The global movie industry is continuing rapid growth through application of the latest technology. 3D movies are being produced and shown for a more effective viewing experience. Special chairs for audiences are being experimentally manufactured and installed for the greatest viewing effect. This special chair has a structure that applies vibrating stimuli to specific parts of the body by attaching vibration transducers to theater chairs and synchronizing it with each scene of the movie. In a previous study, it has been confirmed that we can analyze the vibration transfer characteristics of sponge seats through the application of an experimental modal analysis method and obtain design variables easily. In this paper, we examine the major design parameters needed in the development of a foaming sponge seat in which auxiliary springs are inserted to improve the vibration transfer effect of a chair seat. Through analyzing several prototypes by applying experimentation as well as the experimental modal analysis method, it was confirmed that the effect of vibration transfer can be improved through the use of an auxiliary member.
The Danish furniture designer, Verner Panton's work is comprised of the appreciation and application of the traditional for the application of a wide range of high-tech material accompanied by the bold and primary color used his work, the purpose of this study is to draw the expressive characteristics apparent in his work by analyzing the origin, background and case study of his design. The origin including the background of Verner Panton's design is based on the identity of the Danish Modernism and International design trend, which is revolved around the pop culture and is under the direct influence of Martin Johansen and Poul Henningsen. In order to understand the expressive characteristics found in the Verner Panton's chair design, a case study was conducted from 1955 where his debut piece of work, Cone chair was premiered at the Fredericia furniture Fair up through 1970 where Visiona 2 project was presented at the Koln International furniture fair. As a result, the total of 41 chair designs was analyzed by the following four criteria: form, finishing, functionality, and structure. According to the result of the analysis, the design by Verner Panton was based on the experiment of the organic form, his tendency to the pop culture, the concept of space, mobility, simplicity, and sensible creativity of space. Once criticized for being extemporary and consumptive, nevertheless, the outcome of Verner Panton's chairs not only introduced the fresh new and positive ideas that have been mass-producing for over 40 yews but also they keep on getting upgraded in accordance with the development of material.
In order to reduce the dependency on fossil fuels, a policy to increase the production capacity of wind turbine is set up. This can be achieved with increasing the dimensions of offshore wind turbine blades. However, this increase in size implies serious problems of stability and durability. Considering the cost of large turbines and financial consequences of their premature failure, it is imperative to carry out numerical simulations over long periods. Here, an energy-conserving time-stepping scheme is proposed in order to ensure the satisfying computation of long-term response. The proposed scheme is implemented for three-dimensional solid based on Biot strain measures, which is used for modeling flexible blades. The simulations are performed at full spatial scale. For reliable design process, the wind loads should be represented as realistically as possible, including the fluid-structure interaction (FSI) dynamic effects on wind turbine blades. However, full-scale 3D FSI simulations for long-term wind loading remain of prohibitive computation cost. Thus, the model to quantify the wind loads proposed here is a simple, but not too simple to be representative for preliminary design studies.
The structures of 8-membered azalactone isomers produced from photocyclization of 2-(N,N-dibenzylamino)ethyl benzoylacetate were determined by the X-ray structure analysis to clarify the stereochemical behavior of a 1,8-biradical. The remarkable stereoselectivity in cyclization of the 1,8-biradical to form cis- and trans-isomers of the azalactone was not observed. The ring conformations were boat-chair like and dihedral angles between C$_5$- and C$_6$- phenyl groups were ca 45$\circ$ in the both isomers. The 1,8-biradicals in the transition state for the cyclization would have nearly same boat-chair like conformation and twisted configuration with the dihedral angle of ca 45$\circ$ as the corresponding isomer, and this is responsible for luck of stereoselectivity in long-chain biradical cyclization.
The B3LYP method based on the density functional theory(DFT) is shown to be much better than the ab initio MP2 method for structural determination of diphosphadithiatetrazocine systems having transannular S--S bonding. The presence of bonding between the two sulfur atoms across the cyclic ring is theoretically confirmed in the case of the neutral diphosphadithiatetrazocine. The S--S dobding disappears in the ionized species. The planarity of the dicationic heterocyclic ring system turns out to be closely associated with the $\pi-electron$ delocalization over the entire ring as well as the N-S-N bonds, which become stiffened upon ionizaiton. In the case of dianionic species, the chair-boat and chair conformers are nearly degenerate and far more stable than the crown conformer.
The structure of cis-(malonato)[(4R,5R)-4,5-bis(aminomethyl)-2-isopropyl-1,3-dioxolane]platinum(II) with a potent anticancer activity has been determined by the X-ray crystallographic method. Crystal data are as follows: Pt(C/sub 11/H/sub 20/N₂O/sub 6/), M/sub 4/=471.38, monoclinic, P2₁, a=7.112(1), b=33.615(3), c=7.135(1)Å, β=116.80(1)°, V=1522.6(3)Å, and Z=4. The two independent molecules with very similar structures are approximately related by pseudo two-fold screw axis symmetry, which makes the monolinic cell look like the orthorhombic cell with one molecule in the asymmetric unit and space group C222₁. The crystal packing mode is similar to that of the analogue with the dimethyl substituents instead of the isopropyl group. The Pt atom is coordinate to two O and two N atoms in a square planar structure. The six-membered chelate ring in the leaving ligand assumes a conformation intermediate between the half chair and the boat forms. The seven-membered ring in the carrier ligand assumes a twist-chair conformation and the oxolane ring assumes an envelope conformation. Crystal packing consists of the extensive hydrogen-bonding network in the two-dimensional molecular layers and weak van der Waals interactions between these layers.
The structures and gas-phase ionization energies (ΔG°) of Meldrum's acid (I) and related cyclic (II-VI) and acyclic compounds (VII-IX) are investigated theoretically at the MP2/6-31+$G^*$, B3LYP/6-31+$G^*$, B3LYP/6- 311+$G^{**}$, B3LYP/6-311++G(3df,2p) and G3(+)(MP2) levels. Conformations of three neutral cyclic series vary gradually from boat (Meldrum's acid, I), to twisted chair (II) and to chair (III) as the methylene group is substituted for the ether oxygen successively. The preferred boat form of I can be ascribed to the two strong $n_O$ → σ* c-c antiperiplanar vicinal charge transfer interactions and electrostatic attraction between negatively charged C¹ and positively charged C⁴at the opposite end of the boat. All the deprotonated anionic forms have half-chair forms due to the two strong $n_C$ → π* c=0 vicinal charge transfer interactions. The dipole-dipole interaction theory cannot account for the higher acidity of Meldrum's acid (I) than dimedone (III). The origin of the anomalously high acidity of I is the strong increase in the vicinal charge transfer ($n_C$ → π* c=0) and 1,4-attrative electrostatic interactions (C¹↔C⁴) in the ionization (I → $I^-$ + $H^+$). In the acyclic series (VII-IX) the positively charged end atom, C⁴, is absent and the attractive electrostatic stabilization (C¹↔C⁴) is missing in the anionic form so that the acidities are much less than the corresponding cyclic series.
Benchmarking is more than just a comparison of measures about different company's performance in a wider sense. It is a methodology of learning-comparing-learning, at least within small and medium sized enterprises. This learning is not just limited to learn by copying successful concepts from other enterprises or competitors. It starts in learning more about the own company, about its structure and processes causing its own success or its failure. This kind of learning is necessary before the enterprise starts watching for a suitable Benchmarking partner. Learning from each other's strengths and weaknesses is the main goal of the European research project Quality beyond Borders! By using the Benchmarking methodology, small and medium sized enterprises get the opportunity to take part in a Benchmarking study and can learn more about the different strengths and weaknesses of other enterprises on both sides of the border. The results of such a Benchmarking can help to identify potentials for future cooperations among German and Polish enterprises in the same market or business. These potentials can lie in different ways of realising the same success or top-position. The Benchmarking study is not focused on an special business or region. That helps to find out trends for different kinds of top-positions, which can be claimed in all markets within a country. Every trend is characterised by different success factors which are responsible for the success in this top-position. In a first overview, the results of the Benchmarking study show 5 different groups of top-positions within a market which all have different profiles regarding to the importance of their success factors. By the end of the Benchmarking study it will be possible, to give answer about the special reasons for different kind of successes of these groups. These answers can be related to a special region within a country, a special business or of course related to possible differences in the expression of the group success factors in comparison of both countries.
This study was jointly conducted by the department of nursing science in a college of natural sciences and the furniture design department in the art and physical education to research the critical factors for the furniture development for the Elderly in consideration of the surging number of senior citizens not only in Korea but also globally. On the basis of the Elderly's physical and mental characteristics investigated by the department of nursing science, the furniture design guideline for the Elderly was presented. The following points should be considered at designing the furniture for the Elderly. First, multiple functions like chair with removable toilet bowl and part lighting in bed are advantageous. Second, the dimension of furniture such as chair, bed and sofa should be ergonomically thought in terms of structure for the Elderly's convenience. Third, the bright and vivid color of furniture should be chosen from the aspect of the design, while the different kinds of blue should be avoided. Small patterns and high glossy are not recommendable, but various kinds of feelings in different shapes are suggested. Forth, the material should contribute to the fracture prevention and for that sponge, fabric and leather smoothing the surface of furniture are recommendable as the finishing treatment in a wide variety of colors.
