  • The purpose of this study is to develop Music Recall Technique for affect modification using programmed series of classical music, and further to apply the technique as therapeutic intervention for clients with anorexia nervosa. Music Recall Technique is composed of two sub-technique: first one is 'Music Recall(MR)' which is the way to reproduce of existing music on one's head and mind after listening to the music, and second intervention is 'Creative Music Recall(CMR)' which is the way to modify the exposed musical pieces or newly learned musical pieces. A client with anorexia nervosa with severe anxiety, anger and depression participated in this case study. The MRT is implemented in different stages pertaining to client's level of utilizing the music recall skill for the period of 10 sessions. Situations eliciting negative emotions were identified and music recalling was reinforced for the pertaining situation in order for the negative emotion to be coped and reduced by the end of session time. The client participated for 10 sessions, and was asked to fill out self-report on the affect change using MRT. Visual Analogue Scale was used for pre and post test for each session to measure the self perceived level of negative affect. State-trait anxiety inventory was also used to measure the anxiety level following the implementation of MRT. As results, negative emotions, such as anxiety, anger and depression were modified during stimulative-sedative music recall process. These negative emotions were decreased mostly during stimulative MR, especially, in the beginning process. Each negative affect on negative situation measured by VAS during each and entire session have been decreased. Negative emotion measured by state-trait anxiety inventory, state-trait anger expression inventory, and hopelessness-depression inventory were decreased as well. The results suggest that stimulative music using contemporary classic music was effective in reduction and modification of negative affect such as anxiety, anger and depression. It shows that Music Recall Technique can be a meaningful intervention for affect modification, and further it can be utilized as self-help in the outside of music therapy setting.

  • Most of the accidents occur due to drowsiness while driving, avoiding road signs and due to driver's distraction. Driver's distraction depends on various factors which include talking with passengers while driving, mood disorder, nervousness, anger, over-excitement, anxiety, loud music, illness, fatigue and different driver's head rotations due to change in yaw, pitch and roll angle. The contribution of this paper is two-fold. Firstly, a data set is generated for conducting different experiments on driver's distraction. Secondly, novel approaches are presented that use features based on facial points; especially the features computed using motion vectors and interpolation to detect a special type of driver's distraction, i.e., driver's head rotation due to change in yaw angle. These facial points are detected by Active Shape Model (ASM) and Boosted Regression with Markov Networks (BoRMaN). Various types of classifiers are trained and tested on different frames to decide about a driver's distraction. These approaches are also scale invariant. The results show that the approach that uses the novel ideas of motion vectors and interpolation outperforms other approaches in detection of driver's head rotation. We are able to achieve a percentage accuracy of 98.45 using Neural Network.

  • The aims of this study are to explore the experiences of modern Korean women who experience childbirth and to examine the perceptions of body and appearance in everyday life and how fashion provides a means of self-expression. The study utilizes focused ethnography (a qualitative research method) of cultural technology magazines, conducted to observe women's behavior and language, and to explore their life values, such as beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors in fashion style in everyday life. The purpose of this study is to reveal the actual meaning of childbirth, the resulting change in appearance, and patterns of specific style expression. This will enable a better understanding of the experiences of married women with children in Korea using vivid language, by which an in-depth understanding of their lives may be promoted. A survey of 24 women (aged 25~40) who had experienced pregnancy and childbirth were included in the study, categorized as early pregnancy, pre-birth, and post-birth parenting. Subcategories were derived as "unfeasible pregnancy," "unpredictable and unprepared anxiety," "self-awareness of changing bodies," "pressure on healthy bodies," "opportunity to let go of pressure on appearance management," "pressure on hard parenting," and "experience of change in unmanaged areas." Pregnant women and women with children demonstrated tastes and preferences in style suitable for differentiated situations and roles, along with perceptions of appearance.

  • Today, everybody lives in the stress. So 50% to 80% or 60% to 80% of the modern diseases are estimated what is caused by the stress. And one of the most important point of the stress is a too serious and continuos tension state. Therefore the best way to promotion, persistence, prevention and treatment of the modern man's health will be the relaxion from the tension state. The relax therapy as known as am effective method to the disease which as concerned with stress. that can be adapted to the treatment of anxiety-related diseases, insomnia, hypertension, tension headache, migraine, asthma, preparation of delivery, G-I disorders and menstrual disorders. Until now we guess the change of a relaxed state by the observation to the change of autonomic nervous system(ANS) and EEG. From the point of the ANS, sympathetic nervous system progresses slowly but parasympathetic nervous system increases the activity. In the EEG, both the alpha-wave concerned with the deep physical relaxed state and emotional stability and the theta-wave appeared in the state of meditation are increased. Current studies show that among the biochemical changes, especially serotinin like body hormone is increased by the feeling of the stability or the happiness. So, to see the change of the relaxed state in the image of the D.I.T.I., we used the deviational differences between the pre-relaxed state and the post-relaxed state of 70 people. As a result, the portional deviation of the face is decreased in the image of the D.I.T.I. So it can be thaught that we can determine the changes of the relaxed state by the D.I.T.I.

  • Gardenia jasminoides (G. jasminoides) is traditionally used to treat insomnia, jaundice, emotional disorders, hepatic disease, and inflammatory disease. Previously, we found that geniposide and the water extract of G. jasminoides increased $Cl^-$ influx in neuroblastoma. Here we examined the sychopharmacological activities of G. jasminoides and its constituents. G. jasminoides extract was orally administered at 100 and 200 mg/kg, and genipin and geniposide were intraperitoneally injected at 2, 10, and 20 mg/kg. G. jasminoides extract (200 mg/kg) significantly decreased total open field activity but increased rearing activity in the center of the open field, suggesting an increase in exploratory activity. Genipin and geniposide did not change open field activity, but geniposide (20 mg/kg) increased rearing activity in the central area. The extract (200 mg/kg) significantly decreased rotarod and wire-balancing activity, but genipin and geniposide did not. No compounds influenced thiopental-induced sleeping or electroshock-induced seizures. The extract (200 mg/kg) significantly increased staying time in the open arms of the elevated plus maze and the entry ratio into the open arms, and geniposide (20 mg/kg) also increased open arm entry. Electroshock stress decreased open arm activity, but the extract and geniposide (20 mg/kg) significantly reversed that effect. This results indicate that G. jasminoides extract and geniposide alleviated anxiety with greater efficacy in stressed animals than normal animals.

  • Objectives: In Korea, the percentage of elderly is increasing at an unprecedented rate, and is expected to account for 40% of the population by 2060. This massive demographic change stresses the importance of research on aging as it is necessary to improve the quality of life (QoL) of this population. This study aimed to examine the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of the rural elderly and to clarify its association with the nutrient adequacy ratio (NAR). Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed in S-gun, Chonbuk, a critical agricultural area. The elderly people without abnormal physical functioning composed our study population and the data were collected by personal visits to 336 elderly people aged over 65 years (110 males and 226 females). Subjects were interviewed with questionnaires pertaining to general characteristics and EuroQol (EQ-5D). Nutrient intakes were assessed two days by 24-hours recall method. Subjects were defined as high QOL group if EQ-5D index with Nam's model was above the median. Results: Generally, EQ-5D index was lower in women than in man, and lower in older subjects than in younger subjects. The percentages of people below the median were 42% (low QoL group) and 58% (high QoL group) were found to be the above the median. The high QoL group had higher NAR, especially for vitamin C, vitamin B1, vitamin B2 and folate. All dimensions in the EQ-5D were affected by NAR of some nutrients and especially anxiety/depression dimension was significantly correlated with NAR of 5 nutrients (protein, calcium, iron, vitamin C and vitamin B1) and EQ-5D scores. Conclusions: HRQol was significantly reduced in elderly with increasing age and this was more pronounced in women than in man. The NAR of some nutrients were associated with the EQ-5D index, especially anxiety/depression dimension, among rural elderly.

  • Five strongest crimes against women has rapidly increased recently, and women' anxiety is also increasing. Especially, women who reside alone in houses show significantly high anxiety. Such social change is increasing necessity of applying CPTED to housing environment of a single woman household. However, there have been less than enough number of researches on application on CPTED to housing environment of single woman household. So, this study would like to suggest housing environment of single woman household through CPTED guideline. With respect to research method, this study surveyed single woman households in their twenties and thirties who reside at single houses in Gwanak Gu, Gangnam Gu, Songpa Gu, and Mapo Gu in Seoul about necessity of CPTED guideline. Based on the survey results, this study conducted frequency analysis and descriptive statistics; and conducted independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Scheffe's posteriori test, according to demographic characteristics. As a result, differences in the contents of CPTED guideline by the demographic characteristics turned out to be small, generally. Thus, I concluded that suggestion for housing environment according to characteristics is not necessary. Instead, I would suggest contents of CPTED guideline that gained more than 4 points for housing environment. Research results of this study are as follow. First, 'Securing view of inside and outside of the house and controlling access' should be applied to housing environment of single woman households in their twenties and thirties residing in single houses in Seoul. Second, 'Securing view of an alley and improving walking space' should be applied. Third, 'installing CCTV and emergency bell' should be applied. Fourth, 'reinforcing territoriality of space' should be applied.

  • Purpose : This study was performed to assess the clinical effect of Daejo-hwan(DJH) on climacteric syndrome, not only common symptoms such as hot flushes, anxiety, palpitation and so on, but also urogenital tract disturbances like vaginal dryness and sexual problems. Methods : We randomly divided 120 women with the climacteric syndrome into two groups. One group received only DJH 2 pills(4g) a time, three times a day for 8 weeks and the other group didn't get any treatment for the same period. We evaluated sonography, DXA, blood test, female hormone test and questionnaires in the beginning as well as after 8 weeks of the treatment. Symptoms were measured by Kupperman's index, Menopausal Rating Scale and the Greene Climacteric Scale. Results : In this study, DJH was innoxious on liver and kidney. And DJH in the treated group reduced climacteric symptoms significantly as compared to the control group without enlargement of uterus myoma and the change of estradiol. In Kupperman's index and MRS, DJH in the treated group especially had effects on fatigue, shoulder pain. anxiety, headache, hot flushes as well as sexual problems. Conclusion : These results suggest that DJH can be useful in treating various climacteric symptoms including sexual problems without influences on the size of uterus myoma and estradiol.
