  • This paper proposes a new extended decision directed-decision estimated phase recovery algorithm based on maximum likelihood parameter estimation for OQPSK. In this scheme, comparing conventional one, the data dependent noise of phase recovery loop is reduced by inserting filter with 2 taps to in-phase and quadrature-phase channel respectively before phase detector. The proposed scheme is compared to conventionalscheme and OQPSK in aspect to BER(Bit Error Rate) and phase error according to the roll-off factor of baseband filter, the output back-offs of nonlinear satellite channel, and loop bandwidth.

  • For orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), cyclic prefix (CP) should be longer than the length of channel impulse response, resulting in a loss of bandwidth efficiency. In this paper, we describe a new technique to restore the cyclicity of the received signal when the CP is not sufficient for OFDM systems. The proposed technique efficiently restores the cyclicity of the current received symbol by adding the weighted next received symbol to the current received symbol. Iterative CP reconstruction (CPR) procedure, based on the residual intersymbol interference cancellation (RISIC) algorithm, is analyzed and compared to the RISIC. In addition, we apply the CPR method to Alamouti space-time block coded (STBC) OFDM system. It is shown that in the STBC OFDM, tail cancellation as well as cyclic reconstruction of the CPR procedure should be repeated. The computational complexities of the RISIC, the proposed CPR, the RISIC with STBC, and the proposed CPR with STBC are analyzed and their performances are evaluated in multipath fading environments. We also propose an iterative channel estimation (CE) method for OFDM with insufficient CP. Further, we discuss the CE method for the STBC OFDM system with the CPR. It is shown that the CPR technique with the proposed CE method minimizes the loss of bandwidth efficiency due to the use of CP, without sacrificing the diversity gain of the STBC OFDM system.

  • In this paper, a water tank experiment using Binary Frequency Shift Keying (BFSK) method for text transmission performance by water surface fluctuation is conducted. Water surface fluctuation and delay spread which affect the channel coherence bandwidth is a limiting factor in underwater acoustic communication. The amplitude fluctuation and delay spread the smooth surface and fluctuation surface, were identified. The effective delay spread of both cases are 5ms, 4ms corresponding to the coherence bandwidth of 200Hz, 250Hz, respectively. The bit error rate of BFSK modulated text transmission is about $10^{-4}$ in less than 200bps in smooth surface but less than 250bps in fluctuation surface. Therefore, this experiment shows that the water surface fluctuation is important factor determining the performance of the underwater acoustic transmission.

  • In this paper, we analyze performance of PSPM(Phase Shift Position Modulation) modulation scheme in multi-path channel. A PSPM modulation method transmits the information data by both PSK symbol data and symbol position data, so that we can significantly improve the power efficiency. The bandwidth efficiency of PSPM is quarter than PSK but improve BER performance, because increasing symbol hamming distance. In this results, a PSPM scheme is bandwidth efficiency better than FSK and power efficiency better than PSK. This characteristic can be useful in WBAN and wireless sensor networks also PSPM modulation method can be expected high throughput than existing FSK. In this paper, we compare PSPM, PSSK and PSK regard to BER performance and throughput in multi-path channel.

  • This paper presents a channel reservation scheme using Wiener prediction model in order to reduce the rate of forced termination of cognitive users in cognitive radio networks. The proposed method uses Wiener prediction model to predict the number of radio channel required by the reappearance of primary users, and then calculates and reserves the number of channels that cognitive users demand for their spectrum handoff. Through the simulation we investigate cognitive users' forced termination rate and blocking rate with and without channel reservation. In addition we show the bandwidth utilization efficiency for both cases. The results show that the proposed scheme can reduce the forced termination rate of cognitive users at the cost of slightly increasing in blocking rate. Also it is seen that there is little difference in bandwidth utilization efficiency for both cases.

  • M-ary differential phase shift keying(DPSK)is a bandwidth efficient digital modulation technique and recently has attracted increased attention in mobile satellite communication application where the available radio bandwidth is limited. Coherent detection offers good BER performance in AWGN channel. However, it requires long acquisition times in fading environment. In this paper, we analyze the BER performance of M-ary DPSK signal using the Multiple Differ- ential Feedback Detection(MDFD) technique in Rician fading and shadowed Rician fading channel. MDFD is an efficient scheme to decrease the performance gap between differential and coherent reception by increasing the complexity of the conventional differential receiver to some extent. Compared to the multiple symbol maximum likelihood detection technique, the multiple differential feedback detection technique has a much simpler structure for hardware implementation. Espe- cially, this technique has application to land mobile satellite channel which can vary in time and space between AWGN and rapidly fading channel.

  • A reconfigurable photonic microwave (MW) channel selective filter was demonstrated incorporating a $1{\times}2$ switch based on two tunable polymeric resonators with different free spectral ranges. Each resonator, consisting of two cascaded rings with an electrode formed on one of them, plays a role as an on/off switch through the thermooptic effect. The optical signal carrying the MW signal is routed to either port of the switch and detected to show the filtered output at the frequency determined by the free spectral range of the corresponding resonator. When the channel centered at 10 GHz was chosen, the extinction ratio was ${\sim}30dB$, the bandwidth 1 GHz, and the electrical power consumption 4.1 mW. For the other channel located at 20 GHz, we have achieved the extinction ratio of ${\sim}30dB$, the bandwidth of 2 GHz, and the required power of 8.0 mW. Finally the crosstalk between the selected and blocked channels was higher than 24 dB.

  • Recently, it is possible to high speed transmission of the non-voiced data, including voice, data, moving image instead of voice only in the past by changing the communication method to digital form from analog owing to the development of semiconductor and computer technology which for information transmission of the remote point. By doing so, we can get the improvement of the noise effect and low cost but the loss of transmission bandwidth. It is necessary to take some method in oreder to reducing the fading which is propotional to transmission bandwidth during the transmission of radio communication channel, especially. When we design the digital communication system, we must considered to the fading effect in order to determination of the transmitting power, modulation /demodulation method, transmission speed, bit error rate. This paper mainly concerns to the method to the channel simulator which descrives the fading effect during the transmission by computer model and digital filter modeling of the radio fading channel by unsing the transmitting and received signal. By taking the inverse of the characteristic of the modeled filter, it is possible to improvement of the communication system by reducing the distortion and inter-symbol interference which occurs in the channel.

  • Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) is an efficient technology to increase data rate in wireless networks due to bandwidth and power limitations. Data transmission rate between transmitter and receiver is determined by channel capacity. MIMO has anadvantage of reliable communication over wireless channel because of utilizing the channel capacity properly. In this letter, we drive a new formula, closed form capacity formula, using confluent hypergeometric function.

  • In recent years, the development of multimedia devices has meant that a wider multimedia streaming service can be supported, and there are now many ways in which TV channels can communicate with different terminals. Generally, scalable video streaming is known to provide more efficient channel capacity than simulcast video streaming. Simulcast video streaming requires a large network bandwidth for all resolutions, but scalable video streaming needs only one flow for all resolutions. In previous research, scalable video streaming has been compared with simulcast video streaming for network channel capacity, in two user simulation environments. The simulation results show that the channel capacity of SVC is 16% to 20% smaller than AVC, but scalable video streaming is not efficient because of the limit of the present network framework. In this paper, we propose a new network framework with an SVC extractor. The proposed network framework shows a channel capacity 50% (maximum) lower than that found in previous research studies.
