Group collaborative systems are recently emerging to support a group of users engaged in common tasks such as group decision making, engineering design, group scheduling, or collaborative writing. This paper provides an change management framework for the group collaborative system to facilitate managing dependency relationship between shared objects and dependent user views, and coordinating change and propagation activities between the two in distributed computing environments. Specifically, the framework adopts an object-oriented database paradigm and presents several object constructs capturing dependency management and change notification mechanisms. First, it introduces change management mechanisms with transient shared objects and secondly, it extends them into presistent object computing environment by integrating transaction management mechanisms and change notification mechanisms. A prototype change management framework is developed on a commercial object-oriented database management system.

The generalization of geospatial data is an important way in deriving a new database from an original one. The generalization of a geospatial object changes not only its geometric and aspatial attributes but also results in propagation to other objects along their relationship. We call it generalization propagation of geospatial databases. Without proper handling of the propagation, it brings about an inconsistent database or loss of semantics. Nevertheless, previous studies in the generalization have focused on the derivation of an object by isolating it from others. And they have proposed a set of generalization operators, which were intended to change the geometric and aspatial attributes of an object. In this paper we extend the definition of generalization operators to cover the propagation from an object to others. In order to capture the propagation, we discover a set of rules or constraints that must be taken into account during generalization procedure. Each generalization operator with constraints is expressed in relational algebra and it can be converted to SQL statements with ease. A prototype system was developed to verify the correctness of extended operators.
Sound propagation in shallow water changes from spherical spreading to cylindrical spreading, depending on boundary conditions, and this point is defined as a transition point of the sound propagation condition. Theoretically, the transition point can be estimated using the transmission loss as a function of source-receiver range. In this paper, the transmission loss curve in a Pekeris waveguide is predicted using a parabolic-equation based acoustic propagation model and using this transmission loss curve, the range from the source of the transition point is estimated, which is compared to the critical distance calculated using the sound speed ratio of water to sediment. In addition, the effects of the sound speed profile and source depth change on the transition point are investigated. Finally, the transition point is estimated using the transmission loss data measured during the period of the SAVEX15 (Shallow Water Acoustic Variability EXperiment 2015) conducted 65 km southwest of Jeju Island in May 2015, and it is compared to the ocean environmental parameters to understand the properties of sound propagation in the experimental area.

The low-cycle fatigue crack growth behavior of SUS 304 Stainless steel was investigated at 650.deg. C by the nonlinear fracture mechanics. Crack Propagation can be separated in to cycle-dependent and time-dependent, the former is correlated with .DELTA. $J_{f}$ , J-intergral range and the latter is correlated with J', modified J integral. Transition from cycle-dependent to time-dependent crack growth was successfully predicted using the .betha. hypothesis, which was proposed by the authors on the basis of an analysis on the interaction of elastic and creep strain. To investigate the reliability of .betha.-hypothesis, experimenting by the change of stress-level, stress rate and frequency, following conclusions were obtained. (1) High temperature fatigue crack propagation was separated into cycle-dependent and time-dependent. (2) Transition of crack propagation was predicted by .DELTA. $J_{c}$/.DELTA.$_{f}$ or .betha. (3) Lower limit in cycle-dependent crack propagation was obtained..
The majority of existing studies for quantifying uncertainties in climate change impact assessments suggest only the uncertainties of each stage, and not the total uncertainty and its propagation in the whole procedure. Therefore, this study has proposed a new method, the Uncertainty Delta Method (UDM), which can quantify uncertainties using the variances of projections (as the UDM is derived from the first-order Taylor series expansion), to allow for a comprehensive quantification of uncertainty at each stage and also to provide the levels of uncertainty propagation, as follows: total uncertainty, the level of uncertainty increase at each stage, and the percentage of uncertainty at each stage. For quantifying uncertainties at each stage as well as the total uncertainty, all the stages - two emission scenarios (ES), three Global Climate Models (GCMs), two downscaling techniques, and two hydrological models - of the climate change assessment for water resources are conducted. The total uncertainty took 5.45, and the ESs had the largest uncertainty (4.45). Additionally, uncertainties are propagated stage by stage because of their gradual increase: 5.45 in total uncertainty consisted of 4.45 in emission scenarios, 0.45 in climate models, 0.27 in downscaling techniques, and 0.28 in hydrological models. These results indicate the projection of future water resources can be very different depending on which emission scenarios are selected. Moreover, using Fractional Uncertainty Method (FUM) by Hawkins and Sutton (2009), the major uncertainty contributor (emission scenario: FUM uncertainty 0.52) matched with the results of UDM. Therefore, the UDM proposed by this study can support comprehension and appropriate analysis of the uncertainty surrounding the climate change impact assessment, and make possible a better understanding of the water resources projection for future climate change.

Engineering changes are indispensable engineering and management activities for manufactures to develop competitive products and to maintain consistency of its product data. Analysis of engineering changes provides a core functionality to support decision makings for engineering change management. This study aims to develop a method for analysis of engineering changes based on On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP), a proven database analysis technology that has been applied to various business areas. This approach automates data processing for engineering change analysis from product databases that follow an international standard for product data management (PDM), and enables analysts to analyze various aspects of engineering changes with its OLAP operations. The study consists of modeling a standard PDM database and a multidimensional data model for engineering change analysis, implementing the standard and multidimensional models with PDM and data cube systems and applying the implemented data cube to core functions of engineering change management, the evaluation and propagation of engineering changes.
External forecs acting on a pipe bend change when a transient pressure wave propagates through the bend. Analytical expressions are derived to compute the changes of these forces which depend mainly on static pressure rather than fluid momentum. This analysis reveals that the change of the vertical component of the force acting on a pipe bend with an angle larger than 90 may reverse in direction during the passage of a pressure wave through the bend.
This work presents a study on development of a practical and quantitative technique for assessment of the healthy state of a structure by piezoelectric impedance-based technique associated with longitudinal wave propagation measuring method. A truss structure embedded with piezoelectric patches is investigated for a fundamental study on estimation of the looseness of bolts in the joint. In order to evaluate the minute mechanical impedance change due to loosening bolt, a harmonic longitudinal elastic wave is applied to the structure by a pair of PZT patches and their electric impedance is measured simultaneously. According to the experimental results, the change of the electric impedance of P...

Corrosion fatigue fracture with change in the grain size of M.E.F. dual phase steel is investigated in 3.5% NaCI aqueous solution at pH 2, 4, 6, 9, and 11. Generally speaking, decrease in corrosion fatigue life is strongly dependent on decrease in pH and slightly on the grain size. For the B material with the big grain size, the fatigue life is small due to its large reduction ratio of corrosion fatigue life. The influence of grain size on the reduction ratio of corrosion fatigue life is large at pH 11-6. Whi9le at pH 4-2 the reduction ratio of corrosion fatigue life only depends on the corrosion effect. The larger grain size and the lass pH result in the greater influence on corrosion fatigue crack propagation rate. As pH decreases, the plateau portion in the crack propagation rate curves of the B material are distinct. Crack propagation rate curves become slow down at high .DELTA.K range because crack closure effect by minute corrosion products inside crack causes the oxidation corrosion action less effective for a certain period of time. In A material with small grain size, fatigue life is increased in proportion with increase of martensite intergranular which brings forth restraining the crack propagation decreases crack propagation rate. Corrosion pit which is created in the surface of specimen is found at pH 6,4 and 2 which is noticeable and the unevenness of the surface of the specimen becomes severe as pH decreases. The unevenness of corrosion fatigue fracture surface is severe as the effect of pH increases i.e. as pH decreases. In proportion with increase in the grain size and decrease in pH, the aspect of brittle fracture becomes evident.

PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the crack propagation depth through a slab and crack width movement in continuously reinforced concrete slab systems (CRCSs). METHODS : The crack width movements in continuously reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) and continuously reinforced concrete railway track (CRCT) were measured in the field for different crack spacings. In addition, the crack width movements in both CRCP and CRCT were simulated using finite element models of CRCP and CRCT. The crack width movements, depending on the unit temperature change, were obtained from both the field tests and numerical analysis models. RESULTS : The experimental analysis results show that the magnitudes of the crack width movements in CRCSs were related to not only the crack spacing, but also the crack propagation depth. In CRCP, the magnitudes of the crack width movements were more closely related to the crack propagation depths. In CRCT, the crack width movements were similar for different cracks since most were through cracks. If the numerical analysis was performed to predict the crack width movements by assuming that the crack propagates completely through the slab depth, the predicted crack width movements were similar to the actual ones in CRCT, but those may be overestimated in CRCP. CONCLUSIONS : The magnitudes of the crack width movements in CRCSs were mainly affected by the crack propagation depths through the slabs.
