The Effects of Phosphate Starvation on the Activities of Acid and Alkaline Phosphatase, Fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase, Sucrose-phosphate Synthase and Nitrate Reductase in Melon (Cucumis melo L.) Seedlings

  • Plants response to phosphate starvation include the changes of activity of some enzymes, such as phosphatases, fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase, sucrose-phosphate synthase and nitrate reductase. In this study, to determine the effects of phosphate starvation on the change of activities of acid and alkaline phosphatase, fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase, sucrose-phosphate synthase, and nitrate reductase were studied in melon seedlings (Cucumis melo L.). The content of the protein and chlorophyll tended to relatively reduced in melon seedlings subjected to phosphate starvation. Acid phosphatase activity in first and second leaves of melon seedlings was relatively higher than that of third and fourth leaves of seedlings in 14 days after phosphate starvation treatment, respectively. Active native-PAGE band patterns of acid phosphatase in melon leaves showed similar to activities of acid phosphatase, whereas alkaline phosphatase activity was different from the change in the activity of acid phosphatase. Inorganic phosphate content in melon seedlings leaves was constant. The changes of Fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase and sucrose phosphate synthase activities showed similar patterns in melon seedlings leaves, and between these enzymes activities and phosphate nutrition negatively related. Fructose-1,6- bisphosphatase and sucrose phosphate synthase activities showed significant difference in second and fourth leaves, but nitrate reductase showed significant difference in first and second leaves in 14days after phosphate starvation treatment. We concluded that phosphate nutrition could affect the distribution of phosphate, carbon and nitrogen in melon seedlings.

다양한 다리 꼬기 자세가 요통환자의 체간근 활성도에 미치는 영향 (The Change of Muscle Activities of Trunk Muscles during Various Leg-Crossing Positions in Low Back Pain Patients)

  • Purpose: Leg-crossing sitting is very common for men and woman. No solid evidence exists for either a beneficial or a detrimental effect of this posture. This study investigated the change of activities of trunk muscles between the normal group and the low back pain group during various leg-crossing positions. Methods: The subjects were consisted of 10 subjects who don't have low back pain and 10 subjects who have low back pain. In this study, we used electromyography(EMG) to evaluate the activities of both the trunk muscles (rectus abdominis, external oblique, internal oblique, and multifidus) during various leg-crossing positions (up-right, leg-crossing, tailor-crossing, and ankle-crossing). We analyzed the data by using repeated one way ANOVA. Results: In normal group, there were increased in EMG activities of trunk muscles, but no significant differences during leg-crossing positions. In back pain group, there were increased in EMG activities of right external oblique, left. internal oblique, and both multifidus muscles in leg-crossing and tailor-crossing position, but no significant differences during leg-crossing positions. There was no significant difference of muscle activity of trunk muscles between the back pain group and the normal group. Conclusion: We suggest that low back pain people who have weak muscles of rectus abdominis, external and internal oblique are often experienced in leg-crossing posture than normal. To compensate this unstability of trunk, leg-crossing posture is substituted passive structure for activities of active muscle.

  • 대한민국은 사회적 고령화 문제와 더불어 재난현장 대응활동의 주역인 소방공무원 조직의 연령 구성비의 고연령화 문제 또한 심각한 상황에 이를 것으로 전망된다. 대표적인 재난대응조직인 서울소방의 경우 향후 10년~15년 사이에 50대 이상의 비율이 31%에서 40%에 이를 것으로 예상되는데, 이는 재난 현장에서 강인한 체력과 건강한 신체를 필수 요소로 하는 소방공무원에 있어서는 일반직 공무원과는 달리 심각한 문제가 되지 않을 수 없다. 본 연구는 서울 소방공무원의 연령현황과 추이를 분석하고 국내 최초로 현장활동 소방공무원의 현장활동 한계의 기준 연령을 정의하고 3가지 분석기준을 통해 개괄적이나마 현장활동 한계기준을 도출하고, 이 기준을 통해 추이분석을 하였다.

이·통장이 경험한 자살예방활동에 대한 내러티브 분석 (Narrative Analysis for Suicide Prevention Activities Experienced by Chiefs of tong/ri)

  • 본 연구는 자살예방활동에 참여 중인 이·통장의 경험과 변화 과정에 대하여 탐구하고자 하였다. 연구 참여자는 지역사회 내에서 2년 이상 자살예방활동에 참여하고 있는 3명의 이·통장으로 하였으며, 각자의 경험을 심층적으로 이해하기 위하여 질적 연구방법인 내러티브 탐구를 활용하였다. 연구결과를 이·통장의 자살예방활동 참여 시작, 경험, 변화와 성장 순으로 구성하고 그 의미를 탐색하였다. 그 의미는 다음과 같다. 이·통장 활동을 하면서 쉽게 할 수 있겠다는 생각으로 '가벼운 시작'을 하였으며, 자살예방이라는 어려운 문제에서 나름 각자의 방법을 터득하여 활동을 유지하는 '부담감에서 벗어나기'를 거치게 되었다. 그리고 '이·통장으로서의 책임감'은 자살예방활동을 지속하게 하는 원동력이었으며, 그 활동으로 인해 자연스럽게 '나의 변화'를 발견할 수 있었다.

고양이에서 동맥혈 탄산가스 분압의 변동이 연수의 통각정보 처리과정에 미치는 영향 (Effect of the Changes in Arterial Carbon Dioxide Pressure on the Neuronal Activities of Rostral Ventrolateral Medulla in the Cat)

  • 통각정보나 과탄산증이 내재진통계를 활성화 시켜서 진통효과를 가져온다는 것은 잘 알려져 있다. 이 러한 일련의 과정에서 중추신경세포의-역활에 대한 체계적인 연구가 요구되는 바, 16마리의 성숙한 고 양이를 u-chloralose로 마취한 후 연수 및 좌골신경을 노출시켜, 상부연수의 복외측부(rostral ventrolateral medulla, 이후 RVLM으로 칭함)세포활동이 탄산가스분압의 변동에 어떠한 영향을 받는 지를 관찰하였다. RVLM에서 세포의 기록법으로 그 변화를 관찰한 바, 총 53개의 세포에서 자발적 인 활동을 보였고, 이 중 28개는 심맥관계 세포, 16개는 호흡관련 세포, 2개는 심맥관계-호흡 동시 관련 세포이었으며, 7개는 자발적 활동은 보이나 심 장주기나 호흡주기와 무관 하였다. 28개의 심맥관계 세포중 11개에서는 동맥혈내 탄산가스분압이 상승하였을때 세포 활동이 증가하고, 13개 세포에서는 반대로 감소하였으며, 나머지 4개 에서는 특별한 변화가 없었다. 16개의 호흡관련 세포중 9개에서는 동맥혈내 탄산가스분압이 상승하였을때 활동이 증가하고, 6개에 서는 감소하였으며 1개는 특별한 변화가 없었다 B개의 심맥관계-호흡관련 세포에서는 탄산\ulcorner스 분압의 상승에 큰 영향을 받지 않았다. 심 장 혹은 호흡주기와 무관하였던 7개의 세포중 4개는 동맥 혈 탄산가스 분압이 상승하였을때 세포 활 동이 감소하였고, 2개는 상승하였으며 1개는 큰 영향을 받지 않았다 말초신경 자극과 동시에 탄산가스분압을상승시켰을 때 심먹관계 세포의 A반응은큰 영향이 없었으 나 C반응은 상승하였다. 결론적으로 RVLM에는 동맥혈 탄산가스 분압이 상승하였을 때 활동이 증가하는 세포들이 존재하고, 이때 말초화학 감수기의 영 향보다는 탄산가스가 중추에 직접 작용할 가능성이 크며 과탄산증에 의한 내 재진통작용도 RVLM을 통하지는 않는다고 생각된다.

  • Quality circle activities as an important part of TQM have greatly contributed to the development of Japanese industry. Recently, however, there are severe criticisms about quality circle activities in Japan. Quality circle activities must be reformed in accordance with new world-wide industrial circumstances. In this respect, several Japanese companies are trying to change the method for implementing their circle activities. In this case study, I have investigated one of these movements which occurs in several Japanese companies. It allows us to gain an insight into the way we might go here in Korea.

에탄올을 투여한 흰쥐 노조직의 항산화효소계 활성에 미치는 단백질과 섬유소의 영향 (Effects of Protein and Fiber on Antioxidant Enzyme Activites of Brain in Ethanol-Treated Rats)

  • This study was to investigate the effect of dietary protein and fiber on the antioxidant enzyme activities of brain in acute or chronic ethanol-treated rats. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were fed on diets containing two levels of protein(7%, 20%) with two levels of fiber (5%, 10%) Rats were administered 40%(v/v) ethanol(5g/kg body weight)orally 90min before decaptiation in acute ethanol-treated groups and 25%(v/v) ethanol(5g/kg body weight) once a day for 5 weeks in chronic ethanol treated-groups. The rats were sacrificed after 5 weeks of feeding periods. Superoxide dismutase and gluthathione S-transferase activities were lower in chronic ethanol-treated groups than acute ethanol-treated groups whereas catalase and glutathuone peroxidase activities were significantly increased by chronic ethanol treatment. Low protein supplement accelerated to change of their activities however dietary fiber levels did not affect antioxidant enzyme activities. Chronic ethanol treatment and/or low protein supplement results in increasing the brain lipid peroxide content but in lowering glutathione level. (Korean J Nutrition 33(6) ; 613~618, 2000)

  • In answer to the increase of demand for the safety in railroad, the safety activities are tried out. According to 'KORAIL Instruction number 2001-49', the project for developing Integrated Centralized Traffic Control Center has been carried out and the safety activities are guaranteed by documents named 'Safety Plan' and 'Safety Requirements' from this project. However the development system is not enough for the full safety activities. Therefore this paper we describes the relationship of safety activities and development systems and proposes the efficient direction of safety activities.

  • Hepatoprotective activities of 26 traditional Korean herbal prescriptions described in Donghibogam were evaluated in vivo and in vitro screening system. Twenty one prescriptions appeared to be active. Six prescriptions among them showed highly significant hepatoprotective activities; Shihogyegy-Tang(柴胡桂枝湯), Soshiho-Tang(小柴胡湯), Shiho plus Younggolmoryo-Tang(柴胡加龍骨牡蠣湯), Yinjinho-Tang(茵蔯蒿湯), Yinsam-Tang(人蔘湯) and Shashim-Tang(瀉心湯). Shihogyegy-Tang was most active. They reduced the release of transaminases from dissociated hepatocytes by thioacetamide, and serum transaminases and alkaline phosphatase activities of rat with carbontetrachloride-induced hepatitis. They inhibited significantly lipid peroxidation and cellular fatty change of liver by carbontetrachloride.

Synthesis and Biological Evaluation of New Aminothiazolyl Cephalosporins with Elongated Side Chains

  • The elongation of the chain length at 2'position of aminothiazolylacetamido group of cephalosporin antibiotics was achieved. The derivatives with elongated side chain at 2'position were successfully synthesis and their in vitro activities were evaluated. It is indicated that there is an optimum range of the chain length in order to exhibit higher biological activities. This result could open a possibility for the development of the cephalosporin antibiotics with higher activities by further variation of the substituents at other positions. The cephalosporin derivatives with a simple (relatively non-functionalized) side chain as well as with a linear extended side chain were also prepared. Low activities of these derivatives led to a conclusion that either simple (non-functionalized) change or linear elongation of the side chain does not enhance the antibacterial activities.
