Design and Analysis of Refractometer Based on Bend Waveguide Structure with Air Trench for Optical Sensor Applications

  • This study proposes a novel optical sensor structure based on a refractometer combining a bend waveguide with an air trench. The optical sensor is a $1{\times}2$ splitter structure with a reference channel and a sensing channel. The reference channel has a straight waveguide. The sensing channel consists of a U-bend waveguide connecting four C-bends, and a trench structure to partially expose the core layer. The U-bend waveguide consists of one C-bend with the maximum optical loss and three C-bends with minimum losses. A trench provides a quantitative measurement environment and is aligned with the sidewall of the C-bend having the maximum loss. The intensity of the output power depends on the change in the refractive index of the measured material. The insertion loss of the proposed optical sensor changes from 3.7 dB to 59.1 dB when the refractive index changes from 1.3852 to 1.4452.

SC-FDE Design to Cope with Narrow Band Jammer (협대역 재머 대응을 위한 SC-FDE 구조 설계)

  • In this paper, based on the conventional SC-FDE structure, we propose a new SC-FDE structure to cope with narrow band jammer. In the conventional SC-FDE structure, channel estimation is performed in the time domain. When a narrow band jammer exists, time-domain channel estimation is very difficult due to high power jamming interference, which degrades receiver performance. To relieve from this problem, a new SC-FDE frame is proposed to enable channel estimation under narrow band jamming environments. In this paper, we proposed a modified SC-FDE structure that can perform channel estimation in the frequency domain, and verified the performance via computer simulation.

  • We have observed the short-channel effect, narrow-channel effect and small-geometry effect in terms of a variation of the threshold voltage. For a short-channel effect the threshold voltage was largely determined by the DIBL effect which stimulates more carrier injection in the channel by reducing the potential barrier between the source and channel. The effect becomes more significant for a shorter-channel device. However, the potential, field and current density distributions in the channel along the transverse direction showed a better uniformity for shorter-channel devices under the same voltage conditions. The uniformity of the current density distribution near the drain on the potential minimum point becomes worse with increasing the drain voltage due to the enhanced DIBL effect. This means that considerations for channel-width effect should be given due to the variation of the channel distributions for short-channel devices. For CCDs which are always operated at a pinch-off state the channel uniformity thus becomes significant since they often use a device structure with a channel length of > 4 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and a very high drain (or diffusion) voltage.   • In this paper, we propose a frame structure for modified ATSC transmission systems which is used for a terrestrial 3D HDTV broadcasting. The modified ATSC transmission systems [2] see the potential of increasing a transmission capacity at reasonable TOV (Threshold of Visibility) by modifying channel codes of conventional ATSC systems and varying modulations. We use PN symbols (Pseudorandom Noise) in a guard interval which is used for avoiding the ISI (Inter Symbol Interference) to estimate and compensate the time-varying multi path channel effectively with a maximum transmission payload. With PN symbols in the guard interval, a CIR (Channel Impulse Response) in a time domain can be estimated and a compensation in a frequency domain can be achieved for the accurate channel estimation and compensation. The prosed frame structure is applied to the modified ATSC systems and computer simulations are performed for SER (Symbol Error Rate) performances in TU (Typical Urban)-6 Channel.

A study on the conceptual structure of purchase risks in fashion consumption through online channels (온라인 채널에서의 패션 소비에 관한 구매위험의 구조적 개념 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to create a theoretical structure for the concept of purchasing risks by identifying the structure of purchasing risks that lead to obstacles in the purchasing decisions of consumers in fashion consumption via online channels. This was a secondary research using books, articles, prior researches, and academic journals on the five topics of "characteristics of fashion consumption," "the concept of purchasing risks," "purchasing risks by product types," "purchasing risks by channel types," and "purchasing risks of fashion consumption on online shopping channels." According to the arguments of prior researches, the study divided the purchasing risks of fashion consumption through online shopping into four categories : (1) fundamental purchasing risks including financial risk and time loss risk pertaining to any product or channel, (2) online channel purchase risks, which include risks in payment, Information leaks, and delivery and return/exchange risk, (3) fashion product risk related to product quality or experience of other people, which includes social risks and risks associated with quality, and (4) the online channel${\times}$fashion product risks, which include the aesthetic and psychological hazards especially amplified in online channels. The four risk factors were then described with a concept map to systemize the multi-dimensional and stereoscopic psychological structure of purchasing risks. Of the four risk factors, consumers placed the most emphasis on the online channel${\times}$fashion product risks, hence, reducing this risk factor is of utmost priority for marketing of online shopping channels.

Experimental Study on Levee Seepage Considering Dynamic Head in a Trapezoidal Open-Channel (사다리꼴 개수로에서 동수두를 고려한 제방 침투에 관한 실험연구)

  • Levees, the hydro-engineering structure, are similar to earth dams in aspects of shape and structure. However, they are different from earth dams in the external force conditions. As a levee is the structure that is complexly affected by the flow and the water stage in the river, it may be unreasonable to analyze the seepage safety as previous studies derived from the neglect of river flow. In this study, an experiment was conducted to investigate flow structures in a trapezoidal open-channel and the influence of the channel flow on the seepage through a levee. Flow structures in a trapezoidal open-channel were distinguished from a rectangular open-channel such as velocity and bottom shear stress distributions. In case with the flow velocity of 0.5 m/s, seepage water heads were higher 10 percent as compared with the stagnant case. This result is caused by dynamic heads, secondary currents, turbulent fluctuation forces, and various physical factors. It is suggested that external force boundary considered in terms of the flow as well as the water stage is proper to seepage analyses.

The Lago Sofia Conglomerate : Debris Flow to Hyperconcentrated Flow Deposits in a Cretaceous Submarine Channel, Southern Chile

  • The Lago Sofia conglomerates encased in the Cretaceous Cerro Toro Formation, southern Chile, represent a gigantic submarine channel system developed along a foredeep trough. The channel system consists of several tributaries along the trough margin and a trunk channel along the trough axis. Voluminous debris flows were generated ubiquitously along the tract of the submarine channel mainly by the failure of nearby channel banks or slopes. The flows transformed immediately into multiphase flows and resulted in very thick-bedded mass-flow deposits with a peculiar structure sequence. The mass-flow deposits commonly overlie fluted or grooved surfaces and consist of a lower division of clast-supported and imbricated pebble-cobble conglomerate with common basal inverse grading, and an upper division of clast- to matrix-supported and disorganized pebble conglomerate or pebbly mudstone with abundant intraformational clasts. The structure sequence suggests a temporal succession of a turbidity current, a bipartite hyperconcentrapted flow with active clast collisions near the flow base, and a cohesive debris flow probably with a rigid plug. The multiphase flow is interpreted to have resulted from transformation of clast-rich but cohesive debris flows. Cohesive debris flows appear to transform more easily into dilute flow types in subaqueous environments because they are apt to hydroplane. This is in contrast to the flow transitions in subaerial environments where noncohesive debris flows are dominant and difficult to hydroplane.

The Improvement of Performance and Structure of the MIMO-UWB System Based on Indoor Channel Modeling (실내 채널 모델링에 기반한 MIMO-UWB 시스템의 구조 및 성능 개선)

  • In this paper, we suggest the novel MIMO-UWB transceiver structure which can easily be adapted for various MIMO schemes and presents MIMO channel model for obtaining correlation characteristics among channels to analyze the performance. From the indoor channel modeling, we obtain the interferences among antennas due to the MIMO channel formation through numerical simulation and analyze the performance of MIMO-UWB system under frequency selective fading. Especially, to reduce the excessive computational complexity due to the inverse matrix computation of channel transfer function, we take the scheme combining the transmitting signals estimated from each receiving antenna after recovering each transmitting antenna signal from a receiving antenna.

  • We fabricated the newly proposed nano structure memory with SOI edge channel and a nano dot. The width of the edge channel of this device, which uses the side wall as a channel and has a nano dot on this channel region, was determined by the thickness of the recessed top-silicon layer of SOI wafer. The size of side-wall nano dot was determined by the RIE etch and E-Beam lithography. The I$_{d}$-V$_{d}$, I$_{d}$-V$_{g}$ characteristics of the devices without nano dots and memory characteristics of the devices with nano dots were obtained, where the voltage scan was done between -20 V and 14 V and the threshold voltage shift was about 1 V.t 1 V.

  • By the research seen by examining plan which can improve at least systematization of a distribution sector, reform opening got into stride to Chinese distribution channel structure by improvement of a premodern Chinese circulation system and non-efficiency-structure. The competition means of the China distribution industry, the development direction, and the Chinese distribution channel strategy are received focusing on the 1990s, and it is going to show a way proposal.
