. The transfer of $H{\alpha}$ line photons are further complicated by the existence of another scattering channel leading to re-emission of $Ly{\beta}$. In this work are develop a Monte Carlo code to simulate the transfer of $H{\alpha}$ line photons incorporating the scattering channel into $Ly{\beta}$. We show various line profiles of $H{\alpha}$ and $Ly{\beta}$ emergent from our model nebulae. It is shown that temperature is a critical parameter which controls the ratio of emergent $Ly{\beta}$ flux to that of $H{\alpha}$.

  • This paper analyzes matched-filter acquistion performance of a direct-sequence spread-specturm multiple-access system in a Rayleigh fading channel. For an application of multiple access system, multiple access interference is considered in the performance analysis. A signal flow graph technique is used to derive mean acquisition time in terms of detection and false alarm probabilities. As aresult of performance analysis, it is shown that mean acquisition time increases as fading rate becomes faster andthe numbre of users increases, and it decreases as a matched-filter length becomes logner. The variation of parameter values hs much influence on acquisition performance as SNR/chip becomes smaller.

  • This paper describes a method of human sensibility evaluation for pleasant and unpleasant environments. Conditions of the environment are room temperature and humidity. Changing the conditions, 10-channel EEG signals for 4 subjects are collected. Linear predictor coefficients of the recorded EEGs are extracted as the feature parameter of human sensibility. A neural network-based human sensibility estimation algorithm is developed. The developed algorithm showed good performance in the pleasantness evaluation. The neural network output produced accurate states of pleasantness sensibility. Subject-independent test showed similar results with subject-dependent test.

  • Opportunistic scheduling is one of the important techniques to maximize multiuser diversity gain. In this paper, we propose a distributed opportunistic scheduling scheme for ad-hoc network. In the proposed distributed scheduling scheme, each receiver estimates channel condition and calculates independently its own priority with probabilistic manner, which can reduce excessive probing overhead required to gather the channel conditions of all receivers. We evaluate the proposed scheduling using extensive simulation and simulation results show that proposed scheduling obtains higher network throughput than conventional scheduling schemes and has a flexibility to control the fairness and throughput by controlling the system parameter.
