  • This study clarifies the theoretical background and the floor plan characteristics of component schools in Small Schools Complexes. The recent researches have proved the enhancement of students' social relationship and school security in the new school environment. The findings fur the characteristics by analyzing the component schools from six school complexes follow: (1) Students can access their classrooms in component schools through main entrances, shared corridors and private corridors. (2) Teachers' area is segregated from students' area, which does not encourage the social relationship between teachers and students. (3) Some of special classrooms, which are generally considered as shared facilities in a Small Schools Complex, are planned within component schools for accommodating specialized educational programs. (4) A component school occupying multiple floors reduces Intelligibility of space and chances of users' visual contact to colleagues. Finally, this study proposed the alternative floor planning directions in order to improve users' social relationship in a component school.

  • Recently many disadvantageous problems have been found during the process of domestic LRT(Light Rail Transit) projects and that can influence negative effects on the development of domestic railway. Since many projects have been progressed while having few original technologies, it is no exaggeration to say that they are being built unreasonable railway which lacks economic feasibility. The on-going LRT projects which are being carried out by the central or local government have a tendency to favor the systems and rolling stocks that have been approved by other countries through years of experience, therefore it can be said that we are having few chances to develop original technologies. In this study, we would like to promote railway development and jump up to the level of advanced railway standards through developing our unique and independent future LRT technology.

  • Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation - which is operating the subway lines No. 5, 6, 7 and 8 of Seoul's subway - has been operating a variety of motor cars and rail inspection vehicles to transport workers and materials into the tunnel at night after the daily revenue service for the maintenance of tunnel structure and track. However, the air quality in tunnels has been contaminated due to the operation of diesel engine cars, and rail inspection vehicles are now having higher chances of risks since the lightweight vehicles made with aluminum bogie became too obsolete. In this study, MRT type eco-friendly electric multi-inspection car has been elaborated for the purpose of improvement of tunnel environment and replacement of motor cars and rail inspection vehicles.

  • In this study, we organize and explain various ways to construct 3D models in the 2D plane using Geogebra, mathematical education software that enables us to visualize dynamically the interaction between algebra and geometry. In these ways, we construct three unit vectors for 3 dimensions at a point on the Cartesian coordinates, on the basis of which we can build up the 3D models by putting together basic mathematical objects like points, lines or planes. We can apply the ways of constructing the 3 dimensions on the Cartesian coordinates to modeling of various structures in the real world, and have chances to translate, rotate, zoom, and even animate the structures by means of slider, one of the very important functions in Geogebra features. This study suggests that the visualizing and dynamic features of Geogebra help for sure to make understood and maximize learning effectiveness on mechanical modeling or the 3D CAD.

  • Walt Disney Feature Animation released high quality films such as 'Frozen', 'Big Hero 6', 'Wreck-it Ralph', 'Zootopia', 'Moana', 'Frozen 2' and not only got high score in box office but showed great CG and visuals. However, making feature animation requires a lot of time, money, and efforts so it is very important to support studios' artists to finish each show within limited budget and time. This paper shows artists' training program such as 'Short Circuit' and 'Bootcamp' that walt disney feature animation provides their artists to improve their creativity and do their jobs artistically and efficiently. Disney's training program not only provides artists various training classes but gives them chances to work on short animation which enhances artistic skills and enable them to work in different departments and experience different tasks. This paper also explains some training cases of CG studios in South Korea and Disney Animations' in-house tools.

  • Purpose: This study was to explore the empowerment experienced by hospital nurses. Methods: Focus group was used to gather data and open coding method suggested by Strauss and Corbin was used to analyze the data. Thirty-four nurses who have clinical experience of more than three years at three university hospitals were participated in this study. Results: Five categories were identified: Getting chances of opportunities to show personal capabilities and motivations, acknowledgement, support, recognition and delightfulness. The major sources of empowerment were the acknowledgement of patients and family, colleagues, supervisors. doctors, and other personnels in hospital. Conclusion: Focus groups could be an useful tool for empowerment research in nursing. Further research will be needed to clarify the relationship among individual, group and organization.

  • Many students prefer to study abroad to increase their chances of having a better future. While studying abroad they may encounter difficulties such as adapting to the culture of the country they are studying in. Chinese students coming to Korea are no exception to this, and when they are studying abroad, the new environment they are in may cause them hardships which may impact on their social life and even their academic performance. In order to develop their careers, they face many difficulties and challenges. Cultural differences they experience may change their attitudes, thoughts, and values. This research focuses on international students who are not yet certain about their future plans. In order to grasp levels of daily life satisfaction, ease of communication, and future planning orientation, this study conducted a survey of Chinese students who study in Korea. The empirical analysis showed that students with high level of life satisfaction have a tendency to enter graduate school. However, communication has no relation to future planning orientation.

  • Add-on selling can provide new chances to increase sellers' profits and meet customers' needs. Although prior studies have advocated add-on selling for its business value, there is an argument that add-on selling can cause customer repulsion. Therefore, we need to understand customer purchasing pattern related to add-on selling in order to promote it and to mitigate the customer repulsion. To that end, we applied data mining techniques to the 24,925 transactions of data from an online open market in Korea. We then conducted feature selection to investigate the most influential factors that can explain the characteristics of add-on selling transactions using a classification model. We also identified association rules among add-on selling and promotions. Finally, based on the findings in our experiments, we proposed add-on selling strategies for the target online market.

  • Cryptography aims at transmitting secure data over an unsecure network in coded version so that only the intended recipient can analyze it. Communication through messages, emails, or various other modes requires high security so as to maintain the confidentiality of the content. This paper deals with IDEA's shortcoming of generating weak keys. If these keys are used for encryption and decryption may result in the easy prediction of ciphertext corresponding to the plaintext. For applying genetic approach, which is well-known optimization technique, to the weak keys, we obtained a definite solution to convert the weaker keys to stronger ones. The chances of generating a weak key in IDEA are very rare, but if it is produced, it could lead to a huge risk of attacks being made on the key, as well as on the information. Hence, measures have been taken to safeguard the key and to ensure the privacy of information.

  • The efficiency of transportation requests fulfillment can be increased through extending the problem of vehicle routing and scheduling by the possibility of subcontracting a part of the requests to external carriers. This problem extension transforms the usual vehicle routing and scheduling problems to the more general integrated operational transportation problems. In this contribution, we analyze the motivation, the chances, the realization, and the challenges of the integrated operational planning and report on experiments for extending the plain Vehicle Routing Problem to a corresponding problem combining vehicle routing and request forwarding by means of different sub-contraction types. The extended problem is formalized as a mixed integer linear programming model and solved by a commercial mathematical programming solver. The computational results show tremendous costs savings even for small problem instances by allowing subcontracting. Additionally, the performed experiments for the operational transportation planning are used for an analysis of the decision on the optimal fleet size for own vehicles and regularly hired vehicles.
